Review: Friend Shoe Repair repaired a pair of my sandals in June 2014. After 2-3 wearings, the repair gave way. In October 2014 I returned to Friend and asked that they re-do the repair. They agreed to re-do the same repair for $5. I paid in cash. It was pointed out to me the heels of the sandals needed soles and it would be an additional $20. I charged this amount to my credit card and was given a claim check showing I had paid $25 and indicating I should pick up my shoes in 3 days. 3 days later, I showed up to retrieve my shoes, but they were not ready; I returned 4 days later, and again an additional 3 days later and one more time after that, but each time was told my shoes were not ready. On this last occasion, they promised to call when my shoes were ready for pick up. Since we were now into winter, I didn't miss the sandals and after a couple of months realized that Friend had never called me to retrieve my shoes. I went back to the store showed my claim check and they could not locate my shoes in the store. I was told they needed to look for them and they would call as soon as they found them. They shared that they had boxes and boxes of shoes in the basement. I returned a week later and subsequently followed up and inquired about my shoes another 4-5 times over the next several weeks and months. Finally, about a month ago after I had been by the store patiently asking for my shoes on 5-6 occasions, I was told the shoes could not be found. I asked if I would be getting at a minimum a refund of what I had paid for the repair ($25) and maybe some extra since my shoes were lost (I suggested another $25, for a total of $50). At this point, the proprietor suggested I was lying and had picked up my shoes already and was now trying to get money out of him. I pointed out how ridiculous this was and reminded him of the number of times I had been by to retrieve my shoes without success and the amount of effort that went into it because I wanted the shoes back. I informed him I'd be filing complaints with the Revdex.com and the NYC Dept. of Consumer AFfairs and I left the store.Desired Settlement: My ideal solution would be to get back my shoes, but if that is not possible, I'd like a refund of the $25 I pre-paid in repair charges and some additional moneys since the shoes were lost and will need to be replaced. Since the shoes were not brand new, I had suggested $25, but $50 is a more appropriate amount for a total of $75 -- which should enable me to purchase a less expensive replacement pair.
