I am rejecting this response because: I thought the issue was resolved based upon VCA's response. However, today (Sat, Apr 2, 2017) we received a VCA postcard notification that one of our dogs needs its leptospiroisis vaccine by 3/31/17. Nowhere on this VCA reminder postcard does it state that if our dog has not received an annual exam within the past year that the annual exam needs to be accomplished before the vaccine is administered and that there is a fee associated with the annual exam also. The recent VCA card still does not explain the need and additional cost associated with the vaccine administration which was my original concern. Thank you for your attention to this detail

This client was informed of the clinic’s policy that an exam must be performed within the past months in order for the doctor to administer a vaccineAlthough it is legal to a give vaccine without an exam, that is the clinic’s and doctors’ position, with the best interest of the patient in mind
An exam allows us to determine whether there might underlying health issues that would contraindicate the vaccine and make the best recommendations for the particular vaccine administered based on the lifestyle of the petThe client had an alternative position and declined the exam and vaccineRecently, we introduced exam fee schedule changes including reminders for annual wellness examsUnfortunately, due to the timing of those changes, this client did not receive that annual wellness reminder.Sent on: 3/22/7:17:PM
