Frank's Used Cars Reviews (2)

Review: I bought a used 2000 [redacted] from Frank [redacted], at Franks Used Cars. It was being sold "as is". when we were looking at the car and test driving it, I asked to take the car to my mechanic to have it checked over and he refused to let me. He told me I could have my mechanic come there to look it over, but the car was not to go to his shop. He then told me a story about another potential customer who took a car to his mechanic and returned with a long list of things that was wrong with the car, so he didn't let people take the cars to be checked over by their own mechanics. So we had to go on faith that he was selling me a good car.

A few days after I purchased the car the check engine light came on. I called Frank as soon as it came on and he told me to bring the car over and he would have his mechanic scan it to see what the problem was. The mechanic put the scanner on the car and said the 02 down sensor was bad. They replaced the sensor and a belt that was shredded. I took the car home and by the next day the check engine light was on again. I called Frank back and told him and he said he put enough money in to the car and wasn't going to help me. I had to take the car to my mechanic to have it checked and he told me the catalytic converter was bad. I also learned that the 02 down sensor only monitors the catalytic converter (which Franks mechanic should have told him when he saw it on the scanner).

My mechanic also told me the head gaskets were leaking oil and antifreeze all over the place and they needed repaired or my motor would seized up. I hadn't driven the car 300 miles at this point.

I had the mechanic make the repairs and after the bill was paid I took it to Frank and asked him to help me with the bill. I left it up to him to offer to pay at least half the bill. I also told him he didn't have to pay for the clutch and pressure plate since it wasn't bad but was told I should have it replaced since the motor was already out.

Frank told me he had to talk to his partner and would get back to me. He didn't. I finally got ahold of him 6 days later because he didn't call me back. He said his partner, [redacted], wasn't going to help me and refused to reimburse me anything towards the repairs. Frank said if I would have called him before the work was done he could have gotten me the parts at dealer cost. I told him he already told me he wasn't putting any more money in to the car, that's why I had to have someone do the work.

I understand the car was sold as-is, but he sold me a bad car that he knew wasn't right. I feel just out of conscience and good dealer practices he should help with this $2665.23 bill for repairs. I now own a $6,665.23 car that isn't worth the money.

I paid $4,000 for the car and without the repairs being done, I could not have resold the car for what I bought it for, let alone have a car to drive because the engine would have seized up.Desired Settlement: I would like for them to reimburse me for at least some, if not all of the work that was done to the car due to them selling me a car that wasn't worthy of the purchase price.

Response:

this is in response to id [redacted] has most of her facts correct in her statement and im not going to sit here and give any he said she saidcomments. Im just going to give you my facts and the facts are as follows, [redacted] did purchase a 2000 [redacted] on march 27 with 130,343 miles on it. she did sign all of the as is papers and did not purchase any kind of extened warranty. we do not allow any of our cars to be driven anywhere to have them inspected before they are purchased although we do allow the prospective buyer to bring anyone they wish to go over the vehicle in any way they wish. when she was inspecting the car prior to purchase there were two other people with her on her test drive and they had the hood up and inspected everything. it must have driven great and looked great or she would not have purchased it a few days later, then a few days after she purchased it she came back with the car because the check engine light came on and there was a noise under the hood. the car still drove just fine but we took it to the garage across the street to see if there was any issues, they found a bad oxygen senor and belt, we had them replace both items at no cost to the customer on good faith since she bought the car as is about a week later [redacted] call and said the check engine light came on. at this point I was not sure what else [redacted] expected me to do for her the car still drove great, she never said anything was leaking all over the place" the car is 14 years old with 130,000 miles on it, it is not brand new check engine lights do come on for many reasons so I declined doing anything else free of charge for[redacted].now here is where [redacted] made a poor decision by taking the car to her mechanic" after she put 451 miles on the car what no one knows until now is when this car was purchased by me I drove it approxiamatly 200 miles with no issuses I check out all of the subarus I purchase since they are known for having leaking head gaskets and valve cover gaskets. when this car got its pa state inspection I was there when it was on the lift the inspection mechanic checked out the engine and even called me over and showed me that this car was completely dry NO LEAKS AT ALL, so I did see it for myself.[redacted] got taken advantage of by her mechanicsince im not the only one that knows many subarus have head gasket issues. he got the car in his shop and just worked her over, scaring her by telling her that her car was going to seize upthen doing repairs that were not needed just like you hear about and see on tv. [redacted] should have known as soon as he said this car was leaking oil and antifreeze all over the place, the car would have smelled because when the head gaskets leak it goes right onto the exhaust, it would have left puddles of oil and antifreeze, and finally it would have overheated for sure maybe even seized upafter she put 451 miles on the car.I know this car did not have any such problems and everyone wants to blame the used car dealer, but I will assure anybody that is interested that we try to sell great cars for lower prices than any competion, we do not sell junk.in ending [redacted] bought a 2000 suburu [redacted] with 130343 miles as is on 3/27/14 for 3995.00 and on /23/14 she took the car to kreps service station with 130,794 miles and they preformed services that were not needed and charged her 2665.23 for these services, now somehow [redacted] feels that franks used cars is responseable for these repairs without even getting a second opinion. she didn't contact us until after the repairs were done when she wanted franks used cars to pay the bill. of course we were not paying a repair bill like that when we saw what they did, it did not need these repairs. and I hope she finds a new mechanic.I have enclosed copies of her paper work.

Review: I purchased a used vehicle from Franks used cars in [redacted], PA. When I bought this truck, a ford ranger extended cab pickup, white in color. It was represented as having a clean title, and no issues that needed repair or attention. I took the truck to a friend of mine to have him look it over after purchasing it. It was rusted beneath the wheel wells, excessively, and to my astonishment, the truck is not one truck but two different trucks bolted together behind the cab. The frame is two separate vehicles and they were pieced together to make one truck. The truck was also inspected by the dealership right before the sale. My children have been riding in this truck. It is dangerous, and illegal completely. Now I purchased a six thousand dollar vehicle that I can't drive because it was represented as a good truck. I can't even sell it to get my money back because it's illegal. It is utterly ridiculous that a car dealership would sell a truck in this condition and let the consumer think that it was ok. I feel completely violated and all of my savings is gone now. I don't see the difference between this and just plain out robbing me of six thousand dollars. It just blows my mind that a car lot can do these types of things and stay in business. Thank you for your time and consideration.Desired Settlement: I would like a complete refund of not only the money I bought the truck for but the title and registration fees, insurance for the last three months that I paid for a vehicle that I can't drive, and gas money for the multiple trips that I have to take and have taken to [redacted] to settle the matter. Starting from the day I drove from [redacted] to [redacted] to purchase the truck. I also want reimbursed for the money that I If the matter can't be settled this way then I will file a civil suit and request more than this. The civil suit will include other fees such as my lawyer fees, filing fees, time that I've taken of work because of this issue, and any other fees that I incur while settling this matter in court.
