Garage Door ASAP Service Reviews (%countItem)

We first contacted Garage Door Asap Service during the Memorial Day weekend when one of our garage doors would not open properly. We had found their website online and they seemed to have good reviews on their site. We scheduled an appointment for Monday the 27th, but later that same day we called to cancel the appointment because the opener went back to working properly and we figured that the extreme heat might have simply been wreaking havoc on the electronics. By the evening of the 27th though the door went back to not fully raising so we decided we better have the company come out to look at the door. At this point we had to wait until Wednesday the 29th to get back onto their schedule. We were told on the phone that there would be a $95 service charge plus the cost of parts for repairs.
On Wednesday the 29th, our assigned technician Jimmy called ahead of our assigned service window to ask if it would be okay to arrive early, which it was. Jimmy inspected the door and made a recommendation that we definitely needed a new spring, which would cost $180 and new rollers which would cost $200. He also said that we would probably need a new opener in the not too distant future given the age of our current unit, but that the other parts would need to happen regardless of whether a new opener was installed or not. I agreed to having the $380 of parts installed and also asked him for a range on what a new opener would cost (for a chain drive between $350-600) so that our family could plan for that budget item in the near future. Jimmy was very polite and also offered to inspect the other working garage door while he was there. He made the suggestion that the spring on it really should be replaced too, and if both springs were replaced in the same day, there would be a $30 discount applied to each, but since our family had not discussed upgrading the working door prior to this service appointment, we decided not to do this elective work. Upon completion of his work Jimmy provided me with a receipt for the costs quoted and also wrote on the receipt that if we changed our minds on having the other spring and a new opener installed within 30 days we wouldn't have to pay the $95 service charge again. The receipt also showed that the parts had a 3 year warranty. When Jimmy left, I tested the repaired door and it opened and shut several times and I moved my car back into its spot in the garage. This was probably around 3:30 p.m.
Later that same evening (approximately 5:30 p.m.) the door was back to its previous state of not opening fully so we called Garage Door ASAP Service again to let them know that the door was no longer working, as it had been when the technician left, and we needed someone to come back out to the property to assess what needed to happen. The operator on the line said he would put us back on the schedule and that maybe someone would get there that night, but it would most likely be the next day (Thursday the 30th). The rest of the evening of the 29th passed with no call, and then all of the 30th passed with no call and no repair. I made sure to stay home all day on the 30th waiting for a technician to come back to fix our door.
At this point we were concerned that we were dealing with a unreliable company, since they didn't follow up to review their work as promised, so we took the recommendation of a friend to contact a different company. This company scheduled us for early on Saturday the 1st and told us that there would be a $20 service charge and a written estimate for any work to be performed. The second company showed us as part of their inspection that the new spring was the incorrect one for our door because the door was not balanced and would either try to slam down or fly back when not attached to the opener chain. As a result of their inspection we had to replace the new parts we had just replaced along with a new opener because the current one had burn marks on the wires and could have proven to be a fire hazard.
We've taken the time to write this review for several reasons. Having never utilized the services of a garage door company in our 6.5 years of home ownership in Central Florida (we moved to this area from Ohio) we wanted to let other consumers know that we paid too much for a service call with Garage Door ASAP Service, $95, given what other competing companies were offering as a service call charge. Further, although we agreed to the costs of equipment prior to repairs being made, the costs were too high in light of the fact that the incorrect equipment was installed. Finally, when a company offers a warranty on their parts but fails to follow through on sending a technician to the property (as promised), it is of great concern. Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) certainly applies with this company. We threw $475 away on our experience with them- don't make the same mistake.

Agreed to have them install a new garage door opener. Price is $535.00 this was $450. for opener installation plus $85. for service call. I gave them $250. deposit the following day we changed our mind. They said we'd have to pay the $85. service call either way buy the balance of the $250. which is $165. would be refunded. That someone would stop by with the check. This was last week it's been 7 days no one has come by.

Desired Outcome

Refund I want my $165.
