To Whom It May Concern:  We Received Mr. [redacted] (Land Rover) Vehicle In Our Facility For A Draw On The Charging System, Resulting In Him Having To Disconnect Battery Cable And Then Jump Vehicle To Get Running.  While We Were Testing Vehicle For Electrical Draw The Vehicles Symptoms...

Finally Worsened And Vehicle Would Not Start.  We Continued Testing For Draw, And Concluded That The Vehicles Battery Was Never Being Drained Or Had Any Type Of Draw. We Then Spent Many Hours Inside The Vehicle Testing The Starting Circuit That Is Located On The Inside Of The Vehicle.   We Spoke With Customer And Stated Needed Vehicle Longer For Testing On The Starting Circuit.  Upon Testing Of Starting Circuit It Was Determined That One Of Two Modules In The Land Rover Was Not Supplying A Ground Circuit To The Starter Relay Upon Turning Ignition Key To Start Vehicle.  We Then Informed Mr. [redacted] Of The Findings And That We Are Not Capable Of Programming Land Rover Modules, And That Vehicle Must Be Taken To The Dealer To Have Repairs Performed.   Since This Was The Result Of Our Many Hours Of Testing Electrical Systems To Diagnose Vehicle.  We Told Customer There Would Be No Charge For Our Time Rendered Since The Vehicle Needed To Go To The Dealer.  It Was Unfortunate That We Were Not Able To Perform Repairs Needed To Get Vehicle Back On The Road For Mr. [redacted].  Unfortunately Land Rover Vehicles Take Very Specific Programming Specifications And As A Small Repair Facility We Do Not Have Access To These Specific Programs.  Thank You And Wish Them The Best.

Hello, in fact the Engine Control Unit also known as "Engine Control Module", is indeed the problem this vehicle has and one of the two we suspected. This was also informed to vehicle owners. Chances are that once replaced, the need to jump the vehicle or disconnect the battery will not happen any more. This is the original issue. What might have been found in the vehicle happens to be from our online based professional resources. If looked at closely it may even have the test procedures which lead us to these answers. We left you, the customers, the option to go further with charges to tell you which of those two modules are the cause, knowing that we could not replace them here. Again this has to be done at the dealer so we referred you and charged you nothing, to try and help you out. This all just confirms that we were correct in our diagnostics, we also informed you that it would not be a cheap repair, again, why there were no charges from us. Not to repeat my original response but again, the problem just progressed to a full no start rather than an intermittent no start. We are absolutely not responsible for the break down of your vehicle.Thank You,Jeff

Pat's says they did not cause any further damage to the vehicle than there was when I brought it in, but the fact remains that is was starting with a jump at the very least.  They claim there was one of two modules that was the issue with the ignition, however, I have taken it to a LandRover dealer and am not being told anything about any module having to do with the ignition.  I am being told, my engine control unit is out, meaning there is no communication from the computer to the engine, which was working when I dropped it off at Pats.  Also, upon clearing out my vehicle to drop it off at the LandRover mechanic, I found the attached paper that was obviously left by Pats from when they had my vehicle.  It is dated on 1/7/15 the exact day I dropped it off with them.  The paper contains internet searched solutions and instructions on how to repair the vehicle, which is proof they didn't know what they were doing, but decided to experiment on my vehicle anyway.  When they found themselves searching the internet for solutions and instructions, that should have been their clue that this issue was beyond their capabilities, however, they continued to experiment on my vehicle and wound up giving me my vehicle in worse condition than when it was left with them.  This issue went from being a minor repair to a major repair that is going to cost me well over $2000.  Pat's needs to own up to their mistake, show integrity as a business, and be held responsible for the added damages that have been caused to my vehicle.  I have children that depend on that vehicle to get to school and all they cared about was the money that they were going to potentially make by working on my vehicle.  Now I have to take my children out in the early morning in 40 degree cold weather just to make sure my son makes it to school on time.  Trust me I would much rather have my vehicle and have to jump it every time I need it rather than be out of a vehicle all togethe.
