Gateway Community College Reviews (2)

Review: On April 10, 2013, I registered for Gateway community college (summer classes), a week went by and I didnt get a response so I called, I was told that it will take another week to review my applications (they said that they were low on staff, because of a lot of cuts), I called a week later and they said that they made a mistake and erased my application so I had to submit it again. After submitting it again I waited another week for the application to be processed, once the application was processed I submitted my Fafsa application for the summer on 4/30/13. On 5/2/13 I received an email from FAFSA letting me know that it was processed succesfully, I called the school and they told me that since they were short on staff it would take a few weeks to be processed. Finally on 5/17/13 they processed it (made a correction), on 5/20/13 I accepted the corrections. On May 30th I received an email letting me know that I was going to be taken out of my summer classes if I didnt pay because my FAFSA was not processed yet, therefore I had to make a personal payment until my FAFSA was approved. I went personally to the financial services office at Gateway and they told me that the person in charge of approving it was on vacation May 27th June 5th, so if I wanted to still take my summer classes I had to pay the $1,500 that it costed and that I would be refunded once they processed my FAFSA.I decided to pay with my rent money the $1,500, on Wednesday June 5th I went back to the school since the person from Financial Services was back from vacation to make sure that she processed my fafsa application, and I was told that since she corrected the FAFSA form after the deadline for a FAFSA application, I could no longer get financial aid for the summer.I inmediatelly went to the bursar office to withdraw from my classes to make sure that I get my money back $1,500 to pay for my rent, and was told that since the summer sessions started on June 3rd I could no longer get any money back

Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Refund

I would like to get the $1,500 that I paid for summer classes refunded, since the Gateway Community College staff failed to complete my application and financial aid on time being the reason why the deadline passed. I submitted all the paperwork on time, but they didn't comply with the deadlines. Review: I have called and emailed Gateway CC 5 times in the last 2 weeks. I have left detailed voicemails regarding my concern, and still no one has bothered to call me back to respond t me in any fashion whatsoever. I am currently a student at Penn State, a 20 year veteran using my GI Bill to further my education. I am pursuing a psychology major. I took a psychology class in the Fall of 1988 at Gateway, and was told by Penn State that to see if this was their equivalent of an Intro to Psychology Course, or PSYCH 100, I would need the syllabus from Gateway. My efforts to contact Gateway have been fruitless, and no one has made any efforts to contact me, this has delayed and all but ruined my chances to pursue my degree at Penn State. As Gateway CC is a business to whom I paid for my education, not to respond to me is a bad business practice and I feel abandoned by their staff and will not be recommending this college to any veteran or otherwise looking to pursue their education in New Haven. I would like someone to respond to me, and provide me a syllabus for this course I have requested.
