Foust Builders Reviews (1)

Review: We signed a contract with [redacted] of Foust Builders to complete the following scope of work: Remove old compost bin fencing and posts Haul away old fencing or prep for trash pick up Build new compost structure, with 3 walls, anchored on 4- 4x4 posts Repoint the house and garage, as needed Reinforce sides of concrete steps to prevent sagging and cracking[redacted] brought up the repointing and sold us on the idea, since he represented himself as "Specializing in all phases of Masonry", and we expected professional level work. We were not planning on having the house and garage repointed previously. We were extremely unsatisfied with the work for the following reasons: 4x4 posts are wobbly, because they're not deep enough in the ground; they will need to be dug up and re-installed so the structure doesn't fall down. [redacted] built the fencing himself instead of buying panels, and the pointy sides of the screws stick out, creating a safety hazard; this will need to be re-done as well (see photo). He used 1/2 inch sticks to hold the fence together, which will not be strong enough in the long run. The structure will have to be re-done, as it will be much more problematic when it falls apart, and full of compost and leaves. Missed many areas that needed repointing, including an entire garage wall (see photo). Left mortar on the bricks while re-pointing, which looks very sloppy (see photo). This would have been very easy to take care of while the mortar was wet. Did not remove one of the panels from the old structure (see photo). Hid old fencing panels behind garage, instead of disposing of them. I didn't find them until he was gone (see photo). Did not wipe off mortar drips and did not smooth out some of the mortar, which looks very sloppy (see photo). This would have been very easy to take care of while the mortar was wet. Did not use drop clothes, and did not clean up some of the mortar that dripped on the ground (see photo). Dripped all over my stacks of tiles, and I had to spend a lot of time cleaning them up. The concrete steps to the back porch lacked support and were starting to crack. [redacted] told me he would take out the old, loose, crumbling bricks that were supporting the steps on either side, cut new bricks to size, to support the steps on both sides, and mortar them in. I came down while he was doing this, and he was just covering the old, loose bricks with mortar on the outside surface. This does not solve the problem, and now the problem is masked, so it will be more difficult to monitor and solve. (He said he was trying to get the mortar in as deep as he could, but I have no way of verifying this and considering all the other issues described here, we are skeptical.) He'd already done most of it when I saw this, and now it's covered up with mortar on the outside, so it will be difficult to rectify the situation.Desired Settlement: I would like [redacted] to either remedy the issues in this complaint, or give us a full refund, so we can hire someone else to do so.
