Fredericksburg Motor Sports Reviews (2)

We have spoken to Mr***. We understand that he has a valid complaint but we are going step by step with Honda Warranty department to resolve this issue. We have been keeping him updated on what is going on

Review: I took my 1998 [redacted] dirt bike for analysis and repair. After a lenghty time period of a month of me calling about the situation of my bike. I finally got a scenario as to what was wrong and required to repair the bike. All in all a total rebuild of my engine and $1578 to have my bike back in normal operating condition. I'm a DOD employee works overseas. I explained to them that I was leaving to go back to work in Japan soon. At this time it had been 2 months of waiting for time for a technician to diagnose the bike and a required parts list. They contacted me, and explained what was needed for repair. At that time thet asked me for a deposit of half the total bill for parts. I explained to them I was able to pay $600 at that particular moment and once the bike was finished would pay the difference of 978. During that time we were waiting for parts to arrive and time to put the bike back together (2 weeks.) 2 days before the bike was supposed to be finished they called me and told me they had received some wrong parts and that they had to send them back and wait for new ones. The timeline they quoted me was not suitable because I would be back in Japan. They told me they would put a next day air on the parts. When they notified me the bike was ready I payed the difference and went to pick it up. They gave me a reciept I verified the bike was starting I loaded the bike and took it home. Once home I went for a test ride, maybe 60 yards, and the chain popped off and cracked the bottom case of my engine. I called them and explained, they told me to bring it back. The next day I did just that, I called them a few days later from Japan. They told me they never had to touch the chain, and that it was not their fault that it popped off. I seen that the chain tensioners were never tensioned back. They then told me they have a guy that could weld it maybe. I told them that I would'nt be able to resell it with a welded motor case and that it needed to be replaced. They said they were not paying.Desired Settlement: I just want my engine case not cracked or welded and in regular operating condition. I payed $1578 for a rebuild, in order to rebuild a engine I know you have remove or at the least un tension the chain. It's not my fault that it popped off and caused other damage. Whom ever put it back together again should of made sure that it was correct. I just want a new case installed, and that my bike is in normal operating condition.

To whom it may concern:

We have had several conversations with Mr. [redacted] about his 1998 [redacted] dirt bike. There were many things wrong with this motorcycle. The customer chose to have the engine rebuilt. It is understandable asking us to do this as it is the most difficult repair for one to do. We did as Mr. [redacted] requested. His sprockets are worn, his fork seals are leaking, his brake lever is snapped in half, and his front brakes are worn.

When you are dealing with dirt bike owners they request repairs that they cannot accomplish themselves. When we rebuilt his engine, we never touched his chain. The engine was rebuilt and returned to Mr. [redacted]. Upon returning the motorcycle to our shop, we have noted that the case where the front sprocket is located has wear marks where the chain had come loose and scraped the casing before it came completely off and cracked the case.

We have offered for the pay for the weld to repair his case. We have asked that he pay for the parts (gaskets) to put the motorcycle back together. This is purely out of good will. Mr. [redacted]'s insistence on replace the entire engine is unrealistic. Secondly, it does make practical sense to replace the engine when the case can be welded. It will not reduce the performance or durability of the motorcycle.

Furthermore, this is a motocross motorcycle. It is the rider's responsibility to remove any accumulated dirt, to check the tire pressure, check spoke tension and make sure the rim locks are secure. Check to make sure the sprocket bolts and nuts are secure. Clean the sides of the drive chain, lubricate and adjust the chain as necessary. This is maintenance that is required each time before you get on the motorcycle. Does everyone follow these instructions? No. Is there a penalty for not following these instructions? Absolutely. Mr. [redacted] now has a scarred and cracked case because of worn sprockets and not checking the play in his chain prior to riding his motorcycle. Race motorcycles and off-road motorcycles require vigilant care because of their capabilities off road.

Sincerely,

[redacted], General Manager

[A default letter is provided here which indicates your acceptance of the business's offer. If you wish, you may update it before sending it.]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], I found a few things that were not correct, or even joint to the issue on hand. I contacted and spoke with the general manager for the first time ([redacted]) along with her husband. Her husband explained to me in detail about how welding the engine case would not affect the performance of the motor. I explained to him that would be satisfactory to me. I'm waiting now to here back from them, they are supposed to be looking at my front and rear sprockets. I explained to them that they were new, after them noting in their response that they were worn. I will wait for the business to perform these actions of welding the engine case and verifying that my sprockets are new and am not in need of newer ones. When, and if these actions are completed, I will consider this complaint resolved. If the company does not perform as promised I can get back to you at: [email protected].
