I'm writing this e-mail in response to the complaint that was made by *** *** on March 30, The ID number for this case is: ***Sorry for my untimely response, on top of my job I'm also a new mother and a student.
*** *** moved into unit of my motel on March 13, After she had spent a few days in the room she informed me that she had gone to the emergency room due to what she believed were bed bug bitesAs soon as Ms*** informed me of this I immediately went to her room and began checking for bugsI was able to positively identify that bed begs were in fact in the roomI informed her that I was going to the store right then to buy bed bug protectors for the mattress, box spring and pillowsAs I was leaving she asked me if I could buy some Benadryl to help the itching and swelling from the bitesI told her that I could definitely do that (and did)We also discussed the fact that she was supposed to be picking up some medications for the bitesI told her I could cover the cost of the meds once she provided me with a receiptWhen I asked her what type of meds she was prescribed for the bites and she informed me that there was an anti-inflammatory steroid and antibioticsI asked her why she would be prescribed antibiotics for bug bites seeing as how those are meant to treat bacterial infectionsShe then began to stutter and added quickly that the antibiotics were for something unrelated to the bitesYet she had tried to get me to pay for them anyway and I would have had I not asked her why they prescribed them to her.
After putting the covers on the bed and pillows I gave her clean, fresh linens and even offered to wash her personal blanketsShe declined and said she would do that herselfThat same day I also treated her room with diatomaceous earth (non-toxic bug killer) and ordered bed bug traps from Amazon.com that arrived three days later (not one week as Ms*** claims)I also gave Ms*** a $discount on her rent that week for the inconveniences. After everything had been treated and covered Ms*** did not have anymore fresh bites that showed up on her skinI kept in contact with her everyday during this time, asking if any new bites had shown up...none hadDuring this time Ms*** developed a very self entitled attitude about her room and began asking for new furniture and appliancesOn March she came into my office and informed me that she would not be paying rent until the situation had been taken care ofShe said this even though she didn't have any new bites that had shown upI had even offered to move her into a different room but she said she really liked the set up of the room she was in and declined the offer.
On March Ms*** came into my office and told me that she was going to contact a lawyer because she wasn't getting what "she was entitled to." I asked her what more she wanted me to do and she couldn't come up with any valid reasons but said again that she was due compensation and wanted to contact a lawyerI told her that there was nothing more I could do for her and since she was threatening legal action against me I could no longer have her stay at the motelI wanted to talk to her civilly about when she needed to be out of the room but before I could say anything else she said, "Girl, you're gonna regret that st" and stormed out of my officeAs she stomped back to her room I called out to her and told her she needed to be out that nightRegardless of what the situation is I do not deserve to be threatened.
Ms*** claims that she wants to be compensated for her hospital billsI paid for her medication as we had previously agreed on and I believe that is payment enoughMs*** cannot prove that the sole reason she went to the ER was for the bed bug bites as she was prescribed antibiotics(which she tried to get me to wrongfully pay for), meaning she was there for another reason as well.As for her wanting to be paid compensation for her pain and suffering, I bought all of her meds that she needed to treat the bites and did everything I could to make her comfortableI would also like to add that I do not see a fit reason to pay for her laundry bill as I also offered to wash her items for herMs*** had no obligation to stay at Gartons motel and did so by her own free willIf she was so miserable she could have left at any point.
Lastly, I would like to add that a guest had been staying in that room directly before her for several weeks and there were no complaints about bed bugs during that time and given the fact that she brought in her own personal bedding I have suspicion that she could have brought the bed bugs in herselfRegardless of whether or not that can be proven I know that I did everything that could be done to take care of the problem and no bugs have been seen since then.Sincerely,
