Garden State Readers Service Reviews (14)

So I get a call today 7/24/2018 from a mediator company saying I owe $204 for a subscription back in 2009. This is a first I heard of me owing anything. Now they want to take me to court. I'm uncertain of I owe anything or if this is a scam.

Review: I recieved a phone call one day from Garden State Readers at work offering so many monthly magazines for a certain price. I went ahead & decided to give it a try, chose some magazine that sounded interesting for my family & I. It turns out, we keep getting these magazine in the mail & they just sit there until someone throws them in the garbage, they never get read or utilized, anyof them. So, I figure, call & cancel the whole thing, it's a waste of money. I just called Garden State Readers directly & the representative then proceeded to let me know that I entered into some kind of contract with them & the subscriber for like 2 1/2 years? I did no such thing, I would have never agreed to the product if I had realized that was part of the agreement, to get magazines for that amount of time, that's ridiculous. When I let the representative know that was the case, That I would have never signed something like that with that amount of time, she stated that they tape the conversations. I would like to hear that conversation where I agreed to 2 1/2 years of magazine subscriptions. I just think it is a scam & then they oh by the way let you know all of the sudden, that it's a contract. I have an issue with doing business like that.Desired Settlement: I would simply like the magazines to completly stop coming & cancel the whole thing. I don't wish to return any magazine, no refunds, nothing except a cancellation effective immediately. Thank you.

Review: Today I called to cancel my subscription before it was due to start in May. I was told that my subscription could not be cancelled although it could be lowered to 3 years. I refused that option and again requested that my subscription be cancelled. The representative told me that there was a recorded phone call made to me in March for the 1st payment and to inform me that the service would begin May 1st. At that time I gave my credit card information for the first payment and I was never told that the conversation was being recorded. During that phone call I was also told that the service included a 30 day free trial to a privacy service and a discount service. The information came in the mail and stated that the [redacted] would be billed each month at $14.95 and the [redacted] would be billed each month at a rate of $18.95. I also received the information for the magazine service which stated that I would only be receiving 5 subscriptions (only 7-10 issues of each) at a rate of $17.20 each month. I knew immediately that I wouldn't be interested in these services at these prices. I gathered all the information and started to make the phone calls to cancel when I realized that all of the services listed the same address. I called to cancel all of the services and was told that I would have to call back for each service. The first call I made was to [redacted] and I was left on hold for a total of 11 minutes (waiting for a receptionist, then waiting for a transfer, then waiting on my information to populate since the system had crashed). She stated that there was no charge appearing on my account so she couldn't refund me the $18.95 and she couldn't provide me with a confirmation number of cancellation. The only service that the company refused to cancel was the magazine subscription. I never gave them any type of permission to charge my credit card monthly for 5 years. And they never stated that there was no option of cancelling.Desired Settlement: I would like my $18.95 refunded for the [redacted] service that was drafted on April 14, 2015 along with the $17.20 charge from [redacted] that was drafted on March 2, 2015. I would also like confirmation that all three services have been cancelled and that there will be no more charges made to my credit card. I have not received any services from [redacted], Capital Magazine Service, [redacted], or U[redacted].

Review: I subscribed to a magazine subscription and received the magazine for quite some time. After a period of time my financial situation changed and I called customer service to cancel my subscription. They refused to cancel. I called again to cancel subscription and again they refused and said they could not

cancel the subscription for me and said that I must pay. I told them this was the second attempt that I

had made to cancel the subscription and that I would pay the charges that were due up to that date but, no more and any further magazines which I received would just be a gift.

Now they have turned it over to a collection agency [redacted] in [redacted] and I am now being harassed by them.

I feel that I did everything I could to handle this situation with Garden State Reader and I know that it is possible to cancel any kind of subscription at anytime and I feel they did not work with me and I don't intend to pay this.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.Desired Settlement: For them to get my account back from the Collection agency and then to cancel my subscription like I asked them to in the first place.

Review: Get a call to my parents house which I have not lived in for over 15 years stating I will be taken to court due to non payment. I called the magazines and haven't received them in years. I don't believe I was informed that my call was being recorded at the time either.Desired Settlement: I want my credit card refunded for the monies of past due payment.

Review: I keep recieving magazine subscriptions issued through Keystone Circulation that I never authorized. I then have to contact the magazine (Parenting and Vogue) to cancel the subscription, but I'm told that Keystone can still bill me for these subscriptions. I have tried to contact Keystone Circulation repeatedly, but only get an answering service. I leave a message, but no one ever returns the call.Desired Settlement: Cancel all subscriptions and do not subscribe me to any magazines without my permission.

Ms.[redacted] contacted our office on September 23, 2013 and per her request we sent a cancel to the publishers on her behalf and we have removed her name from any current subscriptions she may be receiving as well as future offers.

Ms. [redacted] was pre-selected to receive a subscriptions to Vogue and Parenting School Yrs magazine. She was not billed for them.

People were selected to receive them from a combined list of past subscribers, shoppers and even in town/cities where the magazine needs readers.

She may still receive a couple more issues of these magazines do to the fact that magazines pre label in

advance.

Review: They claim I order a magazine from them and didn't pay them. I do have magazines I ordered put it was paid off in March, they were taking it out of my account monthly. I am not sure if it was the same company. Never got a bill from them before yesterday witch was from a collection place. So I called and they said I gave them my credit card # so therefore it should have been paid. I do not remember ordering more magazines and why would I if I was already getting them.

The Name of the collection agency is Interstate Recovery Service. [redacted] Please Help Me, My husband has a lung dicease and only has maybe three years or less plus he just had open heart and we don't have much money to be paying out to something I didn't order.Desired Settlement: I want them to not have it in collections and so it doesn't make my credit worse.

Review: I received a magazine (Allure) subscription that I did NOT order. I'm very upset that this company has my personal information which was NOT authorized and subscribed me to a magazine without my consent that I haven't and never want to read let alone subscribe to. I have never heard of this company before and I only got their information when I called the magazine to see how I got a subscription. And they told me I have to contact this company. And when I tried I was sent to a voicemail and made me very nervous that I am being scammed.Desired Settlement: I wish for my information to be completely removed from their database and the subscription to stop ASAP.

Review: Received a phone call from a lady by the name of [redacted] with [redacted] of Ohio regarding a collection that was filed against me by Garden State Readers in the amount of $132.47. I have never heard of Garden State Readers nor do I recall receiving magazines. According to [redacted] it was almost 10 years ago. I would have been under age 18 at this time. This is 100% fraudulent activity. I find it very suspicious that a magazine company would also have my Social Security Number. I have submitted a complaint to the [redacted] also and received a return email with 10 ways to avoid fraud. What is wrong with people that they try and take advantage of single parent families who are just making ends meet the way it is.Desired Settlement: I want explanation of why I owe this money and at what point these magazines were supposedly distributed and who authorized them. Being a minor at that time, I should not be held responsible for any charges if I did not agreed to this.

Response:

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. Our records show that Ms. [redacted] placed a magazine order with us in June 2005. She ordered [redacted], [redacted], and [redacted] for a 24 month service and agreed to pay $15.96 each month for 12 consecutive months. Ms. [redacted] also gave us a relatives name of [redacted], In [redacted], and asked us to send her some promotional magazine titles. Ms. [redacted] paid her first payment with a check over the phone with check number #[redacted] and then asked us to continue electronically deducting her monthly payment through this same checking account. In November 2005, Ms. [redacted] payment was returned from her bank for Insufficient funds and then in December 2005 her checking account closed. Her account remains unpaid for services received. Please have Ms. [redacted] contact our office directly at ###-###-####. Thank You for your time in this matter.

Review: was told I could cancel at any time. I did numerous times & they continue to charge & bill me.

Sent everything to collection & they will only settle with legal dept. Called company & they refuse to work with me at all. said I could not cancel & they signed me up for 2 accounts.

The company name I thought I was dealing with was [redacted] for 1 year, I did fulfill that obligation. Now Legal says they are [redacted].

Can not provide me with copies of anything.Desired Settlement: would like everything to be cancelled ASAP & than I will pay 2 monthly payments of $100 to cover the $200 (that legal offered) if everything stops.

Review: I started receiving Magazine subscriptions in the mail this week that I had never signed up for. One such magazine was [redacted] Magazine. I contacted [redacted] Magazine to cancel the subscription and was told that the subscription had originated with a company called Keystone Circulation Services and would have to be canceled through them, she also said this was the second such complaint she had received today. When I tried to contact the company I was conveniently given an automated message that said to leave even more of my personal information in order to get a return phone call. I never submitted my information to this company nor did I ever authorize them to open a magazine subscription in my name.Desired Settlement: I would like the subscription to [redacted] Magazine to be cancelled. I would like any other subscriptions that I do not know about to be cancelled (and I would like to know what they are). I also would like to know how my information was given to this company and where the subscriptions originated from. After this is done, I would like all of my personal information to be removed from Keystone Circulation Services.
