Fraley's Auto Service Reviews (3)

Seventeen years ago I turned my back on the valley and moved to the mountains. After being here for about a year, I started to have a problem with my truck. I thought it was serious and asked a couple of friends about a mechanic. I am knoweldgeable about vehicles, but when it got so you can't see the ground when you open the hood, I quit. One of them suggested Fraley's. I took my truck there and what I thought was going to be an expensive item turned out to be something fairly simple(ah technology). Over the years I have taken my vehicles to [redacted] and have always gotten a fair, honest and straight deal. His driver has dragged me out of a ditch I slid into on a mud covered road in[redacted]. Coming more forward, my wife's vehicle with over 150k miles on the original brakes was brought into the shop for a brake job. I anticipated about $250 per axle. The wife and I went to a nearby resturant for breakfast and as we were done my cell phone rang. It was [redacted]'s wife [redacted] advising that we should come back to the shop as they had something we should see on the car. We were just leaving and anticipating the worst. When we got there [redacted] showed me the rear shoes on the car. They had almost 1/2 inch of pad still on them. Then we looked at the front pads and they were about the same. [redacted] said that we did not need a brake job, but because they had checked the front brakes, she felt the rotors should be turned. So I walked out of the shop with a $200 bill instead of a $500 bill. To me this is the reason I will keep going back the them. He is fair, truthful and above all Honest. I could have left there with a brake job and a $500 bill and never known the difference. I couldn't ask for a better mechanic. They are good people.
If you want tell them you read [redacted] review, probably won't get a price break or help me, but it will make them feel good.

Review: Recently called this company to unlock my car when I locked my keys in it. Their representative destroyed the paint all the way down to the fiberglass about 2 inches by the drivers side window attempting to unlock the car.

I was not upset at the time and expected them to simply fix it. They were nice enough to wave the ~47$ charge for unlocking the car. As they should since they damaged it. Over a period of 2 days I was trying to get ahold of them to get this repaired. Finally I was given the name of a bodywork person by the secretary there. I asked if I was just to bring the car to this guy for an estimate for them to pay. She told me that no, they didnt charge me for the service and had no intent to pay for the repair. I informed her that the 47$ unlock would not equate to the 300+$ it would cost to get this repaired. She said she was going to inform the fellow who did the unlock and he would call me back.

Once he called me the tone immediately changed. He had no plans to pay for the repair from the mistake he made. In fact, he even attempted to blame the whole thing on me because I "locked my keys in the car" and therefore this was all my fault. Laughable at best and horrible business practice at worst. I informed him that if he did not think he could have done the service without damaging my car he should have either back out right there and said he didnt have the skill or tools to do it or at least stopped before he damaged the vehicle. I could have gotten someone else. His response was that if not for him I would have had to break a window and that would cost more than the repair of the paint. Unreal. I informed him that I could have called another service and that was not how you do business. His response was this would come out of his pocket as he was not insured or bonded, which he had never informed me of before or during the service.

To all this I replied that it didnt matter what his reasoning, it was a service, it was his mistake and to make it right it should be repaired by them. He then responded that since I didnt pay (because he said he would not charge me due to the damage) that he was just a "buddy who was trying to help me out" and I couldnt prove otherwise. The level of unethical business practice this individual displayed was something I have never experienced before.

All said and done I will get it repaired on my own at a bonded / insured autobody repair shop. The guy they gave me the name of is neither insured or bonded and does it out of a home shop. I was not interested in going down that road even tho the fellow seemed competent. With the acrimonious and accusatory nature the conversation took I felt this was my only option.Desired Settlement: My expectation is that they pay for the cost of the repair which I was preliminarily quoted $315.84 from an insured and bonded Autobody shop in show low AZ.

Response:

the driver offered the customer "no charge" compensation as well a reputable repair facility to have his body work done at.am not sure what more he wants us to do.our body shop is competant, he has done numerous jobs for us on our personal vehicles as well as other customersWe would like the opportunity to have this work done, before judgement has been made.thanks you [redacted]###-###-####

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

There are numerous reasons why this is not acceptable. They are as follows:- Service man should have not attempted to provide a service he either didnt have the correct tools or skills to accomplish on a $70000 vehicle.- Service man then became belligerent and lied when confronted with the expectation the reapir be paid for. Going so far as to state that he was just "a buddy trying to help me out" when clearly that was not the case. Not a professional response.- Service man did not state or claim he was not insured or bonded for his services. Yet after damaging the vehicle claimed this was the case and he would not pay for this out of pocket and had no intention of paying for the repairs.- Individual who they referred me to I went to see. He is NOT a professional shop and is in fact an individual who works out of a friends garage. While he may be skilled he is neither bonded or insured and I was not going to make this mistake twice.- I went to a professional insured shop, distinktive, and had the work done for $353.36 which is $300 less than the dealership quoted me. My expectation is that this will be reimbursed.- The $48 waived unlock fee is an expectation not a reimbursement for such damage entirely caused by the service.I have only heard good things about Fraley's and that is why I called them. However, this was not a good experience and the response from the employee was shocking to say the least. I hope this can be resolved through this process. Regards,
