Fruitport Family Eye Care, PLLC Reviews (2)

I went to Fruitport Family Eye Care for an eye exam and to purchase glasses I was almost immediately put on over the counter medications and that was not over the counter Given I get my eyes checked annually I thought this was a bit extreme However I have Crohns disease and with this auto immune disorder my eyes could be affected so I followed the instruction provided to me by the Optometrist I was put on Restasis twice a day, fish oil pills twice a day, additional over the counter eye drops twice a day and an over the counter vitamin supplement to prevent Macular degeneration The glasses I ordered were bifocal transition lenses which is nothing new to me as I have been wearing transition bifocals for years Upon receipt of the glasses I couldn't see clearly through the left lens Somehow the prescription got inverted and the lens was positive when it should have been negative This was corrected at no cost When the wrong prescription lens was replaced with the correct lens, I noticed that I couldn't see clearly through the right lens When I expressed my concern I was told that my eyes needed to adjust I was told that I had a rare eye condition in that my right eye needed a positive lens and my left eye needed a negative lens This has never been the case in the past Both of my eyes my entire life have required negative lenses as I'm near sighted I was instructed to wear the glasses from the time I woke up to the time I went to bed so that my eyes could adjust to the new prescription However, my eyes never adjusted I called to explain the issue I was having and I was told that I need to look through the top of the lens not the transition part I explained that I wasn't looking through the bifocal portion of the lens and that I could see more clearly looking over the top of the glasses using just my right eye than I could looking through the top portion of the lens They were kind enough to redo my eye exam but did charge my insurance for the second exam I wore my old glasses for the second exam and when the exam was complete the Optometrist stated I had 20/vision At that point I explained that I had my old glasses on so the eye exam was redone with the new glasses and the Optometrist said that my eyes hadn't changed I attempted to get used to the glasses but never could and called back a 3rd time to explain the issue I was having I was told this time that I needed to get my sugar checked because my eyes were "moving in and out between positive and negative" I've never had any sugar problems nor does it run in my family That didn't make sense to me at all so I decided to get a 3rd opinion from another Optometrist As it turns out the prescription for my right eye was incorrect and I was informed that I have 20/vision in my right eye which would explain why I was having trouble seeing Fortunately Fruitport Family Eye Care agreed to take the glasses back and reimburse the money they charged me and my insCo I was very glad because I paid out of pocket over $between exams and the glasses Ultimately they did not listen to me when I tried to tell them I couldn't see As a general statement I really wished the "learned" doctors out there took more time to listen to their patients Just because you went to some type of medical school does not make you more in tune with your patients to the point that you know them better then they know themselves

I went to Fruitport Family Eye Care for an eye exam and to purchase glasses. I was almost immediately put on over the counter medications and 1 that was not over the counter. Given I get my eyes checked annually I thought this was a bit extreme. However I have Crohns disease and with this auto immune disorder my eyes could be affected so I followed the instruction provided to me by the Optometrist. I was put on Restasis twice a day, fish oil pills twice a day, 2 additional over the counter eye drops twice a day and an over the counter vitamin supplement to prevent Macular degeneration. The glasses I ordered were bifocal transition lenses which is nothing new to me as I have been wearing transition bifocals for years. Upon receipt of the glasses I couldn't see clearly through the left lens. Somehow the prescription got inverted and the lens was positive when it should have been negative. This was corrected at no cost. When the wrong prescription lens was replaced with the correct lens, I noticed that I couldn't see clearly through the right lens. When I expressed my concern I was told that my eyes needed to adjust. I was told that I had a rare eye condition in that my right eye needed a positive lens and my left eye needed a negative lens. This has never been the case in the past. Both of my eyes my entire life have required negative lenses as I'm near sighted. I was instructed to wear the glasses from the time I woke up to the time I went to bed so that my eyes could adjust to the new prescription. However, my eyes never adjusted. I called to explain the issue I was having and I was told that I need to look through the top of the lens not the transition part. I explained that I wasn't looking through the bifocal portion of the lens and that I could see more clearly looking over the top of the glasses using just my right eye than I could looking through the top portion of the lens. They were kind enough to redo my eye exam but did charge my insurance for the second exam. I wore my old glasses for the second exam and when the exam was complete the Optometrist stated I had 20/20 vision. At that point I explained that I had my old glasses on so the eye exam was redone with the new glasses and the Optometrist said that my eyes hadn't changed. I attempted to get used to the glasses but never could and called back a 3rd time to explain the issue I was having. I was told this time that I needed to get my sugar checked because my eyes were "moving in and out between positive and negative". I've never had any sugar problems nor does it run in my family. That didn't make sense to me at all so I decided to get a 3rd opinion from another Optometrist. As it turns out the prescription for my right eye was incorrect and I was informed that I have 20/20 vision in my right eye which would explain why I was having trouble seeing. Fortunately Fruitport Family Eye Care agreed to take the glasses back and reimburse the money they charged me and my ins. Co. I was very glad because I paid out of pocket over $500.00 between exams and the glasses. Ultimately they did not listen to me when I tried to tell them I couldn't see. As a general statement I really wished the "learned" doctors out there took more time to listen to their patients. Just because you went to some type of medical school does not make you more in tune with your patients to the point that you know them better then they know themselves.
