Gateway Classic Cars of Indianapolis Reviews (7)

On Sept.25th ,I purchased a vehicle from Gateway Classic cars ( a replica of a Ford Cabriolet)I drove several states to reach the location prior to purchasing the vehicleGateway Classic cars had the vehicle on their showroom floor for months before I looked at the carI asked several questions about the vehicle which I expected to have honest answer to before I made the trip out to see the vehicle One of the questions I asked was "Did the air conditioning work?" The Salesman ,Doug ***l, stated "yes, we just went for a drive the other day and it was blowing nice and cold"This was impossible for him to state as true because when I got out there we could not get the air vents to open because he didn't even know where they were(they are vacuum operated) and no vacuum was EVER supplied to the vent operation systemNext we couldn't get the A/C compressor to even engageAfter inspection we noticed that the A/C compressor wasn't even hooked up and hadn't been for many yearsThe electrical connection had been removed and no sign of where it originally connectedI questioned him on this and didn't receive an answerCome to find out after I got the car home(it was shipped), the compressor was seized upSo how he got cold air coming out of the vents when he didn't even know where the vents were nor how to operate and with the compressor disconnected and seized is a wonder to me! Next I asked about the frame and he stated " the car only has miles on it , that's is all perfectafter noticing some cracks in the paint around the frame, he assured me all was goodWrongafter driving the car when we got home I noticed a problem with the front end, took it in to have it inspected and quess whatthe frame has a crack in it! $to fix that lieAlso noted at the inspection facility that only the front brakes were functioning and that both inner tie rod ends and one outer tie rod end was completely worn outThe inspection officer signed a statement that the vehicle has WAY more that miles on it! I showed him the title from the previous owner and the officer is undergoing an investigation with the state of Indiana for mileage fraud Many other misrepresentations were made in writing and verbally to me from Gateway classic cars about this vehicleIf you look at the submitted sales sheet it touts this car as SHOW and GO readyToo Many other problems with this vehicle to go into we found after getting the car home but this vehicle isn't even legally driveable in this stateI am NOT asking for any money to be returned, mainly from seeing on other complaints that the company will just hide behind the form of "AS IS"I understand that I purchased it "AS IS" but I also expected to have honest answers to simple questions especially on a vehicle that they had in their possession for a quarter of a YEAR! After this experience with this company and seeing the other complaints , it is obvious there is a trend going on hereI would not recommend purchasing from here or any other Gateway Classic car location across the countryI notified Doug ***l , the salesman I worked with, that I would be submitting this to the Indiana Revdex.com

Mr*** bought a vehicle from our Indianapolis Showroom by doing a trade for a Dodge Challenger we had consignedHe traded in his Ford which was shipped to our Orlando Showroom, as it was closest for him and saved him money on shipping costUpon arrival of his vehicle we were asked what we thought of the condition, and being honest, informed him that the paint was not what we expectedIt had a lot of orange peel and dirt in the paintWe told him that the deal was done and we should be able to break even, so not ideal but no harm no foulUpon his receipt of the Challenger we started getting emails about how he was disappointed and wanted us to give him $(at the last email) to correct these issues, including sand marks in the paintI told him that it is AS IS, WHERE IS for both sides, and although neither party was happy with the transaction, the sale was final and we would not be asking him for money back for the things we aren't happy with, and we won't be giving him money back for the things he isn't happy withHe fired off one more angry email stating he would file a complaint with the Revdex.com, and here we areGateway Classic Cars is open days a week to the public for people to come in and view vehicles before making offers or purchasing, or to send a third party inspector in on their behalfAll of our sales are completed AS IS, WHERE IS with NO WARRANTY express or implied and are considered to be final at the time the contracts are signed and payment is madeAttached to this response you will see the pages where Mr*** signed stating he understood that the vehicle was AS IS, WHERE IS with NO WARRANTY including a Buyer's Guide required by the state which clearly shows NO WARRANTY as wellWe are not willing to give Mr*** any financial consideration on this sale but will happily consign the Challenger and sell it for him since he is so dissatisfied with itThis way he can recoup him money and buy something else, from someone elseWe will even waive our initial consignment fee so the sale of his Challenger will not cost him a penny

On Sept.25th ,2015 I purchased a vehicle from Gateway Classic cars ( a 2002 replica of a 1934 Ford Cabriolet). I drove several states to reach the location prior to purchasing the vehicle. Gateway Classic cars had the vehicle on their showroom floor for 3 months before I looked at the car. I asked several questions about the vehicle which I expected to have honest answer to before I made the trip out to see the vehicle.
One of the questions I asked was "Did the air conditioning work?" The Salesman ,Doug [redacted]l, stated "yes, we just went for a drive the other day and it was blowing nice and cold". This was impossible for him to state as true because when I got out there we could not get the air vents to open because he didn't even know where they were. (they are vacuum operated) and no vacuum was EVER supplied to the vent operation system. Next we couldn't get the A/C compressor to even engage. After inspection we noticed that the A/C compressor wasn't even hooked up and hadn't been for many years. The electrical connection had been removed and no sign of where it originally connected. I questioned him on this and didn't receive an answer. Come to find out after I got the car home(it was shipped), the compressor was seized up. So how he got cold air coming out of the vents when he didn't even know where the vents were nor how to operate and with the compressor disconnected and seized is a wonder to me!
Next I asked about the frame and he stated " the car only has 1500 miles on it , that's is all perfect. after noticing some cracks in the paint around the frame, he assured me all was good. Wrong... after driving the car when we got home I noticed a problem with the front end, took it in to have it inspected and quess what... the frame has a crack in it! $1400 to fix that lie. Also noted at the inspection facility that only the front brakes were functioning and that both inner tie rod ends and one outer tie rod end was completely worn out. The inspection officer signed a statement that the vehicle has WAY more that 1500 miles on it! I showed him the title from the previous owner and the officer is undergoing an investigation with the state of Indiana for mileage fraud.
Many other false misrepresentations were made in writing and verbally to me from Gateway classic cars about this vehicle. If you look at the submitted sales sheet it touts this car as SHOW and GO ready. Too Many other problems with this vehicle to go into we found after getting the car home but this vehicle isn't even legally driveable in this state. I am NOT asking for any money to be returned, mainly from seeing on other complaints that the company will just hide behind the form of "AS IS". I understand that I purchased it "AS IS" but I also expected to have honest answers to simple questions especially on a vehicle that they had in their possession for a quarter of a YEAR!
After this experience with this company and seeing the other complaints , it is obvious there is a trend going on here. I would not recommend purchasing from here or any other Gateway Classic car location across the country. I notified Doug [redacted]l , the salesman I worked with, that I would be submitting this to the Indiana Revdex.com.

Gateway Classic Cars of Indianapolis deceptively and fraudulently represented a car I purchased from them and have refused accountability or restitution. Upon delivery of this car and during the first driving experience, we noticed a caustic oil burn and smell in the cab of the vehicle. After returning home, we discovered a major oil leak (which was leaking and burning directly on the exhaust pipes) and major frame damage/cracks which were not divulged by Gateway. We have owned the car for 6 months which time it has spent entirely in repair shops; correcting the frame/axle damage and currently rebuilding the engine.

Mr. [redacted] was contacted by our Business Development Team,  to Consign his truck to our company for Sale.  We sent, via email, a checklist that laid out the condition and criteria his truck must meet in order to be consigned into one of our showrooms.  Included in this list is the...

requirement that "the vehicle must not have any rust issues."  We also advised the cus[redacted]er during phone conversations, prior to him shipping the truck, of the same policy. Mr. [redacted] assured us that there were no rust issues.   When the truck arrived at our showroom, an inspection was performed by our staff.  The inspection revealed a significant amount of rust under the truck including areas that were completely rusted through.  The cus[redacted]er was contacted and told that his truck did not meet our condition standards.   Mr. [redacted] called me the next day and asked me to pay for the cost of his shipping to our showroom.  I told him that we had went over the condition criteria prior to him shipping the truck, and because the truck did not meet our condition standards, we could not keep it.  I also advised him that we could not pay for the shipping as this was his responsibility and cost.  At that time he said he was going to contact his lawyer and the conversation ended. We are the largest classic and exotic car Consignment Sales Company in the US with 9-showrooms throughout the US. We only accept and consign good to excellent quality cars for Sale.   In this case we were not given an accurate description of the vehicle.   Please advise if we can be further assistance.   Joe E[redacted] Business Development Manager Gateway Classic Cars [redacted]
