Froman Granite

To Whom it May Concern :   My company, Froman Granite, is a small company that sells modular 26"x96" granite counter tops from a Granite Yard located at [redacted] We use an installation team of 2 granite setters, that are subcontracted when an installation is asked for by the customer....

  The installation in question was a very small job, requiring only 2 of our tops to complete. We gave the customer a very fair price for such a small job, making very little profit on this granite material.   My installers typically template the area to be installed, cut the 26" wide modular granite tops to length, and install the granite. This is all done in 1 day at the location. They do not go by a customers drawings due to construction abnormalities like out of square walls, uneven or not cabinets, etc. In this case, the L-shaped counter on one leg was not quite the typical 26" wide counter top width. This was due to the customer adding a tile back splash over the existing laminate backsplash on one wall.   The installers did not notice that there was a slight difference in widths, (3/4") difference, and installed both modular tops at the same typical counter top width of 26" we do on all of our installs.   After the counter tops were installed, the customer called the next day complaining about the slight 3/4" difference in widths of the granite tops. Bear in mind that it is hardly noticeable to the observer. The customer wanted us to tear out the counter tops, recut new ones, and reinstall.   I explained that I was sorry for the slight difference in widths, but that I was a small granite supplier and could not afford to provide new granite tops plus pay the installers to do another install. Cutting and installing granite is not a precise art, and sometimes there are some variations in the install process. Looking at the quality of the granite provided, the granite edges and joints, stone sealing provided for free, and all done at a very low price, we feel we provided good overall service for the customer. Over 95% of our customers are delighted with the final product and installation of our granite tops. It is unfortunate that sometimes it does not work out that way, and for that I am truly sorry.   Regards, [redacted]
