Garrett Sign Reviews (2)

[redacted] ordered a custom built electric building sign for his [redacted] franchise. Garrett Sign Company provided funding, fabrication, and installation after [redacted] accepted a full maintenance rental agreement in which he would make a monthly rental payment until the...

obligation was complete. [redacted] states in his review that his business had changed and he no longer needed the sign anymore. [redacted] took [redacted]’s franchise from him. His review speaks of us destroying a sign he purchased. The sign in question were two tenant panels displaying the [redacted] logo which were in the shopping center’s multi-tenant sign. Since it was unauthorized for [redacted] to display the [redacted] image any longer, the landlord was left with the responsibility to hire Garrett Sign to immediately remove the vinyl lettering from the tenant panels after being contacted by [redacted] headquarters. Although at that point we had not recouped the original cost of investing in [redacted], we listened to his needs and discussed the possibility of restructuring his agreement with a replacement sign which could possibly have a monthly payment comparable to the original sign. We also offered him the option to satisfy his obligation. [redacted] asked that we allow him two months of relief from his monthly payments to reorganize and rebrand his agency. We reluctantly agreed to temporarily suspend his payment with the condition he bring his account current after the two months. The two months passed and [redacted] informed us that he would not bring his account current until he received a deal with a replacement sign that would benefit him.  We spent many hours and resources attempting to design a replacement sign that met his budget and one that had to conform to the sign criteria for the shopping center. We could not meet his budget and an agreement was not concluded. [redacted] then posted negative comments about our company online attacking our reputation. We chose to be proactive and contacted him directly in an attempt to resolve his delinquency and suggested we contact his landlord to request they might consider a simpler design that [redacted] could possibly afford. While working on his behalf negotiating an addendum to his sign requirements with the shopping center owners, [redacted] informed us in writing he had removed some of the negative online comments and that if our company didn't meet his budget terms he would go back online and make more bad reviews. His correspondence clearly stated his intent was he would hold our reputation hostage. In summary, [redacted] freely entered into the rental agreement when it benefited him. He had the opportunity to have legal council or the franchisor review any of his business agreements before he made final commitments. Garrett Sign had no obligation to extend [redacted] any further credit or to produce another sign for him. Our only responsibility was to execute the performance of the original agreement until its termination. [redacted] had no obligation to do any further business with our company. Garrett Sign acted in good faith, invested in [redacted] and has fulfilled our ethical and contractual obligations. [redacted] has not fulfilled his contractual obligations, and by his own actions became delinquent, he has breached the agreement and unfortunately became a collection account. Online reviews not only provide a legitimate method of critiquing a product or service which we as consumers can all benefit from, it can also be used in the minds of some people as a weapon. Garrett Sign has been serving the Pacific Northwest for over 70 years. Our reputation is our future and it is very important to us. A visit to our website at www.garrettsign.com will show hundreds of projects that we have performed, anyone of which may be use as a reference as to our satisfied customers. Although we will not be doing further business with [redacted], we wish him the best going forward and hope that he might find resolutions to his problems.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:There are quite a few things that are inaccurate with the
business’ response:
 -
There was no “franchise”. Not sure where Garrett
Sign is getting this term, but it’s not applicable.-
Since there was no franchise, there was no
franchise to be taken away from me.-
Garrett Sign isn’t the governing authority
determining whether or not I am authorized to display a sign.-
I paid in full for the sign that Garrett Sign
destroyed, it belonged to me.-
I was the one that originally contacted them
about redoing the contract.  I was the one that was proactive in trying to fix the situation.-
Jim at Garrett Sign is the one that told me to
send them an email stating that they are no longer authorized to charge my bank
account until new terms are negotiated.
They acknowledged this, yet proceeded to charge my bank account every
month since then.-
They are the ones that would frequently take up
to two weeks to return a phone call or email.-
They are the ones that are unethically doubling
up on maintenance and interest charges for a new sign.-
After months of dealing with Garrett Sign and
getting no where with them, I left negative reviews.-
After I posted the negative reviews, Jim
randomly showed up at my office. We had a good discussion and he was going to
put together a new estimate for a sign.
To date, I haven’t received that estimate.  I get a random call one day and Jim was
asking me to take down the negative reviews before he talks with the owner
about prices for the new sign.  In good
faith, I removed the negative reviews that I could.   Some time passed and I get an email from Jim
stating that he will no longer be working with me and that I’ll have to work
with the owner.  I responded and told him
to have the owner contact me asap.  To
date, I’ve never heard from the owner.
Jim and Garrett Sign have failed to follow through on what they said
they would do, so the negative reviews went back up.-
Garrett Sign is the one that has stalled, taking
weeks each time to respond to calls, emails and put together estimates. Garrett
Sign is the one that hasn’t followed through on what they said they would do.
Garrett Sign is the one that is putting together unethical contracts and
doubling up on charges to customers. Garrett Sign is the one who took advantage
of the good faith that I extended to them trying to work with them to make the
situation better.-
I’ve given Garrett Sign plenty of time to put
together a fair deal, but they are the ones taking advantage of me and hold me
hostage because they know they have me backed into a corner with the current agreement.-
Supposedly the owner of Garrett Sign is the
decision maker on everything, however I’ve only directly dealt with Jim. Not
sure if all of this is Jim’s fault or the inability of the owner to run an
ethical operation that responds in a reasonable period of time and treats their
clients fairly.-
If it’s a collection account then why is Garrett
Sign still doing unauthorized transactions out of my bank account?-
Garrett Sign has already been paid by myself a
total amount that is in excess of the cost they have into the sign, and in excess of what the sign would have cost to buy it outright.-
Garrett Sign has failed to fulfill the current
agreement by not providing the biannual cleanings to the sign that have been
requested but never performed.
Sincerely,
[redacted]
