Company installed new roof after hurricane damage. Roof installed 12/21/18. Two independent certified roof inspectors state roof was installed incorrectly, roof installation problems will cause future water intrusion problems, and roof needs to be replaced entirely. Reports are in progress. One report already sent to Contractor. Requested a refund multiple times for roof and other house damage caused by contractor such as gutters.

Desired Outcome

Refund of $12,181.70 for roof incorrectly installed, mold remediation performed incorrectly, and damage to gutters and yard.

Hello we are responding to the complaint from Miss ***,the complaint has no merit as there was never a license roof inspector she hired a metal roof company to come and look at her roof, we asked for the invoice and she would not share the invoice the inspection was hand written on a blank estimate page with *** Metal roofing letter head. She started out with it being the ridge vent was not venting correctly then it escalated to bigger things, and now the roof needs to be replaced.*** metal roofing is a roofing company and as a roofing company they cannot do any certified inspections as there is a conflict of interest the same as a license contractor cannot due home inspections. The items that were brought to our attention we have not been granted access to even verify these things.WE have asked to come to the property and in one instance she says yes then no.The items she says are incorrect have nothing to do with the actual performance of roof. They are cosmetic. The flashing that she says does not exist is there in her pics,The vent pipe boot the shingle manufacturer does not want any nails left out in open instead we use black tar in tubes to glue in down in the front section. The damaged gutters is a downspout that we did not damage and there is some debris in the gutters and we recognize that as we recognize the ridge caps are in two different direction as we stayed on roof that particular night until around 7-8 pm to get it finished before a big storm came in that night. Also *** so called report says was not installed to manufacturers specks, they don't have any spec have any specifications on how roofs are to be installed as this makes them liable for that installers mistakes.Miss *** also called the city of Morehead and as I told her N.C, does not require roof inspections. The mold remediation was done properly as all the other work we performed at this residence. The price for the gutters started out at 1200$ within an hour it increased to $ 1864.50 + 10% for price escalation as im not going to do the work rite away ( her words). I can get gutters put on for $1185.75.WE have asked for permission to go to her home and address the corrections she is talking about but as I stated earlier she one minute is fine then going in a total different direction. The state of N.C. requires us to give a one year warranty but I am so confident in that roof I told her I would give her a four year warranty under normal conditions(weather).the reason I broke contact with her is the fact it became harassment as we were getting 10 to 20 emails a day on 1/25/2019 we received 19 emails in an 2 hour period.AS I have said we will go there and do any corrections deemed necessary we are not running from anything. This started out with roof venting when there was proof there was nothing wrong with that it moved on to different things even her quote roof inspector does not say anything on his so called roof report about venting and look at his title on that report he is an estimator.Thank you for your time I have all the documentation to back us up and would be willing to share it at anytime

ROOF INSTALLATION AND GUTTERS
While the existing roof was being torn off, the roofers left the existing felt on the roof. I told Mr. Frost I expected a complete tear off, since we just had been through a hurricane, and why was everything not removed completely to the roof deck. He said that they were not done yet. The roofers then proceeded to install *** roof underlayment over the existing felt without removing it. I asked Mr. Frost how was the decking able to be inspected if the felt was not removed to expose the roof deck. He said that my roof was fine and the decking was in good condition.

The roof was installed and left with *** underlayment overnight and wrapped over the ridge vent during a very strong wind/rain storm. The bathroom ceiling was leaking during this time and while waiting for the new roof. This is when the shingle bundles were left on my roof and slid over the ***r onto my gutters and damaging them. I suspect the downspout damage was caused by the roofer when he removed his equipment from my garage. The gutters or downspout were not in this damaged condition prior to the new roof being installed. I have photos of them prior to the roof installation. The price originally provided to Mr. Frost while waiting for the new estimate. It was a percentage of the original installation price in 2015. I received an updated estimate from the original gutter installers on 01/24/19 and provided it to Mr. Frost as soon as I received it.

I later discovered on my own that the entire ridge vent was covered with white material. I suspected this to be the underlayment that had not been cut to open the vent. I was told by Mr. Frost hat this was a moisture barrier, not roof underlayment.
Another independent roofer looked at it and said that it was in fact underlayment that was completely covering the ridge vent and also discovered that the extra underlayment was just tucked under the ridge vent without being cut. Neither was the underlayment cut out at the ridge vent to enable venting of my attic.

Currently my attic is not venting properly and there is a hole into my sidewall where the garage gable roof meets the front exterior wall of my house that will soon cause water intrusion if not repaired soon and correctly. Any qualified and/or experienced roofer would have seen this and known to provide adequate measures (such as flashing, etc.) to prevent damage to the exterior wall of my house.

Final Business Response:
We have requested numerous times to be allowed an opportunity to inspect the issues Ms. has regarding the work we did for her; to date she has refused to give us that opportunity.

As with all of our clients, we provide complete and full warranty for our workmanship and will honor our warranty by making any necessary repairs if we are allowed to do so.

We have hired an attorney to help us with this matter.
