Frontier Motor Cars, Inc. Reviews (6)

[redacted] of Frontier Motor Cars, Inc. has asked me to answer the complaint brought by Ms. [redacted] related to the repossession of her motor vehicle.  Ms. [redacted] purchased a used 2008 Dodge Avenger from Frontier on October 12, 2012.  As part of the motor purchase purchase contract...

and finance agreement, she was required to maintain insurance to protect the collateral.  That proviso is in letter B of the finance agreement form which Ms. [redacted] signed and was provided a copy.  It is also Wisconsin law that drivers maintain liability insurance.  Unfortunately, Ms. [redacted] did not have insurance coverage, so Frontier sent her a right to cure the account on December 6, 2012.  The right to cure expired on December 21, 2012 and Ms. [redacted] still did not provide proof of insurance.  A self help repossession was authorized on December 22, 2012.  [redacted] repossessed the car.  Ms. [redacted] redeemed the account on December 27, 2012.  At that time, she provided proof of insurance.  Although she was repossessed once, Ms. [redacted] let her insurance coverage lapse 2 other times during the loan period causing Frontier to send right to cures  for no insurance coverage.  Frontier worked with her to get coverage in place after those additional insurance lapses.  Because of these insurance lapses and the need to repossess the car, Frontier has to legally report the repossession to the Credit Bureaus.  The trade line will not be changed. Ms. [redacted] paid the account off on November 4, 2014.  Frontier has received the title and lien release from the State DMV and it will be immediately forwarded to Ms. [redacted].  I have given the staff at Frontier Ms. [redacted]’s new address of [redacted] so that the title and lien release can be resent to her.  Frontier had previous addresses of [redacted] and [redacted] in Milwaukee where the materials were sent but returned because she had moved without giving Frontier her updated address information.

Review: On August 1, 2014, my girlfriend who is the co-owner of the vehicle (06 Cevy Impala) spoke with [redacted] at Frontier regarding our failure to maintain insurance. We received a letter in the mail saying the company would repossess the vehicle if we did not obtain insurance. At that time we were unable to do so. We called and spoke with [redacted] and let her know the nature of the situation and requested if we could have until the 15th of August to reinstate our insurance. [redacted] told us that this was acceptable and she would notate our account. She also advised us to call in on the 15th and provide new insurance policy information. She told us not to worry about the letter that was sent and stated "we have to send the letter out to cover us, in the event that you don't get insurance." After speaking with her, we were satisfied and assured that as long as we reinstated insurance by August 15th, everything would be okay. On August 10th, our car was repossessed. Since this was a Sunday, we had no choice but to wait until the 11th to contact Frontier to see what was going on. When we finally spoke to someone, it was [redacted] again. The situation was explained and she confirmed that they did in fact pick up the vehicle anyways. When asked why would our car be repossessed if we had spoken and made a prior arrangement regarding the renewal of our insurance, [redacted] told us that the "legal department" can overrule what she told us and pick up the car if they want to. I was upset because I think its very unfair and bad business to inform the consumer that everything will be okay and agree upon a date when in fact, the whole conversation was pointless because they failed to mention that even though we called and set up that arrangement, the car could still be repossessed. Now, in order to retrieve our vehicle, Frontier is saying we have to reinstate insurance, pay $315 for our car not, a $200 repo fee, and $24 for storage fees per day. This is far beyond ridiculous especially considering the fact that [redacted] told us we had only one late payment due and needed to get insurance on the 15th. Now, they are saying we have two payments due, we need to get insurance, and pay $200 + $24/day in storage fees. Also, this repo will be put on our credit and damage it simply because their employee failed to make us fully aware of the procedure that would be carried out. [redacted] told us "we were fine" and as long as we got insured by the 15th of August, we would be okay. What that says to me is if you don't have coverage by the 15th, then we may repossess your vehicle. She never informed us that making an arrangement with her, as we do often, would basically mean nothing and was a total waste of time because the "legal department" is in charge of these matters. If this was the case, when we called on the 1st of August, we should have been directed to a member of the "legal department" so we would not have been misinformed.Desired Settlement: I would like the repo off of our credit histories. I also would like them to cover the cost of the repo fee since($200) they were the ones who misinformed us as their customers. Had everything been fully explained in the first, we would not be in this situation because we would have not allowed our car to be repossessed. The reason we bought a car from Frontier in the first place was because they seemed like honest people and we knew that once we paid the vehicle off, it would improve our credit. I feel like we have been robbed of that opportunity with this bogus repossession and payoff date set at January 15th 2015.

Response:

Frontier sent Ms. [redacted] a Right To Cure her account because she failed to maintain insurance on the vehicle as required by law and the contract. Ms. [redacted] did call the dealership and indicate that she would get coverage but not until August 15th. The call was noted on her account, but she was told that since the right to cure had expired it would not stop repossession efforts. Needless to say, the car was repossessed. On Saturday, August 16, 2014, Ms. [redacted] came to the dealership, provided insurance, made her payments for amounts due and redeemed the car note. She was then allowed to retrieve her car. As a courtesy to Ms. [redacted], Frontier waived the requirement for three performance payments ($153.51 x 3 = $460.53) under Ch. 425, Wis. Stats., due on the account because of the repossession. The matter appears to be resolved between the parties by this compromise. Thank you.

I bought a car from Frontier Motors a few months ago, and it seemed to be a great deal. The day I bought the car, it died after I took it off the lot. They kept it for quite a while telling me they were fixing the problem, but after I took it home again, the engine light came on and the car shook badly. I realized later that the heat on the drivers side didn't work, after they had told me it did. I brought the car back numerous times, and each time they told me the problems were fixed. They never were. They told me they would not take the car back and refund my money, but if I wanted to pay them to fix the car, I would get a discount. They told me they had put an after market exhaust system in and had replaced the tires. I had the car looked at and the tires needed to be replaced and the exhaust system was stock, not after market. They openly lied to me numerous times after taking my money. I later met two women who also knew very little about cars, had purchased cars from Frontier and had the same exact problems (Shaking, engine problems, bad parts). I cant believe this place is still in business!

I guess I would like to start this off after I heard a customer complain to frontier motor cars about a part that was to be ordered for them and when the girls In the office tried to help them understand this customer started yelling and was very threatening to the ladies there ....... as we all know items are some times hard to get and need to give to them time.whati don't understand is how fast people are to complain and act a fool over this...... Now we are customers of frontier and have had excellent service for the time we went to look at and buy the 2003 KIA two weeks after we got our Kia last year we had a very old weather and I had to go to the dr well the Kia started but while driving it made a pop sound and then it over heated well it was tolled to frontier and when they looked at it it had to have a lot of work probably over 2000 dollar and had to replace a lot but they did charge us a penny and now we want to buy a second car and I will not buy from anyone else.
They a great business and have good employees with great attitudes...... Thanks Frontier Motor

I usually don't submit reviews, but I just felt the need to share my experience at Frontier Motor Cars.
I MUST say, I have NO regrets about my 2005 Chrysler Pacifica I purchased from Frontier! From the moment I stepped foot on the lot, I was greeted by a salesman who provided the most help I had had that week, while searching for a vehicle at multiple dealerships. It was at that moment, I knew I would find a vehicle suitable for my family and I. After explaining my needs and expectations, my salesperson suggested the Chrysler Pacifica. He explained to me in detail what this vehicle would provide. It was the first and last car I looked at, and test drove.
In the past, when I have purchased a vehicle, the process has taken half of my day!! (I'm sure a lot of people would agree with the lengthy process it usually takes to purchase a vehicle). BUT NOT THIS TIME!!! This time it only took about an hour and a half, give or take before I had taken my new 'ride' off of the lot! Not only was my salesperson extremely explanatory when it came to the contract, but the women in the payment & collections office were prompt, and kind as well! Everyone made me feel safe with my purchase, which allowed me to feel like I could rely on the company should anything go wrong in the future. I was very impressed!
To this day, I have not had any problems with my vehicle. The only time I have taken it in to Frontier's shop, is for it's usual maintenance (oil change, tune up). The mechanics are always helpful and prompt as well, and the prices are amazing!
IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO BUY A CAR, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND FRONTIER MOTOR CARS!!
Thanks again Frontier!
Sincerely,
YOUR BIGGEST FAN, Chesarra
