Fred H. Straub, Incorporated

Review: I purchased from Straub 10/20/05 14K earrings with hinges that broke several times within the first year. Returned them and they were fixed at no charge. After breaking about the fifth or sixth time I put them at the bottom of a drawer and forgot about them until July 2014. I returned to Straub to ask what could be done to correct the ongoing problem I had had with them and the salesman suggested soldering posts to them. I asked how much it would cost. He said "minimal" and he would call with a price before doing it. I reiterated that I wanted a phone call with a price before doing anything.

A few weeks later I got a call saying they were ready to be picked up. When I went to pick them up I was told the cost was $64 and some cents. I was in total disbelief. I paid $52 for the earrings. How could this possibly cost more than the earrings themselves. I was told because it was 14K gold. I told the salesman I didn't ask for 14K gold posts and no one called as promised to tell me what it would cost. He immediately said he'd charge me just half the cost. I had just come from having a tooth extracted at the dentist and was not able to think clearly so I gave him my credit card and he charged me $32.

Ever since this transaction 2 days ago I have been sorry I didn't leave the earrings with Straub and file a complaint. I am alerting [redacted] of my concern. I have no way of even knowing whether my original purchase from them was actually 14K gold and certainly have no way of knowing whether these little posts are actually 14K gold. I am sincerely doubting the integrity of this transaction.Desired Settlement: and proof that the posts are really 14K gold.
