Garland Water Utilities over charge customers for non consumption
After calling customer service I was informed that since I have a sprinkler account and water account that I could suspend the water account until it's used again since there's been no consumption since October 2018. Garland has been charging me $36.80 since October on a 0 consumption account for the last 4 years. No one ever mentioned this fact even when setting up this account. They offered no concession or credit. Customers should be aware!!!

Desired Outcome

I would like a credit on the water account for all the months there was 0 consumption

Water leak fix. GPL refuses to do a credit to the account stating we had a credit done less than a year.I spoke with a rep who said it was over a year
Our town home unit had a water leak that took the complex forever to fix. We previously had the issue and had to have garland power and light do a credit to lower the bill since it was not our fault. The first issue was in April of 2017. We now have had the issue again and I spoke with a rep at garland power who also told me they could do a credit because it's been longer than a year, we soon got a bill for 1400 stating that they refuse to do a credit bc it hasn't been a year. I called and asked what was going on the woman my wife and I spoke to stated she didn't know what the other rep was talking about and that she was wrong and that we have to pay the full amount now even though it was not our fault there was a leak.

Credit to account to lower bill cost.

After reviewing the account record, it was determined that the customer would be eligible for a water leak adjustment after providing documentation that the leak had been repaired. Our records indicate that we recently received the required documentation. A credit of approximately $400.00 is being applied to the customer's account in accordance with our established policy. Our staff will also work with the customer to establish a payment plan for the remaining balance.

Garland Power and Light is the worst electric company I have ever worked with. They charge so much per kilowatt that my bill is consistently over 300 dollars a month for a 3 bedroom home. We do not over use our power. Our HVAC system has not been running for 2 months, yet our bill is still over 300 dollars. Customer services does not actually help customers.

The bills in question include charges for several utility services provided by the City of Garland, including electricity, water, sewer, solid waste collection, and storm water management, although electricity frequently accounts for the largest portion of charges. Billing history for the account shows two monthly bills with utility service charges totaling over $300.00. In both cases the charge for the electricity portion was less than $300.00. Both of these occurred during winter billing periods when the average temperature for the billing period was 45 to 46 degrees. Many of our other customers who have electric heating systems also experienced similar increases in usage and billing amounts during the past winter, corresponding to colder weather, and most likely due to increased operation of heating systems to maintain warmth inside homes.

We have no record of the customer contacting the Customer Service Department regarding any billing issues for this account, which was established in late 2016.

Company has stated that 400 gallons of water has been used which is not possible asked company to send someone out to check meter no response.
Spoke with company about water bill $500 bill has been paid on time every month not late fees company claims 400 gallons of water has been used at unit asked company to send someone to check meter no response asked to speak with manager will not let me speak to manager asked landlord to check for leaks no leaks seen around unit.

Desired Outcome

to look and see why the bill is constantly going up every month started from $100-$120 a month to $500 there is no way i use 400 gallons of water within a month this company cheats many of people with the same problem.

After additional discussions between Customer Service staff and the customer, it was determined that the landlord's maintenance staff had recently repaired a toilet that had been using excess water. Follow-up meter readings showed no indication of a leak and water consumption had returned to a more normal level. A credit adjustment was then applied to the bill to reflect the impact of the problem with the toilet. The customer has indicated that she is satisfied that the issue has been resolved.

I don't understand how they're protected by some Texas constitutional law that allows them to monopolize the city's power; it's ludicrous. It's very frustrating as they don't have to be competitive at all.

Deregulation: Garland billing and rates are outrages all the other surrounding cities are deregulated. We can't setup arrangements the despoitare high
This company ridiculous , its very sad we have to stick with this horrible company the bills are extremely high we can't change provider's can't setup arrangements deposits are outrages and I'm told there's nothing I can do but pay it or get my lights shut of. Everyone that lives and garland isn't rich. Please allow me switch too whatever provider I want i'm literally one street over from Mesquite who is deregulated. What crazy is these guys charge so much for their rates but offers no resources. Please Help to make Garland a deregulated community
