On the day of the consultation and tasting the bride showed me a picture of the cake she wantedI explained to her that the color of the cake in the picture was unattainablePictures can be Photoshopped and highlighted and unable to be re-created using icing mediums available in the real world
I told her I could use a taupe colored fondant and a spray on shimmer but that is as close to the color in the magazine as I could getI also gave her the option of shiny silver or shiny gold both of which she turned down and opted for taupe fondant with the shimmerThe color in the picture was a shiny highlighted taupe/pewter color that you cannot make with fondant and icing The day of the wedding the planner helped me set up the cake and put the ribbon and flowers on as requested by the brideDuring this minute time period the planner never mentioned the color being incorrect On the Monday after the wedding I received a phone call from *** stating she was unhappy with the color of the top of her cakeShe told me the cake tasted wonderful and she loved the bottom tier but was unhappy with the color of the top two teirs I reminded her that during the consultation she was told that the color would not be identical to the pictureShe remembered us talking about that but was still unhappy After giving it some thought I decided to refund her a small portion of just the top two teirs, not because I felt it was necessary but to try to make her happy Before I could send a check, she went on social media and left an incredibly bad review about my business stating that she would not trust me to even make a cupcakeAfter reading this review, I called the wedding planner and told the planner to relay the message that I would now not refund a dime Appearently the wedding planner did not relay the message and as time went by I received another phone call from *** wanting to know where her refund was I had upgraded to an iPhone and anyone who has gone through the pain of transferring information from one phone to the next knows that sometimes text messages and other information are lost When my employee called to inform me *** had called the shop wanting her refund I told my employee to tell her that I had lost the information and to please give it to my employee again and after the holidays I would send her refund As far as I know it is the second week in December and the holidays are not overI have reluctantly put a check in the mail for her today to close this matterAs far as I am concerened this is over.
