Fort Washington Tire & Auto Care Reviews (3)

Review: On 3-29-13 I went to Fort Washington Tire and Auto Care to get a diagnostic test done on my vehicle because my check engine light was on. I arrived at the business at approximately 7:10am. I was the first customer on the premises. When they opened for business I was the first person that they saw. I was told that the diagnostic test would take a little while because the test would only point them in the direction of what was wrong. A secondary evaluation would need to be conducted to determine the specific problem. Approximately an hour later I was told that these tests had been conducted and it had been determined that the problem was with my Knock Sensors. I was told that the cost would be approximately $675 and the repairs would take 3 hours to complete. I informed them these terms were acceptable and they could begin the work. About 15 minutes later I called the receptionist back and informed him that I had the Knock Sensors replaced recently. He stated that he would notify the mechanic. Sometime between 9:30am and 10:00am I was notified that it was not the knock sensors. I was told that it was in fact the wires that were attached to the knock sensors that was causing the problem. I was also told that the wires had been "Fixed" and instead of $675 and 3 hours for the repairs, it would only be $265 and the repairs were complete. At that time I made the payment in full for the amount of $265.39. I left the property with the vehicle and got about 5 minutes from the shop and the check engine light came on again. I returned to the shop and they took custody of the vehicle again to attempt a 3rd diagnosis of the problem. Sometime between 11:00am and 11:30am I was informed that all of the work from the original diagnosis would in fact be done at the original cost of $675. At this point I was becoming very frustrated with all the different diagnoses and all of the different prices. In addition, the fact that at some point somebody examined the vehicle signed off on it as being repaired and OK to release, When clearly it was not, was very frustrating. In addition the day was slowly passing me by. I arrived at the shop at approx. 7:10am and it was approx. 11:30am. I needed to take my blood pressure and heart medication, I needed to eat, and I needed to get ready for work. The receptionist assured me that it would not take that long because car was "broken down" already and they just needed the parts to come in. 12:30 comes and goes, still no vehicle. At this time my level of frustration is increasing because now I have missed picking up my child from school and I was also detecting that the employees in the shop could sense my frustration and it was becoming a source of amusement for them. Instead of them being professional and trying to find out what they could do to help the situation, they chose to act like this was there regular mode of operation. In fact, I personally witnessed three different vehicles (a white Honda Accord station wagon, a gold Chevy Malibu, and a blue Toyota crossover) that had repairs done to them at the shop only to return within 30 minutes because of further problems. At approx. 1:00pm I went to the receptionist to check on the status of the vehicle. At that time there was a delivery being made and he informed me that the delivery was the knock sensors that they had been waiting on and it would only be about 30 or 45 minutes before the repairs would be complete. In fact they were not knock sensors. As I stated earlier I had recently replaced the knock sensors so I know exactly what knock sensors look like. 1:30 comes and goes. I hear nothing. 2:00 comes and goes. I hear nothing. At 2:11pm I place a call to the front desk to check on the status of the vehicle. They told me again that it will be between 30 and 45 minutes before the repairs are completed. Which is the same thing the told me over an hour before. At that point my frustration level was at its highest because at that time I had been at the shop for 7 hours to complete a repair that I was told would take 3 hours, I had been told the repairs were completed and in fact there were not, I had not taken my medications and I was starting to get ill, I missed picking up my child from school, and it had also become obvious that I was not going to be able to make it to work on time. Therefore losing money because of their negligence. At approx. 2:20pm I went to the front desk and instructed them to stop working on my vehicle and give me the keys so that I could try to make it to work and not miss a full day of pay. The receptionist informed me that the car was not in running order but all of the repairs had been made and it was just a matter of reassembling the car. Sometime between 2:45 and 3:00pm I was finally given the keys to my vehicle and I paid the balance due in full which was $396.29. This was the worst service experience that I have ever had. They offered no discounts or formal apology for my experience. Only laughing mechanics as I left the shop.Desired Settlement: I would like to receive a partial refund and a written apology.
