My husbnd & I spent the night at the SteamBoat Inn for my Birthday, just an overnight and dinner there
on August 21st, 2018. We parked in their parking lot right on the property. When we got up the next day, Wednesday and checked out. We found the entire parking lot was flooded and filled with mud.

Our 2012 ***, which we had just purchased the beginning of August. It was a Limited Edition and only had 1 previous owner and only 36,000 miles and was a Certified vehicle.

Well it had rained overnight and the entire parking had flooded. Our car and others were filled with muddy water, mud and wet seats, etc. Our Vehicle was totaled by our insurance, ***,who handled our situation fabulously. They covered the loan we had minus our $1000.00 deductible.

I proceeded to notify management at the Steamboat about this issue and expecting for them to cover our deductible. Well, after providing them with All the paperwork to verify my claim, and they contacted our Insurance Adjuster to make sure we were honest, however, I had faxed them a copy from Insurance Co. detailing that indeed our deductible was $1000.00.

Few days later the Owner of the Steamboat and also the Eden Inn there contacted me. He admitted he owned the property and the parking lot, and was aware there was a culvert up to his parking lot.
However, he refuses to make good for our out of pocket expenses due to the incident...there were no signs posting that it could flood. The owner refuses to pay my deductible.

Thank you for writing about your client’s recent visit to the Fulton Steamboat Inn. During the evening of Wednesday 8/21/2018, very late in the evening or early the next morning, part of the south parking lot of the hotel flooded due to extremely heavy rains earlier that evening. The hotel has two parking areas, one located to the north side of the hotel and one to the south of the hotel. Before this date, neither parking area flooded at any time even with all of the significant rains we have had earlier this year. Neither lot is in a flood zone. During the particular evening, area weather stations called for flash flooding throughout Lancaster County, but rain in the Strasburg area did not seem any heavier than usual. Yet for some reason the lower half of the south side parking area began to flood.

The hotel notified its insurance provider immediately the next day, and while they were sympathetic to our call, they explained that the parking area of a business is not covered by the businesses insurance since the assets owned in the parking lot (automobiles) are owned by individuals. According to the agent a typical deductible for this type of claim would fall under the comprehensive portion of their insurance and I was told the average deductible would be around $250; some a little less, some a little more. I was told that the hotel had no liability and most businesses would not assist in paying any deductible in this type of situation.

The ownership and staff of the hotel felt terrible about the situation. We did what we could to power wash off vehicle exteriors, clean and dry the interiors, but a few vehicles were damaged beyond a simple cleaning and for these guests we offered to assist in paying any deductible up to $500.

There is no notification in the parking area of any potential flooding because the parking area is not in a flood zone and at no time during any of the very heavy rains did the lot show any signs of flooding. We are working with our township to determine what may have caused the unusual high level of water and if anything can be done with the townships drainage system to prevent the backup of water from ever occurring again.

I apologize for the inconvenience this unusual weather situation must have caused your client, but I feel the hotel has been very reasonable in helping with any financial loss caused by the flash flooding that evening.

Fulton Steamboat charged me $25.00 for "incidentals" for my one night stay in April. They said this would be credited back to my card in a few business days. I have contacted them by email several times and have not gotten a response and the 25.00 still has not been credited back to my *** card.

I checked with the front desk and they do not see any charge made to *** for $25.00. It could be something with ***. In her response she indicated she emailed us but we have not received any of those emails. Also I gave her a call today and left a message for her to call or email me. Hopefully we can get this resolved.

I am rejecting this response because: It was not a *** card issue. John at Fulton Steamboat replied in an email to me that it was an "incidentals" charge and would be credited back in a few days. After that email, Fulton Steamboat claimed they didn't receive any of my emails. I am copying the correspondence for your review:

I just checked my credit card statement again...I still have not received the 25.00 credit. We only stayed one night and did not have any "incidentals" ....why aren't you crediting my credit card for this amount like you said?

I still have not received the 25.00 authorization for incidentals back on my *** card. You said it would show up in "a few banking days". It has been almost a month since our one night stay at your hotel. Do I need to get the Revdex.com involved?

Our stay was nice but my credit card was billed more than my receipt was for. I was billed on my *** card 213.65 but was told and my receipt stated the charge was 188.65. Can you explain the difference?
