On May 27th I took my 2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale in for a warranty fork seal replacement on the right side fork. This was a new bike that I purchased in March 2014. The technician replaced the right side fork and proceeded to replace the left side fork seal as a part of the warranty work. The left side did not have any issues prior to the work being done. I took pictures of the forks before the work was done and the pictures show that the right side was in fact leaking and the left side was fine. During the service, the tech informed me that there was damage to the left side lower stanchion and that it was caused by a rock getting wedged under the seal. This damage left the lower stanchion coating scratched and a gouge in the metal that ran the length of the tube. I took a photo of the tech holding the stanchion with the damaged area clearly visible. The tech also informed me that the damaged part was originally behind the front fender. After riding the bike home (140 miles back to [redacted] NC) I discovered that the fork and lower fairing were covered in leaked fork oil. Upon further investigation I learned that the damage could only have been caused by metal scribe being used to remove the fork seal. I contacted the dealership owner and sent him all the before and after photos. The owner refused to accept responsibility for the mistake of his tech. He went on to blame a rock, road debris, or the possibility that something fell against the fork and damaged it. I pointed out that it is not possible for a rock to get wedged under the seal, and if something were to have fallen against the fork, then the front fender would have been damaged as it was covering the area according to his tech. I also sent him the photos showing that the damage is not linear but rather it curves down the length of the tube, which is not consistent with an object getting wedged under the seal because the fork does not rotate while installed on the bike. Despite my photographic evidence, the owner refuses to accept responsibility for the mistake his tech made while working on the left side fork. The attached photos show the original condition of the fork, the damaged section, the fork leaking oil as it sits stationary, and lastly a clear picture of the gouge in the metal.Desired SettlementPay for damagesCase Closed SATISFIED 2014-08-16Amendment to previous complaint.This notice is not a complaint. After further deliberation with the staff at GarciaMoto, the owner decided to make the situation right. I reported an issue with my front fork on a new bike purchase from GarciaMoto. Initially I met with resistance from the owner, but after many looks at the circumstances surrounding the issue; GarciaMoto decided to cover the repairs to the front fork. I was very surprised that the dealership didn't simply write it off as nothing, but instead took the time to accurately and thoroughly review the details regarding the front fork damage. This business has in my opinion exercised due diligence and professionalism in taking multiple looks at the fork issue. I will continue to recommend them to others, as well as bring my business to them. Consumer's Desired Resolution:None...issue resolved.
