From The Attic

I hired From the Attic in order to conduct an estate sale of my mother's personal property. Upon her death, a contract was signed and I was told that I would have to wait a few weeks before the owner, Jody R[redacted] would have time to start gong through my mother's things. A few weeks later, I started noticing valuable items missing from my mother's house and there still had not been an estate sale held. After about 5 weeks, I was told the sale would begin in one week. When I asked the owner about valuables missing from the house, she started telling me different stories about the items that did not make sense. She also started telling me that she did not feel comfortable with me asking her questions. Long story short, on the very day the estate sale was supposed to start, she cancelled the sale. She returned the keys to my mother's house and told me that she had already sold 3 items from my mother's house. She gave me 3 hand written receipts and a check. A week or so later, I realized that there had been a sterling silver bowl and plate with a dried flower arrangement on my mother's livingroom coffee table and that since Ms. R[redacted] had started staging the house for the estate sale, I hadn't seen the bowl and plate. When I asked her about it, she said she wasn't sure where it was, but that she "believed that the dried flower arrangement had been removed and the silver was sold for a price just above scrap prior to the sale " When I reminded her that she told me only 3 items sold, she stated "oh, it must have been added to something else sold". I asked her to recheck her records to account for this beautiful sterling silver bowl and plate, but she refused and became very defensive. I hired another estate sale company to finish up and they gave me a huge print out of every item sold and the price it sold for. They also told me that it is highly suspicious that all of my mother's sterling silver was sold by the previous company, From the Attic, without accurate records and for the amount of money they gave us.
