My mother suffered a stroke in April 2016. As a result she was unable to use her left side despite physical therapy and needed to be moved with a Hoyer lift. We were forced to make a decison regarding long term care. After much deliberation we decided that Gaslight Village Assisted Living was our best option. I am a nurse and was surprised that assisted living was an option. She needed total care except for feeding. I was assured that their staffing was adequate and they were trained to provide the care my mother needed. My family was actively involved and visited my mother multiple times each day. The staff did not follow the directions of the physical therapists and her condition deteriorated in the first month. The agency called a meeting to inform us that my mother's level of care had increased and effective that day we would need to pay an additional $400/month. They also suggested that we be referred to hospice for additional care. My mother suffered severe pain as a result of the stroke and pain management was a huge issue. They provided a visiting nurse, and aide for personal care and a social worker. So we were not not only paying Gaslight more but they were providing less care. My mother was left in urine soaked bedding for hours. Her call light was left unanswered for more than an hour on several occasions (I was there, watching the clock). Many of the staff were very caring but others were not. Mother became afraid to ask for help and asked us not to complain. We made the decision at the end of the second month to care for her at home and gave them the 30 days notification they required. We moved on the 21st day leaving her TV to be moved later (we were paiduntil the end of the month). When my family returned for the TV another woman was moved into her room. They were charging both my mother and this woman for the same room! [redacted] lied when she assured me that they had adequate staffing to provide the care my mother needed.
