Foster's Exotic Pet Centers Reviews (%countItem)

so I bought this beautiful & sweet boa imperator on sunday. everything was fine except we noticed a lump in his stomach and he kept looking straight up in the air (stargazing, which is a bad thing in snakes). we thought the lumps were maybe food that hadn't passed. 2 days ago she got him out and he completely flung his head backwards and upside down which is the worst sign possible. he pooped THREE times in one day and peed FOUR times in one day, which for snakes is super weird. we took him out yesterday and took the 1 picture from above of the lumps. the picture from underneath is from WEDNESDAY night. so he was a bit off yesterday and we took him out later at like 10:30 and he was literally dead.

so we went to the shop we got him, and the owner was super cocky. we brought the dead snake with us and I let my gf do almost all of the talking since I can be hot-headed. the owner kept walking away and when we first walked in he shouted, VERY LOUDLY, with a few customers "these are the people with the dead boa constrictor" making us look like some joke??? it was weird as hell. so he kept having us follow him around and brought us to the back while he fed the birds which was whatever, and my gf tried to explain that we talked to our vet and the vet said it was likely a parasite infection especially considering he had AT LEAST 2 large mites. internal lumps also happen OVER TIME and can be caused from guess what, MITES. so THE OWNER OF THE STORE pulled my dead effing snake out of the container and literally FLUNG HIM AROUND IN MY FACE and kept telling us that the lump was definitely not there and that they fed him friday and he was healthy the whole 3 months they had him. I told them that they had no bill of health and no proof that he was genuinely healthy. he was pissed about that and we kept trying to explain that our snakes are very healthy at home and don't have mites. he insisted the mites definitely didnt come from their store & that 2 mites wouldn't kill a snake. I told him about contacting a vet and he said vets are stupid so it wasn't valid. he said that he could MAYBE give me half off a snake but that he doesn't know. he brought us to the front and who i'm assuming is the shift manager started being awful to me and saying that I probably THREW the snake or that I let my cats attack it or my dog get it, so I pulled the body out and was like, here look at it for your damn self then, nothing we could've done would've made a lump like that in 4 days. he kept cutting me off and saying "enough enough enough" so I wouldn't talk. he insisted that I was probably just scared of the snake and flung him, so I explained that I have a 3.5 foot ball python and a tiny boa baby wouldn't scare me because what sense does that make...? he literally argued with me and I of course blew up and was yelling about how they literally sold me a dying snake and how I filed a dispute with my bank about it. he said I should "be grateful that he even offered half off a snake" and I said that I don't want to buy their disgusting animals. the owner ended up telling me that I was being trespassed which is bs since there was no sheriff to verify I was trespassed. i'm out $267 now and they clearly don't care about animals since they flung my dead snake in my face.

I ALSO HAVE A PICTURE OF PROOF OF AN EMPLOYEE ADMITTING THEY COHAB THEIR BALL PYTHONS. (having snakes together in an enclosure is super improper care)

Foster's Exotic Pet Centers Response • Aug 26, 2020

and her girlfriend purchased a healthy Boa from us on August 9th that had been in our care and HEALTHY for 3 months.Five days later it was dead. They called the store demanding a refund. My son asked them to bring it to the store so he could look at it . He could not see anything . He tried to reason with them suggesting another at half price. They then started F-this, F-that,F-ing- everything that came out of their filthy mouths in front of families shopping here. Thats when I got involved telling them to leave now and consider it a trespass warning. They then with help from their friends up-loaded a lot of lies on Facebook to slander our good reputation. The proof of this they all appear in a day or two. Also there is nothing wrong with co-habbing captive raised snakes of the same size fed apart. My son would never say a vet was stupid. Another LIE ! Thank you. Gary Foster. I have been in business since 1975 and our good reputation is important. Please come see for yourself.

I bought $27.21 of merchandise that included $16 worth for five fish.
The young man was 'cleaning? tanks at the time.
Three of the five died in two days. I took the fish and some sample water back (and that indeed was the policy). The older man told me it was my fault the fish died. There was something I did wrong. And my tank must be bad. The girl (maybe his granddaughter) took the fish and water bag and examined the fish confirming they weren't 'beat up.? Then, I was told the water was contaminated because the fish were dead. She then threw the bag, water, and fish away.
I explained I had already tested it and it was fine. And all of my other fish were fine and healthy. She made me read the notice taped on the counter that stated fish would be refunded at half price for 30 days and must include fish and water sample. That is what I had. She said but it must be in separate containers. I told her it said nothing about that on the policy right there.
They continued arguing with me that my tank was bad.
I also explained the fish came from two different tanks. To which I was told, then both were bad. Then they continued interrupting that I don't know how to use fish water properly, accusing me of using softeners. I ensured the level of protection in my aquariums. He proudly told me he just used tap water and he didn't have any problems, but that my water put them into shock.
He said he would give me new fish at half price, at which I said I didn't have money to buy them over; I'd only had them 48 hours. I said even *** gives a seven-day warranty during which they replace 100 percent of the cost or equal number/type of fish. He told me to go there. I said give me the fish that will be equivalent to 'his? refund. He replaced one fish that cost $1.99.
Product_Or_Service: Three ottocinclus and two neon fish

Desired Outcome

Exchange This owner should at least refund me with the other two fish, if not, with money, especially since I will have to drive all the way back there. He can't apologize for his unprofessional behavior enough.

This is a verbal reply taken by Revdex.com:

We have guarantee on fish for 30 days with half price replacement, a notice is on the counter for customers to see as they check out.
We usually ask them to bring a sample of tank water back, and we will test the water for free at our expense.
Consumer came in with a bag of cloudy water with dead fish floating in it: this water cannot be tested because of the dead fish floating around in the water, it will not give accurate results. She would need to bring a separate sample of tank water.
There was nothing wrong with the fish when they left our store, the same fish are alive here.
We use dechlorinated tap water because it is the best water for fish, some people use soft water which has minerals taken out of it. When you take a fish home, you have to acclimate them. You should float the bag of fish in the tank for about an hour to get them used to the temperature, then mix water from tank with water in the bag, and wait 20 minutes. Some people will add fish to the water immediately which will shock them.
The consumer stated the other pet stores will replace for free, however that is not our store policy.
Although we explained 50% replacement for 30 days, in good faith we offered one fish which she accepted and left.
She was not happy and stated she was going to another store.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The Fosters Exotic Pets person that responded, simply restarted what I said, except made this sound like there wasn't a problem.
To begin, the water I brought wasn't cloudy, it was fresh from my tank. The sign on the counter in question was small and was in addition to many other posted comments that the average person wouldn't take time to read--especially since the bags of purchased fish are laid on top of them at said counter.
Next, their aquarium water has a lot of dead fish, so how is it they have accurate results when supposedly testing theirs? In addition, the girl was going to use a test method, for my water, that consists of a litmus-type stick. These results are not the most accurate way to test water. Using a master test kit that includes testing solutions and test tubes is far more accurate.
Then, as I said previously, there was a man "cleaning " the tanks when I originally went into the store to purchase the fish. Looking into the large trash can of dirty water, I saw that there were live fish in it as well as the many dead plus the siphoned tank sludge. Talk about shock to fish. The cleaning man said it'd be okay. They get sucked up into a siphon and poured into that can with water and sludge from various aquariums! Then, and then, those live fish are put back into their tanks.
Also, this man and the girl I encountered, when bringing back my fish, were extremely rude. This is absolutely no way to run a business. The old saying about the customer being right creates a good rapport and repeat customers.
I am very familiar with the correct way to acclimate fish into a different aquarium, allowing fish time to adjust to the tank water and temperature. I know it is best to leave the tank dark to allow fish to feel safer when removing them from the plastic bag in which they come. I also am very aware to keep levels of ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, and pH in check to ensure the proper health of my fish. I wouldn't use softener since water harness plays a factor in fish life span. I have fish over five years old--so I am clearly doing something right.

Foster's Exotic Pet Centers Response • Mar 09, 2020

This is a verbal reply taken by Revdex.com:

The tap water we use is all from the same place, the Florida aquifer. We advised Revdex.com to correct our original verbal response about soft water; soft water has all the minerals taken out, opposite of tap water. We and other suppliers use dechlorinated tap water, the best kind of water for fish. Soft water would shock the fish. She claimed to have used ammonia test strips, however that is only for new tank cycling. The nitrates and nitrites are also tested in our kit that tests for everything else including pH.
In reference to the "siphoning" that does not go on here at the store.
We also recommend regular 25% water change with dechlorinated tap water and good tank cycling to maintain the tanks.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
This business has an excuse for everything. It's however he wants to call it, to remove his dirty water (dead fish and sludge) from his tanks. Siphon, cup, vacuum doesn't matter. The point is that there are dead fish in each aquarium.
Also, I reiterate, some fish in the trash can of dirty water from the tanks (with sludge and dead fish) are alive. Those fish are either dumped down the drain or put back into the tanks (now THAT is shock). He uses those same tanks to test his water? Those tanks all have dead fish. But my sample of water having his dead (less than 48 hour) fish isn't acceptable? The water was not cloudy, that is absolutely a lie.
Again, he brings up softeners, again, I don't use water softeners.
My test kit includes an ammonia level check. Ammonia can occur whenever a tank cycles--at any point of a tank's lifespan. Mine is a Master Kit, that checks the aquarium, includes pH, nitrate, nitrate, and ammonia tests. At certain levels hese conditions are all deadly for fish. I've been told, by professional fish experts, those litmus paper-type test strips vary in accuracy and aren't the best to use (but it's easy to be lazy and dunk a strip in the water though).
As I said my fish have longevity. His fish come from who knows where and are delivered regularly to account for dead and purchased fish depletion. I'd say he doesn't have fish that have been there for five years, but I am sure he has some grand example of one fish.
Obviously, replacing my fish or money is too hard for him.
