I DO NOT agree with Mr. Galvan's response. First of all, when we met on Sunday, June 22, 2014, the Galvan's said one reason for the cost of their bid was that they would be using a 3rd landscaper and some money would go to chemicals (such as Roundup). When the 3rd man destroyed my ivy and the plants listed in my letter of August 5, 2014, they sent him home. Now there are only two men, the Galvan's, working. They did not bring in a 3rd person to help with the job that was to take 2 - 3 days to complete. I am still paying for 3 laborers, and now there only 2.  When they packed up around 3:00 PM, Mr. Galvan, Jr. said he would come back to remove the dead vines, ivy, etc. that had been sprayed and needed to be hauled away. When I called him about this, he refused to return and complete what he promised to do. He was rude and abusive on the phone, he had been threatening to my neighbor behind me, and the job, which was to take 2 - 3 days had been crammed into one incomplete day, and was awful. I would never recommend them to anyone. They are sheisters and prey on women, who they intimidate. I have reported them to the [redacted] in Botetourt who recommended them, with the suggestion to never recommend them to anyone else.
Please make sure that my complaint is published on the Revdex.com Website. I want everyone in the Valley to see how they operate. In fact, I'm tempted to post this on Face Book.

This is my rebuttal regarding the work done by German Galvan, Sr. and Jr.
I met with the Galvan's on Sunday afternoon, June 22, 2014. It  took about an hour explaining to them explicitly that I needed a thorough job cleaning my yard, all beds, cutting back ivy and vines (similar to Kudzoo, but smaller), trimming shrubs, thinning beds with bulbs, topping off the already-bloomed plants (ie, tulips, iris, etc.) removing all brush, and especially stressed not cutting or harming any plants, flowers, or shrubs. I pointed out shrubs, my newly planted shrubs and flowers,  and they acted like they knew what they were. (I know now they had no idea what was "good" and what was"bad.) They said there would be 3 men working, that they would also spray where needed, and showed me some pictures of their work. These pictures were of yards that were mowed and trimmed only.  It looked like Mr. Galvan, Sr. took notes, but his Spanish was not as good as the younger Galvan, so I don't know what he wrote down. We scheduled for them to come on Tuesday, June 24. My understanding was that this job would take anywhere from 2 to 3 days, and that I would be pleased with their work. They had been recommended by the [redacted] in Botetourt County. We  agreed on $950.00, which, at that time, I thought was a good price for 3 men, purchasing needed spray, and for 2 - 3 days of thorough work. There was lot that needed to be done  (I have since  talked to the owner of the [redacted] and suggested they not recommend them to anyone else.)
They arrived around 8:00 A.M. on the 24th, but when I went to see what was going on, Mr. Galvan, Jr. had already had a screaming match with my neighbor behind me, cursing and raising his fists at her. I immediately saw how my ivy had been chopped off with a weed eater, and I talked to them about this. The third man ruined the ivy, both along my rock wall and behind my deck. It was awful, but the Galvan's said they could fix it and would come back to remove the dead ivy that was sprayed when it turned brown. They also cut off four roses, used the weed eater to destroy a Beauty of Moscow Lilac I had just planted about a week before, two Silver Princess Shasta Daisy plants, and two Pink Muhly Grass plants. (They quickly sent the third man home) They had almost destroyed a wild rose  I had brought from my great grandmother's house about 15 years ago. I told them on the 22nd not to touch that rose bush. There were other items ruined by spraying that were not evident for a couple of days: six new Jersey Supreme Asparagus plants (from the spraying) had turned brown and died, all of my Digitalis Mountain mix and Oriental Poppies that were in a bed next to my small blue shed that I told them not to touch also died from spraying. They had just sprouted and I specifically told them not to touch that bed. Also the weird vine along my back fence apparently HAD NOT been sprayed, because it did not die and I had to get someone else to spray it for me. I had also told them I wanted weeds removed from beds (hand work), and when we discussed the job on the 22nd, they said they would do that...one reason they needed the third man.
When they said the job was done around 2:30 PM, I said ,"You said this would take 2 - 3 days and would be very thorough." Then they said they didn't say that. I told them the job was not finished. Besides the antique rose, only one other shrub (a Mock Orange) had been wacked on and it looked  awful. Mr. Galvan refused to trim the shrubs I pointed out, got very rude, and I did not like his temper. He said that would take too much time and they weren't coming back, and also refused to stay and do the "Hand work."  I reiterated what was discussed on the 22nd of June. He did say he would return in a few days to remove the dead ivy (from spraying) and would do additional clean up and hand-work.  They reduced the cost to $900.00 and I paid them. I should have stopped payment on the check immediately, but I believed they would come back and finish the job  to my satisfaction, and remove the dead ivy behind the deck and along the fence.
I would like a refund of no less than $500.00, as they did not complete the job to my satisfaction, were very aggressive and argumentative (which was scary), and refused to come back and remove the dead ivy (NOW for additional costs), and COMPLETE THE JOB. When I called Mr. Galvan, Jr. about the clean-up he promised to finish, he was very, very rude.  I had a friend visiting from California who witnessed the "walk-about" when we discussed the job to be done and how they "changed their tune,"  and she  would be glad to send you a statement or discuss this with you.
What bothers me the most is that we discussed this job thoroughly on the 22nd of June and then they changed it around on the 24th of June. I DO NOT want someone else to be treated and cheated in this manner.
I appreciate all the help I can get.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

Review: German Galvin, Sr. and German Galvin, Jr. came to my house on June 22, 2014, to talk to me about a large landscape/cleaning job, which would take 2 or 3 days to do. We went over the job in a very detailed way, and they said they would do a fantastic job. We agreed on $950.00 (which I thought was high, but 3 people were going to be working), and they would use weed killer in the larger areas not affected by plants and on the walks) to be paid in full when the job was completely done. They came on June 24, 2014, with a 3rd person to help them with the job. They were to clean ALL gardens, trim ALL shrubbery, do hand work to weed gardens, rake the leaves, clean vines from fences, and debris out of the gardens, all the time being careful not to destroy plants and shrubs. When I first saw their work, I was mortified. The 3rd, apparently unskilled, worker had destroyed the ivy along my rock wall and along the fence. He had cut down 2 of my roses, some of my hydrangea hedge, and had cut to the ground several other shrubs. I was very upset, but the Germans promised to make things right. The younger German also had a verbal fight with my neighbor across the fence. When they said they were finished, I did not agree, and the younger German became verbally abusive to me. They refused to do the hand work or rake the leaves remaining in the gardens as they had promised, nor to mow grass (all they wanted to use was a weed eater, which is not how to trim shrubbery and clean beds). I was fearful of the younger German, so I paid them $900.00 with the promise they would return in a few days to complete the job to my satisfaction. When I had not heard from them, I called last week, and the younger German was very rude and said the job was complete. IT WAS NOT! I have not heard further from them. Today, I reported to [redacted] in Botetourt County, VA, who recommended them, and suggested they never recommend them to anyone again. I feel they were trying to "get over" on a woman and will continue to do this.Desired Settlement: I am requesting a refund of no less than $500.00. They totally ripped me off, and have refused to make things right. I do not trust them, and am also fearful of the younger one, as he has a very bad temper. I also have a witness to the original interview and to the final job and how the Germans treated me.I appreciate your help in recovering at least $500.00 from them. Thanks.
