The mistakes they made would have caused me to pay over $129,000 in additional tax. I have some familiarity with taxes so when I discovered things were being done wrong, I hired another firm, only to really find the depth of the mistakes.
To make matters worse, FTB Tax charged up front for the tax work and refused to refund anything. I had to dispute with my credit card to get a refund (as the work was botched, and I had to hire tax professionals who did work properly).
Not only that, but today I discovered that they reported my account to a collection agency that is going to report to the credit bureau. First, to botch a client's returns is one thing. Second, to collect for work that wasn't even done (I had to hire someone else and the work they did do was so incorrect I would have paid much much more than I legally should have paid) amounts to fraud.
If you have tax issues or need tax returns done, DO NOT HIRE THEM. Hire other CPA's! The errors, lack of professionalism, and then fraudulently collecting for work NOT EVEN DONE RIGHT is ridiculous.
