Frontier Contracting Reviews (%countItem)

I entered into 2 contracts I 2017 and gave them deposits The work was not done and they will not respond to requests to refund deposits.
In June 2017, I signed a contract with Frontier to complete a chimney repair/rebuild, deck repair and replace some ceiling fans and gave them a deposit of $1800. Things started out ok with some work being done on the ceiling fans with a plan for the Chimeny repair to begin later summer/fall. In the meantime there was a major hail storm and since they were already working on my house I signed a contract to replace metal roof on my house, install metal roof on my garage and do some siding and gutter repairs. This contract was not signed until 11/2017 when they had started working on the chimney and I gave them a deposit of $7000. Due to weather issues the chimney did not get finished but at the end of January 2018, I was told that they were going to be able to finish the chimney and start working on the roofs and I gave them a $2500 draw for materials that had supposedly purchased for the various projects. We got more snow so I was told things had to be delayed but that I was one of the first on the list to have my roofs started in the Spring. That is when I started being given false start dates. Frontier would ocassionally show up to install a light or fan and talk about the plan but then I wouldn't hear from them for weeks sometimes months but was told that there were several health issues in the family. However, in April 2019, I found out that my Metastatic Breast cancer had returned in my liver, spine and bones. I told Frontier that it was imperative that the work be done. They showed up and finally in June they finished installing the siding and trim on the fireplace chimney but did not install the fireplace cap. We met with them in June and August to again discuss how vital it was for the work to be done. In August, Frontier promised us that they would be out to install chimney cap, do deck repair, do gutter and siding work and that the roofs would be started by October 15th. That did not happen and I have not heard from them since August. I sent an email to Frontier, 11/04/19 requesting either a start/completion date in writing or I wanted my $7000 deposit back and if materials or receipts could be produced I would work with him on settling the $2500 advance. Frontier did not respond. On 11/14/19, our Attorney sent him a letter requesting the $7000 deposit be returned and also the $2500 advance be returned because there is no evidence that any materials had actually been purchased. Frontier did not respond. Unfortunately due to my mounting medical bills and the need to hire somebody else to do and redo (the uncapped chimney has started to rot), I am not able to afford to proceed with legal action to reclaim my deposits. This has been financially and emotionally devastating for me.

Desired Outcome

I want my $7000 deposit back for the Hail Damage contract because absolutely none of that work was done. I would like my $2500 advance returned because there is no evidence that any of the materials outlined in the statement were ever purchased and certainly have not been delivered to my property so will have to be purchased for another contractor to do the work.

I kept getting new dates when the work would start. No work was ever done.
My neighbor and I hired Troy with Frontier contracting to install a drain at the bottom of both our driveways. I paid $2130.00 down. He was suppose to start work at the end of April. He kept pushing the date back. Several times he gave us a new start date but would never show up. No materials where delivered. Finally in September he said he would get it done or give us our money back. Again, no show. Now he won't return our calls or texts. Do not do business with Troy. He has done this same thing to several other people.

Desired Outcome

I would like my $2130.00 back and to let the public to know not to do business with Frontier Contracting. Troy can't be trusted.

Contract for work and deposit of $2664.00 given to contractor then no work was done and no return of deposit.
I contracted with this contractor for driveway work to be done. A $2,664.00 deposit was given to the contractor in April 2019. Dates were given by the contractor to start the 3-day job starting in April but he never came. This occurred over and over again through the summer. Phone calls were not answered. Text messages ended up to be the only way to communicate. Via text message, the contractor said he would come the 8th of August. He did not show up. Next he said he would get it done by the end of August or refund the deposit. After August passed and no work done we asked for our deposit to be refunded. We never heard back from him. The exact same situation happened to our neighbor who also contracted with this contractor for the same work during the same time. No work and the contractor keeps our deposit!! This should not be allowed to happen.

Desired Outcome

We want the deposit returned and for the public to know this contractor is not trustworthy.

Frontier Contracting was hired on 03/16/19 home improvement job. Contract states job to be done by 05/30/19. As of 12/02/19 it is still not complete.
I initially hired Frontier Contracting on 03/16/19 to replace siding, windows, doors, gutters/facia, interior trim, etc.. Troy (Frontier Contracting) created a contract stating entire job would start no later than 06/01/19 & be completed no later than 06/30/19 with a penalty of $100/day every day if finished later than 06/30/19. Troy had not started the job until 06/18/19. Troy has verbally informed us that because he had a late start the penalty was "voided". This was not a mutual agreement. As of 12/02/19 the job still remains incomplete. I have tried contacting Troy multiple times, he responds occasionally stating he will show up within that week & does not actually follow through. He has not responded to us since 11/12/19 stating he would show up "that week". Troy has not showed up for 40 days now, since 10/23/19. He has yet to replace 6 windows including all interior window trim, 6 storm doors, remaining siding, gutters & downspouts, light fixtures, & fix light that no longer works after he replaced it. Total job cost $21,595. Down payment was $12,288. First draw paid totaled $3,307. Second draw paid totaled $2,000. Remaining balance is $3,500 not including the $100/day penalty. All payments were made by check. I have written evidence of the days (& time worked) he did & did not show up including what he had accomplished those days. I have also recorded weather related absences. Images of contract(s) & related information is attached.

Desired Outcome

I would like Revdex.com's advice as to where to take this complaint. I would like to be refunded for all incomplete work and materials that have already been paid for. I believe the penalty of $100/day should be awarded to me as the contract states. Reasoning being home insurance company requested that the job to be completed this year or I would suffer a loss of coverage on my home. I believe this would be fair to ask for to accommodate the difficulty of dealing with Troy & trying to get him to complete the job in a timely manner.

Repairs that were contracted to be fixed have not been fixed.
In July of 2017 I contacted Troy and Sara Risdal of Frontier Contracting to make repairs on my home at *** in Sioux City, Iowa. Work began roughly in August and/or September of 2017. As of today, October 22nd 2019, the work has not been completed. Numerous texts, emails, and in person conversations have happened with Troy *** about when the work will be completed. I am always told that "I should be there in a couple weeks." It is now over two years. There is maybe one 8 hour day of work that needs to be done. Stairs were to be attached to the deck. I have been told that the stairs were completed at his shop and only needed to be bolted on. There is a metal exhaust pipe from the roof that was dented in the storm that is also to be replaced.

Desired Outcome

At this point I would like the work completed on the house within 30 days. We are potentially going to be moving. The last time I spoke with Troy in front of his house he was informed of this. I was told that he would be here within two weeks. That was two months ago.

My Father is requesting refund for siding job that was not able to be started, Troy *** show no intentions of refunding the money back to them.
My dad ***, hired Troy Risdal of Frontier contracting to do a siding job on his home and gave him $5000 via check to get siding ordered and job started. Unfortunately on October 22nd 2018 the neighbors had a house fire that traveled onto Juan's house destroying the home. That same day we called Troy to let him know of the situation and that we would likely have to cancel the job.Troy agreed to refund the money and let us know that the siding company would charge a 10% restocking fee for the siding which was about $250. On November 8th the decision was made that the siding would not be happening and asked him to refund the money. He replied by saying "sounds like a plan". A month had passed *** we had not seen a check come in the mail nor had he contacted us to pick up a check or cash. December 1st we contacted him again regarding the refund and why we had not seen it yet. Did not get a reply from Troy until December 6th after having calling him a few times the day before saying he was out of town. He would not answer any questions I asked him about the refund and why we hadn't seen it yet. After a few hours of hom not responding I decided to call thw other number on the business card which happened to be his wife. Let her know the situation said she would let Troy know we called. I let them know Juan was planning on getting a lawyer involved if it wasn't resolved. Troy then on December 7th messaged saying that he dis not have the money and had to many accounts receivable to be collected to be able to do a full refund. He said he would do a partial refund the upcoming week which Juan was not ok with as he has had a whole month to get that figured out. I did ask him twice if we agreed to that, how much the partial refund would be and when the remaining amount would be refunded. Troy did not answer the question both times that he was asked.

Desired Outcome

Stop making excuses and Refund Juan the full amount of $5000 in one payment just as the payment was made to Troy.

On August 13, 2018, Troy *** of Frontier Contracting agreed to build a retaining wall for me for $18,000. He required a $10,000 down payment, and insisted it be in two separate $5000 checks to avoid bank/IRS scrutiny. He cashed the checks that day. He never did any work. Nothing. I found he had left another stranded with an incomplete wall for over 2 years, leaving the poor man unable to even use his yard, and now faced with hiring someone new to tear it all down and start over. So I asked Troy to commit to a time frame of October 1. He resisted, even though that's what he originally agreed to. He finally conditionally agreed, but within a week, sent me an email telling me that he didn't think we were right for each other and advising to me find another contractor. He refused to refund my money. I think he is a con man. I don't think he ever intended to build my wall. He took my money and did nothing. I consider it fraud and theft.

Desired Outcome

Refund Full refund of my $10,000 deposit.

Our elderly father hired Frontier Contracting to replace his roof in July, 2016. They were given $9,000.00 to begin the project. We have the receipt and signed contract. After repeated attempts to contact the owners of Frontier Contracting, *** and ***, they would occasionally respond with false start dates. They never came and did the job, EVER. No services or materials were ever rendered. Now a year in a half later, they refuse to pay back the money. They claim they don't have it anymore and can't pay it back. They are total and complete crooks. They took the last penny of a 72 year old man, living on a fixed income.

Desired Outcome

Refund Pay back the $9,000.00 you stole from an elderly man

Frontier Contracting Response

Frontier Contracting was hired by the complaintant's father to do a roofing project. There were some unfortunate events that pushed back the project. We stayed in contact with the client throughout the process and were on the same page. No where in the contract is there a timeframe or completion date. The client later cancelled the contract and hired another contractor to do the project. In normal cases, as with any business, if a client cancels a contract, they lose the deposit (hence the reason for having a deposit). However, based upon the circumstances and our delay in schedule, we agreed to refund in full. We never "stole the money" and never "refused to pay the money back". The client passed away shortly thereafter, and we have been continually harassed by his daughters. The $9000.00 has already been refunded and issue has already been resolved. I ask that the clients children please stop slandering and harassing my business.

Customer Response

No, not happy with the results. You can let Frontier Contracting know why. Here is a timelime of events for the last fifteen months that we had to endure from *** and this timeline can be posted a long with my initial complaint so everyone can see this on the Revdex.com.

1. *** hires Frontier Contracting, owners *** and ***, on July 19, 2016 to replace his roof. *** was paid $9000.00 of a $13,570.00 job to begin the project. No where on the contract does it say that the $9,000.00 was a deposit or that we wouldn't get the money refunded if the job was never done.

2. September 6, 2016 *** called Frontier Contracting at 4:30 pm to inquire when the roofing job was going to begin. *** said it would be done within the next couple of weeks.

3. October 8, 2016, *** called Frontier Contracting AGAIN and asked when they would begin the roofing. *** said they would start October 10, 2016. They never showed up.

4. November 21, 2016 *** (***'s daughter) called Frontier Contracting and asked *** why the roofing hadn't started yet. *** responded that they would be there to drop off the materials to begin the roofing at the end of the week. Social media indicated that *** was in Nashville, TN on vacation the end of that week. No materials were ever delivered.

5. April 25, 2017 *** contacted *** and was told that the roof would be done in May, 2017. Frontier Contracting never came.

6. June 7, 2017 Attourney Stu Mills was hired at a cost of $1,400.00 to notify Frontier Contracting via certified mail to terminate the roofing job and refund *** the $9000.00 paid to Frontier Contracting for a job that was never done.

7. July 20, 2017 lawsuit was filed. *** passed away.

8. September 18, 2017 Frontier Contracting filed a responsive pleading but court already ruled in *** favor on Septemer 15, 2017.

9. October 27, 2017 fifteen months later, claim was paid to *** Attourney.

Now, let's keep in mind that *** never showed up for a scheduled meeting with Attourney Stu Mills to resolve this matter and he also expressed at one point to Mr. Mills that he didn't have the money to pay *** back the $9000.00.

He did not refund the money until after complaints were made to the Revdex.com and the Attorney General. These complaints were submitted by *** family on October 21, 2017.

Also, the building that was to be roofed by Frontier Contracting accumulated more water damage all the months *** waited for this project to ensue.

*** has stated in his response to the Revdex.com complaint that he would like the *** family to stop slandering his business. . Slander means to make a false statement damaging a persons reputation. As you can see from the above timeline, all statements made are true and factual. We also think it was in very poor ethical taste, to put a 73 year old man, that is now deceased, through this turmoil, while he was alive.
