In order to meet our patients' needs and to make our services accessible to as many people as possible, we participate with most major dental insurance plans. We are also willing to submit a dental claim on behalf of a patient to insurances with which we are not contracted. Unfortunately, it is often impossible to determine the exact amount that a dental insurance will pay. We do our best to provide the patient with an estimate based on the information available to us, but we always make it clear that any portion of our fee that remains unpaid by the insurance agency is the patient's responsibility. We even have each patient sign a form that explains this in detail Despite the efforts we make, sometimes patients fail to understand the significance of this arrangementIn this situation the patient's real dissatisfaction lies with the insurance company. Insurance companies often fail to meet their obligations, leaving the patient responsible for unforeseen cost. If an insurance fails to cover a patient according to their expectations the patient must dispute this with their insurance carrier. We are always upfront about the costs, risks, benefits, and alternatives to the treatment we provide. Our fee schedule is fair and always discussed with the patient before treatment is performed. It is also our office policy to collect the fee once the service has been provided. We give patient's ample time to pay and send several written warnings before sending them to a collection agency. As with any financial transaction misunderstandings can happen. We are always willing to discuss Ms***' concerns, and I encourage her to contact us so we can discuss the matter further.
