Dear [redacted],I have reviewed [redacted]'s complaint against the French Valley Ranch. There are several inaccurate statements made by Miss [redacted].1. Purchase price was $1500.00 for her pet only with neuter agreement puppy. She elected to have the puppy flown to her since she didn't want...

to drive that distance. $400.00 was for the flight costs including a puppy crate that she kept.2. [redacted] agreed to purchase this puppy with our 1 year health guarantee that would provide a replacement puppy only, if the puppy originally purchased died from a congenital defect or if she had vet bills that were at least double the purchase price in an effort to save the puppy. The guarantee, which she agreed to at the time of purchase, would never cover any vet bills, or offer money back. Only a replacement puppy if original one died from the defect or it was returned.A testicle that is not descended is a common, non-life threatening condition that just requires an extra small incision at the time of the neuter to remove it. My vet compares it to a spay as the incision enters the abdominal wall. My vet charges an extra $10.00 over a regular neuter for this procedure. Same price as a spay. It is a very common, routine procedure that has never required an ultra sound as it is easily located after an incision is made, or by palpating the area after puppy is under anesthesia.3. Miss [redacted] stated that she was never given the vet information. She was given the flight health certificate which was signed by the vet here. It had all the vet's contact information on the certificate. This is required to fly any animal by the airlines and included in the flight paperwork that was sent along with the puppy.4. When Miss [redacted] contacted me about the undescended testicle, and told me what her vet wanted to charge, I told her that the cost was about 10 times the cost it was to have it done in Montana at our vet. I told detailed all the charges on the estimate that were excessive or unnecessary. Having been a vet tech for several years and assisting on these surgeries many, many times, I have great knowledge about what is necessary and what are excessive charges and costs.5. I started researching her area of New York for a more reasonable cost option. I found the ASPCA mobile vet clinic that comes into her area several times a month. They do regular and puppies with [redacted]'s condition for a cost of $125.00. It states right on their website that they do animals with this condition.  Low income people quality for a $5.00 fee or free with their assistance paperwork. I sent Miss [redacted] the link to review and set up the procedure. 6. I contacted Miss [redacted] a few weeks after I gave her all the information to get the procedure set up to see if she had the surgery completed. My daughter was at that time flying into her area. She was going to exam [redacted] if she didn't have the surgery completed already and offer to have him fly back with her (it's only $150.00 to have a pet fly with you verses $400.00 if they fly alone), to have the surgery done at one of our clinics and fly him back after he was healed. My daughter scheduled extra time in New York to meet with her. Miss [redacted] never bothered to respond and that opportunity was then missed.7. I have spent a lot of time and effort working with Miss [redacted] to get this routine surgery completed at a reasonable cost. I found good alternative options for her in her area and flying him to our clinic, that were less than the cost of her vet's regular neuter cost. She stated she wanted her vet to do the surgery. I responded if she wanted her vet to do this surgery with all his extra costs, it was up to her and the surgery cost was her responsibility either way. Her last response to me was that she reported our ranch to the Revdex.com in order to make us give her money back. 8. [redacted]'s condition is easily resolved, not life threatening and not covered in our guarantee. It won't effect his quality of life. It is just a matter of an extra few minutes in surgery when he is there anyway to get neutered as agreed in the original purchase of the puppy. It's a matter of $10.00 in Montana with our vet. Thank you!Tami A[redacted]French Valley Ranch

The French Valley Ranch sold us an adult dog and after 2 weeks when the dog would not eat or drink (due to stress from being removed from her home of four years) we returned the dog and were never given a refund even after being told we would receive one. After this incident, the owner, [redacted], then changed her website to state that "no refunds" were given on adult dogs. The owner now has the dog and our money.

Review: My son and I purchased a four-year-old Minature Schnauser from this business on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. The owner, [redacted], told us that since it was a mature dog it could take up to two weeks for it to adjust to her new surroundings, after 5 days the dog was clearly not adjusting well to her new home, we were very concerned for the dogs health because she was not eating or drinking and losing a lot of weight, causing stress to both my son and I. After speaking with [redacted], we agreed to wait the two weeks she suggested, but after the 10 days it was obvious that the dog was still distressed, so we made arrangements to return the dog to [redacted] on her next dental appointment in [redacted]. [redacted] agreed to take her back, and when she picked her up on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, she said she would mail us a refund check. Over the next couple of months, [redacted] began making excuses about refunding the 250.00 fee. She talked about vet bills and every other excuse to not refund the money, she now has the dog and our money. She also said she would refund the money once the dog was resold, but then she was only selling this dog with another dog, as a pair, so you have to buy both for 500.00. This dog has only known one owner for four years and is not used to being on her own, so it only makes sense that these dogs be sold in pairs, unfortunately, we did not know this from the start, and we had to inform the owner of this also. After my son filed the original complaint with the Revdex.com on May 25, 2013, [redacted] has since changed her web site to state that now there are no refunds for adult dogs (prior to May 25, 2013 that only applied to puppies), and she is now willing to sell the adult dogs separately for 275.00 or two for 500.00. My son made a copy of the web site prior to May 25, 2013 to show the changes that [redacted] has made for her convenience.Desired Settlement: Refund entire purchase price of $250.00.

Response:

Hi Joel,

This is concerning case # 9556639. All correspondence concerning the adoption of the Miniature Schnauzer was done with [redacted] for her personal dog and she lives alone. [redacted], [redacted]'s son became involved later in the correspondence only to give his mother a ride to pick up the dog.The adoption fee was $250.00 which went to the vet to help in the cost of the spay, teeth cleaning dental and current vaccinations including rabies. This money went to the vet in order to have her ready for her new home. There was no profit to me. [redacted] was clear on adoption fees being non-refundable, but she it could be used towards a different dog if she didn't work out for her. [redacted] handed me the $250.00 out of her wallet when she picked out and took possesion of [redacted]. [redacted] never provided any of the money nor did he make any decision on the adoption.I told [redacted] from the beginning it would take at least 2 weeks minimum (and sometimes a little longer) for [redacted] to become adjusted to her new surroundings. She called after only five days and said she wanted to return [redacted] or would have to take her to the Humane Society as [redacted] made little bark noises in her crate at night (with all the new sounds she heard) and [redacted] was so worried she would disturb her neighbors in her condo that [redacted]'s blood pressure went up.I agreed to drive up had retrieve [redacted] rather than her going to the Humane Society.A few weeks after I drove up and got [redacted], (130 miles round trip each time we met), [redacted] started harassing me to send his mother's adoption fee back.I explained that the adoption fee went for the vet fees and not to me, so there was no money to refund and his mother was clear on that before getting the dog. I re-explained it after she started asking for the adoption fee back after her son insisted she do so.[redacted] has been harassing me for several months now, and now he made up this story to report me to the Revdex.com, clearly and simply to harass me more. All this is clear in the e-mails back and forth between [redacted] and me and [redacted], her son, only became involved to give his mother a ride to meet. He wasn't present when the dog was returned. If you need any more.

Please let me know. Thanks!

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 9609482, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Dear Revdex.com,

My son and I have addressed all of these issues in both his

original complaint and in my follow-up complaint regarding the purchase of this

dog from French Valley Ranch and Ms. [redacted], but, just to be clear, let me

again state our position:

1.

My son was directly involved with the purchase

of this dog from day one, it was a joint purchase because I knew I would not be

able to take care of it on a full time basis. Yes, I did pay Ms. [redacted]

“from my wallet” but my son paid his half directly to me. My son was the one

who made arrangements with Ms. [redacted] for the initial meeting in Ronan and

he also specifically picked out “Heidi” from the other dogs that day.

2.

The fact that Ms. [redacted] has to pay vet costs

to have the dogs ready for sell is part of doing business, and has no direct

impact on the buyer.

3.

There was never any verbal or written agreement

regarding refunding the adoption fee. As I mentioned in my complaint, Ms.

[redacted] conveniently reworded her website to now read “no refunds on puppies

or adult dogs” after this incident took place. Prior to the incident it only

stated “no refunds on puppies”…which we have a record of.

4.

After the first 5 days, when the dog was not

eating or drinking, I called Ms. [redacted] because of our concern for the dog,

and the stress it was causing my son and I. We agreed to wait another 10 days

because Ms. [redacted] would be coming back to Ronan for another dental

appointment (and not making special trip as she claims) and we would see if the

situation got better, it did not. It was obvious that the dog was also under

great stress from being separated from the home it had grown up at during the

past 4 years.

5.

When I went to return the dog to Ms. [redacted],

(during her next dental appt) she said she would be in touch with our refund,

we never heard from her again. It was only after weeks and then months of my

son and I sending emails and making phone calls did Ms. [redacted] respond. At

one point she even asked me “what I thought was a reasonable refund amount”,

and I told her “half would be agreeable”, and then she stopped communicating

again.

6.

My son has never “harassed” Ms. [redacted], he

only called and emailed her to try and resolve the situation.

7.

This story is obviously not made up, this is

clear by the email traffic and the changes Ms. [redacted] made to her website to

cover herself.

8.

Ms. [redacted] still has the dog and our money.

Respectfully,
