Plumber did not check that sump pump could be repaired but instead only offered that it be replaced. The sump pump was only clogged.
I had an issue in April that my sump pump failed and flooded my lower level. I called GR Metro Plumbing and he was very prompt in getting there. He told me he was able to get it running again but it was not running well at all. This was right after our area's 100 year flood and my backyard was turning into a swamp so I needed it fixed and told him to go ahead and replace it. The cost was $580. After the fact, a person in my family who does plumbing repair but was not available that day, asked if he could have the old sump pump to see if he could get it running and use as a back up for his house. The day he got it he called me within minutes to let me know that the pump was simply plugged up with junk and was EASILY fixable and he already had it running. I was obviously not happy with this but I wanted to speak with [redacted], the owner of GR Metro Plumbing, to see what he had to say. The next day, June 11, I called and spoke with his secretary and told her I may have a service issue and would like to speak to someone. I very briefly explained the issue to her. A few hours later I get a call from [redacted], which went to my voicemail. I still have this message as it was a dandy - [redacted] was very upset on this message and said he doesn't appreciate customers calling to tell him he ripped them off, along with various other statements. Well, I never said any such thing to his secretary. So I called [redacted] back and explained to him that those words were never said and he didn't seem to believe me. I tried to tell him my issue at first, but he kept interrupting telling me he doesn't like people telling him how to run his business, etc etc etc. When I was finally able to explain this issue, and asked him why he never checked for the pump being plugged, his answer was he did not nor would he ever check for that as it is a waste of his time and mine. What??? I said so basically if someone calls you and you see it's an old pump, you will just simply replace it rather than try to repair it and he said yes. He says he gave me options but the options he gave me at the time were to either replace it or leave it and not have it run properly - I was never given the option of repair. At this point, [redacted] had raised his voice several times and kept skirting the issue of why he didn't check for the clog. When he kept interrupting me and basically being rude, I told him that NOW I think he was ripping me off. I told him I would tell family and friends to never call him and that I would be filing this complaint, to which he responded "excellent"! This guy was very nice the day he came out, but on the phone he was like a different person - he was very rude and had no concern that I was the customer and that is not how you treat customers. He defensiveness and blatant lack of interest in my concern, seemed to me like he knew he was guilty right away of taking advantage of a single woman that doesn't know much about plumbing and had an emergency situation. I hope that is not the case.
