Fresh Start Moving Reviews (%countItem)

This company should be called Inept, not Adept ,Moving and Storage. They were all about customer service until they had a signed contract, then they disappeared, it took 3-4 phone calls to ever get a response. The quoted price nearly doubled while they were packing the truck. They charged exorbitant prices for a "crate" which was nothing more than cardboard loosely wrapped around the item. They damaged or totally destroyed nearly every valuable antique piece of furniture I own. Several ladders and pieces of exercise equipment were never delivered. It took nearly 2 months for them to return a phone call about the damaged and missing items. I believe
their website for submitting claims is deliberated designed to discourage claims. I also believe the damage was intentional because I did not tip the crew. This was the first time I had ever hired movers and I did not know tipping was required and had no cash on me. If you value your property and time do not use Inept Moving and Storage.

Fresh Start Moving/Adept Moving. This is a complaint about holding goods for lien.
Initial communication started via text in late April. I decided use this company called Fresh Start Moving based out of Sarasota Florida mostly because the person I spoke with, Mr. Brian H., told me it was a family owned business and that his uncle owned it and is a veteran. I am a veteran as well, and I'm always in support of family owned businesses. This move was on Tuesday, June 2 from Asheville NC to Chattanooga TN. Mr. H. location is in Norcross Georgia. I think the warehouse is there. I have a copy of the invoice with the estimated cubic feet and total estimated cost of this move. It is a binding not-to-exceed estimate based on cubic feet. To my knowledge, a true Binding Not-To-Exceed estimate is the most favorable for consumers because it means that even if actual weight is more than the original written estimate, the customer only pays the amount of the estimate. This move was a nightmare from beginning to end. I'm not going to elaborate on the little things that happened such as the movers being very slow and leaving my apartment in Asheville to go to walmart because one of them was having an asthma attack supposedly. I am sending in this complaint for several reasons. One is that the estimated cubic feet amount on the invoice was 567 ft.³ with a total of $1958 on the invoice. I sent Mr. H. pictures and we talked for a good hour on the telephone about all of my furniture and chairs and tables that I had that needed to be included. I sent him pictures of all of that as well. We talked about number of boxes. He's made the estimation, and that is his job. It's his job to estimate properly based on discussions with customers. How he could be so far off on the invoice of the cost and cubic feet estimate is a mystery to me. I believe he underestimated the cubic feet and cost on purpose so his movers would do exactly what they did which is tell me I owe them more money and hold me for ransom until they got it. I believe that is illegal and should justify a claim for extortion. After the movers finished loading my items in the truck, one of the movers told me I was at almost almost at 1300 ft.³ but he would only charge me for having 900 ft.³ at a rate of 3.50 per cubic foot over 567. I don't know how he calculated the new total but the final bill was $3182 vs. $1958. That is $1224 more than the estimated amount from Mr. H. I had to withdraw $2707 and give it to him because he said he would not deliver until he had the money. There was nowhere open that I could get a money order so my only alternative was cash. By this time it was 5:30 PM, and we still couldn't leave until the movers were finished at 6 PM. It was supposed to be a same-day move, and we both left Asheville at the same time (6PM) enroute to TN. I found a Walmart to get cash out of the ATM. Mr. H. told me that a personal check would be the form of payment used upon the movers' arrival. Not true. I'm sending this complaint also because the company won't let me file a claim for damaged furniture. I took pictures and informed Mr. H. I wanted to file a claim but to no avail. Also, the movers didn't get to TN until 1:30 AM. It is 3 1/2 hours by car. They knew they wouldn't be able to deliver my items at nighttime and got a hotel; I slept on the floor in my empty apartment. The movers left with my step ladder. I called the mover and he said he had it and would get the company to get it back to me. the ladder was not in a box. I believe they took it purposely.

Desired Outcome

I expect a refund for all wrongful charges.

This company has a DBA Fresh Start Moving and is a sister company to Smooth Movers LLC.

Please do your research and work with a reputable company. I thought I could trust my gut on this one since I've moved cross country before but I was taken for a ride.

Things that went wrong high level. More below.

1. They charged by Cubic Feet not Weight. Never go by volume always go by weight.

2. They did not provide an inventory list on move day and did not even number things until I asked them to and did so at their warehouse. I never received a full inventory list.

3. They changed their estimate after loading the truck.

4. They severely damaged multiple furniture items because they didn't handle them with basic care

5. They do not know how to load a truck properly resulting in many damaged boxes. Wardrobe boxes which should have been in good condition were completely crushed and multiple medium boxes were busted at the seam.

6. They tried to come a day early when I made it clear I needed the move to happen on Sunday 4/26

I have spent the past two weeks researching this company and only wish I had done more diligence about them before using them for a long distance move. Tim I. is the owner of this company and if you search for other moving companies such as Zip-to-Zip moving, Adept Moving and Storage, Fresh Start Moving, Cross Country Moving, you'll see similar issues. These are all companies he's been associated with.

My final pre-move estimate from them was $6,480 which I felt was pretty accurate after I inventoried every item in the house and worked with their guy Brian to validate. This was based off of 1,154 cubic feet charged at $4.65 per cubic foot plus shuttle service. On the day of the move the movers loaded their 26 foot truck over halfway before telling me around 4 PM that the amount of stuff I had would not all fit on the truck. Additionally, the movers were not experienced and it was apparent by how half-*** they loaded the truck and broke things before even getting them on the truck. Their truck holds approximately 2,200 cubic feet if fully and properly loaded. I had an additional approximate 200 cubic feet of bins and furniture in a storage unit. I was advised to call Taylor I. the manager to update the estimate and charges and he "graciously" offered to cap the cubic feet at 2,400 with a revised final estimate of $10,760. Soon after agreeing to this the truck was loaded and they took things back to their warehouse and then came out again to pick up the remaining things from storage. In terms of agreeing to the new charges I had zero recourse because we were flying out early the next morning I had a newborn, 3 year old, wife, and two elderly in-laws to get on a plane and fly to our new home. Fast forward 11 days later and our stuff arrives on a 26 foot Penske Truck. Everything fit into the truck and that truck holds 1700 cubic feet as confirmed by Penske's website. This means they overcharged me by 700 cubic feet at $4.65 or $3,255. Additionally, multiple furniture items were severely damaged. We're not talking about simple scuffs. They didn't disassemble the dining room table legs and one was lost and two others were damaged and will require a professional wood worker to fix, a hutch had three tempered glass shelves that were not separately wrapped and they shattered, there were two large gouges in a coffee table, an end table was broken, and they lost several pieces to a King Size Bed frame.I followed up multiple times with Taylor and with Brian with no luck and Tim the owner wouldn't speak to me by phone preferring to funnel things through Taylor

This company refuses to refund me my money. They are liars and scammers. *** called me a thousand times a day with lies for business.
On February 4, 2020. The company by the name Fresh Start Moving took a deposit from me in the amount of $389.38 to move me. After processing this payment the name on my credit card were Adept Moving and Storge LLC. I'm like wow. This company called me the day of service saying they would be 2 hours behind and that they will be keep my belongings 2 nights. They also stated that they can only take cash or money order at the time of delivery before removing my belongings off their truck. So I canceled the service. It didn't only throw up a red flag but none of this was said prior to booking them. Chris C. said that I can use my card and also I will get delivered the same day.

Desired Outcome

I spoke with Chris C. on March 24, 2020. He said he thought I had received my refund already according to Taylor. He said that he would have Taylor to call me the next morning. I last contact this company on March 25, 2020 after not hearing from Taylor. I called Chris back. Then shortly after speaking with Taylor called which I'm assuming is the owner. Taylor, however refuses to return my refund. By saying I told you that you wouldn't get a refund and that we will credit you for future moves.

The shipping documents were falsified causing us to pay almost double for the shipment of the furniture.
The shipping documents stated that we had 1,400 CF of furniture when we only had approximately 880CF. The price that was negotiated was based on the cubic feet of furniture.
The shipment was extremely late over what was agreed, by over a month.
Thousands of dollars in damage to furniture.

Desired Outcome

I want all the additional money paid back along with damages to my furniture. $3,500.

I would not recommend this company to anyone. I am forced to give it a one star rating, but really it should be 0 stars. I agree with the other complaint about Brian and Taylor being difficult to get once complaints started, which was the day of pick up. . Adept moved my daughter from Knoxville Tennessee to home in Virginia in June. Our initial fee also was greatly increased on the day of pick up. We were told we had to pay with a cashier's check, which meant going out to find a place to get one late in the afternoon. We waited weeks to get the furniture and was never given a specific day of delivery. Apparently it sat in a warehouse in Georgia waiting for another pick up coming North. Our stuff did not fill an entire truck. Finally one evening late in June, we were notified that the furniture would be delivered but I needed to pay an additional amount in cash to the driver before the furniture would be unloaded. I went to the bank and got the money. One worker unloaded while the other wandered about. My husband and brother-in-law ended up moving a great deal of furniture into the apartment. There were a number of badly dented boxes and broken items, but the biggest issue was a missing mattress. We got the box spring and the bed frame but not the mattress. I began calling Taylor immediately and received no response from him, but rather was told to file a complaint, which I did repeatedly with Moving Claims. I ended up having to purchase a mattress because it is difficult to sleep without one and my daughter had been sleeping on an air mattress for weeks while waiting for her furniture to be delivered. The complaints company offer initially $70, then $100, apparently this number is based upon a weight of a mattress. They did not feel they were responsible for the entire replacement. At my last refusal of their offer, the Moving Claims company indicated it would no longer deal with me. I have been complaining and getting nowhere so I decided to post with the Revdex.com. We have never used a moving company before and we will not ever do it again. Despite the fact we are older and cannot carry or lift furniture, we will never be taken advantage again of a company that promised this move would be flawless. I was told this company is a family owned company and the family is military. All of which sold me, hook, line and sinker. I was taken advantage of and am so disappointed in a company that does not value their word or provide the service that was supposedly to be delivered. I have indeed learned a lesson.

Damage & non response to calls. Storage not climate controlled.
I hired this company for a move from NC to AL. They arrived at 8:30 at night to load. Took them until 1:30 am. I have 33 damaged or broken items from what I have unboxed. I paid a deposit in May for a June 27th pick up date. Got changed to 28th. Could not reach them by phone or email to confirm pickup date until I filed complaints with Gov agencies. Everything I was told by the initial person Chris proved to not be true. I attempted numerous times to make contact for delivery before my 30 day storage expired. No response. After the 30 days, I reached someone. Told me I had to pay a prorated month of over $700 plus balance I'd move to get my stuff. I asked for itemized invoice-never got it. Finally got a delivery to AL. Driver arrived at 11 pm in a old truck without a ramp. Would not remove my stuff until I paid the balance. Tried to call owner to discuss balance due. He would not answer. Paid so I could have my things. The move ended up costing over $7K which was not quoted. The excuse for not responding to voice msgs & emails-summer was their busy season. I understood from initial contact $3500 Ins was included in price & he implied I didn't need additional coverage. I haven't even tried to verify If that is true. Assumed not.

Desired Outcome

I would like a refund of the additional storage fee collected as their lack of response made me exceed 30 days.

Worst company ever !! Please never ever use this company for your moving purposes. I did a move with them from Charlotte, NC to Tampa, FL in July 2019. Following are the list of issues that happened:
1. They rope you in with a low quote - We ended up paying around $6000 though we were initially quoted for almost half the amount (I'm ok with it, since I did have a lot of things to move)
2. Most of my valuable items were damaged - a 60 inch tv costing around $1000, edges scratched/damaged/broken for dresser, bed, water filter completed damaged, canvas photo all teared up. Almost close to $3000 were lost in damages
3. The insurance they give is a scam. They didnt pay us a dime for the claim we filed
4. The folks who packed our stuff in Charlotte did an absolute bad job. They didnt pack the screws/nuts/bolts for our furniture and it was missing when we reached Tampa. They were unable to assemble our beds or dressers. I had a 3 month old baby and I had to go with them to furniture shop/home depo looking for the hardware to get the furniture fixed. Imagine the stress of the move along with these issues !! The folks in Tampa were not able to catch hold of the folks in Charlotte to ask them where they missed our stuff to track it.
4. The folks in Tampa did a terrible job assembling our beds. all of them are missing some screws and are crooked and I dont know when it is going to break down.

I dont have the means to hire a lawyer and sue this company for the money loss and stress. Writing this review is the only way to show my grievances.

Note: I have moved around 7 times in the past 10 years. both local and interstate. Never had such a bad experience.

I hired Adept Moving snd Storage in Oct 2019, paid my down payment. Set the moving date. When I had a question concerning arrival time 2 weeks before pick up date, I could not get a return call from Besty who assured me I could call anytime about any questions and that she would assist me all the way. Well not only did Betsy not return any of my calls nor anyone else. I tried again and again numerous times to no avail. I even had other poeple call, same thing. I would either be hunp up on or transferred to a recorded message, where I left several messages. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. I am so disgusted with their business practice.I pray they will do what is right and start treating customers with respect.

Desired Outcome

Contact by the Business I am canceling my order. I would like the business to contact me. I can't call their canceling manager because they won't answer or return my calls. I am sending in writing my cancelation.

unprofessional , and flat out lied about cost & delivery
Most unprofessional business I've dealt or heard of dealings with. Brian *** (supposedly the owner's son) will tell you whatever he can to get your business and money. Taylor follows suit with false promises also. One excuse after another why they don't show up on time. After they have your money you better have a different phone number, because each time you try and call Brian or Taylor, or they won't answer. Taylor will over talk you and blame you and try and degrade you for their poorly run business. Another little trick they have, you have to pay with cash or check, that way you can't dispute anything and they won't set a delivery date until after the check clears, if that soon. Can't tell you how many different delivery dates we were told. They also won't even up the door to the truck when delivering until you pay the balance in cash or money order, so you have no re-course for damaged/missing items, like we had. And surprise the price doubled over the estimate, the driver made that comment before they even saw all they had to put on the truck. Don't expect it to be delivered anywhere close to what they promise the 1st, 2nd or 3rd time.

Desired Outcome

Resolution is to let everyone know, how bad of a business this is

Promised delivery 10-3-2019. Today is 7th and no delivery or explanation.Cost double estimate.Based on Yelp reviews, they use bait and switch'
Estimate of little over $4000 but looks like I will be paying more than $7000. Like the three one star complaints on Yelp, I received lowball estimate from Brian *** who emphasized they were veteran friendly and gave me discount (really!) and lowest estimate of movers contacted. That is the bait since I gave description and pictures of all to be moved. Movers came to load and indicated I had to pay more than thousand more than I had ready based on estimate. They have you now since I was required to move and thus pay (switch). Called several weeks before settlement and indicated I needed delivery on !0-3-2019. Today is 10-7 and no delivery. Had to sleep on floor for three nights and ended up spending $1000 to buy bed so wife wouldn't suffer anymore. We are both in our 60's and I am 100% disabled veteran. Required me to wire $1840 storage fee before they would deliver furniture and have $2811.75 for movers when they arrive. (If they arrive). Other complainants mentioned missing and damaged goods so I am not optimistic at this time. Manager by name of Taylor has reassured me that all is OK and he is surprised driver has not contacted me. I am not so surprised. Lot of my deceased son's belongings and pictures are in storage and it will be almost intolerable to us if they are missing. We are so upset about these movers. They picked up furniture and other household goods on last Saturday in April and supposedly keep everything in storage in Atlanta. They have implied goods are on truck for delivery but I don't know. I believe they should waive delivery costs. I can provide more documentation once I collect items I put in storage in upstate Pennsylvania later this month.

Desired Outcome

Is don't know if they even have my household goods though they say they do. If not, I want insured amount for goods and refund of all monies paid to them.

Overcharge, Late Delivery, Damaged and most importantly Stolen Goods
We hired Adept Moving and Storage to do our move after talking with Brian B. When originally looking at reviews of the company, we were mislead with reviews of a company with the exact same name in Los Angeles, rather than this company in Florida which upon further examination has horrible reviews.

When the movers came, to pick up the goods they charged us significantly more square footage than was estimated even we had no additional items and Brian had told us that we should be well under our square footage and that this would a very easy move for them. They also charged as a very heavy long carry fee of $425 because one of the elevators in our building broke the day they arrived, even though I put in my time and labor to help with the move.

The day after they picked up our stuff they informed us that it would be delayed even though they had made it seem very confident that we could get our stuff by Friday Aug 24.
Our belongings ended up arriving on August 28th.

Upon arrival, we noticed some of our belongings had been damaged; two picture frames, a porcelain kitchen canister, two candlestick holders, OXO canister, and a IKEA white computer desk.

Our biggest complaint is that a lot of our electronics were STOLEN. These items were in a box labeled "electronics". These items included: an Xbox one with two controllers and power cord, a Nikon D3300 w/ AF-P DX 18-55mm VR Digital SLR (Black) with accessories, a 8 GB Memory Card,16 GB Memory Card,32 GB SanDisk (SD card), and $200 worth of cash that we had received as a going away gift. In total we have ~$700 worth of stolen goods.

Desired Outcome

We would either like full replacement or refund for our stolen items and repair, replacement, or refunds regarding damaged items.

Extremely poor service & overcharged us. Encouraged us to participate in Insurance Fraud.
June, 2019 Ref # ASXXXXXXX
Brian B. refused to come to our condo in NC to do estimate. Said move of 9 pieces of reg size furn did not require. He said July 1 date for delivery was not a problem. We signed contract for $1,755.03.
Price of move at delivery on July 12 more than doubled. Brian low balled est to get our signature. No one at co Brian, Tim, & Taylor never returned phone calls or text. When we finally reached someone they would just lie & never follow through. Upon delivery 5 of the 9 pieces of furniture were damaged - 2 beyond repair. The parts bag to reassemble furniture was missing. We were told to call Justin, warehouse manager, who never returned call or texts. Refused to provide final billing or receipts upon delivery. Refused to provide our insurance company bill copies of written infor so our claim could be processed. On Aug 21 they wrote up & emailed us new forms never provided to us before or signed by us before for the insurance company. Lied & said original forms had something spilled on them. The email forms were dated July 11. Due to our own personal ethics & knowing that these forms did not exist prior to Aug 21, we did not sign. Request reimbursement of at a minimum $1,000 for the deliberate low balled estimate & poor service. Also request Revdex.com complete a detail review of their business practices including their intention to commit insurance fraud. From our standpoint, they should be held accountable & their license to do business be withdrawn. Respectfully submitted by

Desired Outcome

Minimum $1,000 refund. Revdex.com complete review of business practices & intent to commit insurance fraud. License should be under review for renewal to do business.

Never got refund for services not rendered
I scheduled a move with Adept Moving and Storage of Sarasota, FL through "Brian B". A week before the move date of 7/24/19, I called every number provided to me prior and they would not answer even after voicemails were left. I had my husband call as they did not have his number on file and Brian answered but hung up on him. Someone called me from yet another number I didn't have prior to schedule the move 3 days before the move. I said I no longer wanted to proceed with services since they couldn't return phone calls when they only had my deposit, I didn't feel confident they would return phone calls after they had all of the money and all my worldly belongings. After a lot of back and forth and apologies, "Tim" said he spoke with the manager
and they would refund me the deposit. This never happened. I disputed the payment with my credit card company, only to have them say Adept provided them documentation that I needed to cancel 7 days in advance. I had no way to cancel 7 days in advance since they wouldn't answer any of their numbers. I spoke with Tim and Taylor today since they provided documentation to my credit card company that it was clear I had to cancel 7 days in advance and both were very rude to me and said they never promised to refund me the money and I cancelled very late so I would lose my deposit.

Desired Outcome

Refund the deposit of $855 for services never rendered as promised since they didn't return phone calls and said the Brian was going through 'personal issues'

Original est. was $1260. Company charged us extra for 200 cu feet, $1008. We never rec'd items we were charged extra. Won't return phone calls now.
Pickup date was scheduled July 30. They finally showed up at 12:30 am. Said we needed more room and charged us 200 extra cubic feet at $1008. Delivered Aug 10. Many items were missing at delivery. We have called and called and no one has returned my messages. No one will answer phone. The original cost was to be $1260. After movers showed up, that is when they said we would need the extra cubic feet at an additional charge of $1008 at 12:30 am. Thirteen days have gone by and we still do not have our missing items and no one at the company will return our calls.

Desired Outcome

To have company contact us and return our missing items.

My daughter had paid and contracted Adept Moving and Storage, Sarasota FL, to move her from CLT to LA on 6/17/19. Movers arrived and said they would have enough room to fit it all. At 10 pm some 6 hours later and 95% of the items on the truck, they told her it would be another 540 cu ft and an additional $3618.00. She felt trapped, duped and that they would hold her furniture hostage, she signed the new BOL underdress. Any changes to the BOL should be done before any furniture or boxes are put onto the truck. I got involved the following day with Tim or Timothy A I., look him up and Taylor F I. to. talk thru this price increase. I told them to ship the product out, just get it moving. to this point she had paid $2500.53. I wired another $1000 on 6/21. We agreed that I would pay another $809 to get items to her. Tim was going to call back to confirm. I've sent him emails, vm, text messages and have yet to hear back as of 7/10/19. Taylor stopped taking my calls as well. The first move in date to move in was 6/22. we backed that up to 6/29. on 6/25, Taylor told me it wouldn't be 6/29. Driver/truck issues, it would be out there over the 7/4 holiday. Called 7/2 to ask for update. No answer. Called 7/3, same thing. finally my daughter got a call on 7/5 that her furniture was still in ATL and it would out next week. Time was TBD. Tim and Taylor and Adept lied to us from the get go. The took our money, holding our furniture and won't return calls. There is so much wrong with them. They also go under One Shot Move and filed for a new LLC on 5/19/19 - Smooth Moving LLC. They open, get underwater, close shop and open up again. The use the weight game or "Bumping" as a scam. I give them negative stars. At this point, I just want her furniture and boxes delivered in one piece and in good condition. Look up David F; Timothy A and Taylor F Igneri to see what kind of businesses they run.I filed a complaint with FMCSA as well as hired an attorney. Do your research folks.

Desired Outcome

Delivery After paying $3500.53, I expect my daughter's furniture to be moved in at no additional cost. We agreed on another $809.00 but Tim I. will not call me back. They have held her furniture for 3 weeks and continue to lie about where it is stored and when it will be delivered
