Review: They installed asphalt on a driveway in 2011. In 2012, there was a problem with Gator cracking in a specific area. The area was a main stress area and my beleif at the time was that they did not put a heavy enough topping on, as the area appeared 'thin'. They made a repair at that time (2012), though I have emails that they were supposed to coordinate with me prior to make sure that I agreed with the repair. They made the repair without notifying me. I appreciate the repair at the time, but I notified them July 6, 2013 that there were problems with the repair and that the area around the repair was in need of repair (gaps in the repair). With winter approaching, fixing now, I beleive, is not as good a time as to fix anytime after July 6 through now. As seen in this email thread, I notified Gator Paving July 6, 2013 and received a response from you July 8, 2013 that someone would be out by the next week to repair the patch. I also received replies August 6, September 23, and October 31 that [redacted] would respond or be out within a few days of those emails. I also received a response November 7 that really did not give me any new information. I sent them no less than 15 emails, as seen in the email threads following this paragraph, the last of which I sent November 27. As of December 3, 2013, I have not received a response. [redacted], As seen in this email thread, I notified Gator Paving July 6, 2013 and received a response from you July 8, 2013 that someone would be out by the next week to repair the patch. I also received a response November 7 that really did not give me any new information. I am obviously cognizant to family situations. However, I think that the fact that this has gone on for nearly five months without one follow-up, that was stated would happen, demonstrates a pattern that there is no intent to resolve this issue by your company. Please prove me wrong by November 29, 2013. I am requesting, at a bare minimum, a response as to what the plan is to make the repair. I’d like to have believe that customer service by your company is important. Thanks for your consideration. What I’d like an answer on by Tuesday, November 19, is what your plan is to address the situation? It was acknowledged on July 8 that it would be looked at and several times since. As of last weekend, there was no apparent review of the the area and no note left at my residence. Please follow up, as I asked, with a plan and a date when it will be corrected. I feel that I have been more than patient. I appreciate any assistance you can do to expedite identifying any plan to repair this. Because of the lack of their follow through, I do not beleive I should be charged for any repair as I have been very patient and they have not followed through on fixing, even though I have several emails that they would take care of the issue.

Good morning,

I am not sure why we are receiving this complaint. We have been in contact with [redacted] and I will look into this issue as we are planning to do a repair to his driveway in the spring when the weather permits.

Thank you,

Gator Paving Company

Review: Gator paved our driveway last October. We had them seal the driveway in June after which many cracks in the asphalt occurred. We have a one year warranty on the paving which runs out 10/15. We have made numerous phone calls to get this problem resolved. The first call was 8/11/14 at which time they promised service on 8/14. They did not show and did not call. We spoke to them again on 8/25/14 and they promised service that week. No one called and again no show. Spoke to them again 9/5/14 . They said they would be out the week of 9/15. Again no one showed up and no call. We are concerned the warranty will expire and we will not be able to get the repair done. We are not able to get any satisfaction from them.Desired Settlement: WE want the repair work done before the warranty expires.

Review: [redacted] failed to honor a contract agreement for the repair and repaving of my driveway. He failed to remove and replace the sub base with three inches of crusher run saying the original substrate was adequate. He brought in one truckload of crusher run, not the 2.5-3 truckloads that were required and left the old gravel. His own employee told me and him ([redacted]) the base was not adequate and couldn't handle a larger roller and refused to use it. His other employee ([redacted]) told me it was put on thinner than I had asked although he didn't say this when [redacted] was present. He damaged my concrete apron. The water does not flow and puddles in front of detached garage. He did not provide the finished thickness promised on both the graveled section and the old asphalt that was repaved.Desired Settlement: I want this done correctly but he says he can't afford to undo what he's done. I also can't afford the problem he's left me. He seems not to be concerned about doing it right and tries to make excuses so unsure he is trustworthy. The evidence is the driveway and will have a licensed individual review what he did if necessary as a witness. I wish he would haul out what he's done, give me a refund and I would look for someone else that is reputable.

Re: Case # [redacted]

I have read [redacted] complaint. We have been in business in the Fredericksburg area for over 17 years now. We pave commercial jobs and residential jobs all day every day. Sometimes we take our work and knowledge for granted and forget that we need to educate our customers thoroughly as they do not do this type of work every day. I think that is where we are in this situation. A simple meeting, which we tried to have with [redacted] this evening, can take care of this situation quite easily.

Without typing paragraph after paragraph, let me try to answer this complaint correctly. I sat down and had a meeting with the crew and discussed this job with them.

1. We did not fail to remove and replace the sub base as per our contract. There was one section of the driveway that [redacted] had completed himself and he said was ready for paving. Originally, we were not supposed to touch this section except to pave it. The contract called for 2700 sq ft of removal and replacement to take place. Prior to paving, we always proof roll the sub grade with a loaded dump truck. Upon proof rolling the driveway with two loaded dump trucks, we noticed the section that was supposed to be "ready to go" per [redacted], was badly pumping and we could not be paved over. It was determined that the drainage spout from the garage was the cause of this pumping situation. The water was allowed to freely run on the new gravel and saturated the sub base and the water had no where to go therefore causing the damage. This area required and enormous amount of remediation and we dug it out approximately 12 inches. We have photos of this. Had we had the chance to sit down and talk with [redacted], we could have explained this to him. This is the area our employee was talking about.

When we moved on to the area that was supposed to be dug out, the majority of it was dug out and replaced. There was one section where the original asphalt was only 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Once the original broken asphalt was removed, we tested the original gravel in this area and determined after proof rolling it, the problem was with the thin asphalt not poor sub base. So, what we have here, is a section we did extensive work on that we weren't supposed to touch and a section that was supposed to be dug out in where the original gravel was used. [redacted] actually got way more work that he originally contracted for. I do not believe in coming back to a customer after the fact and billing them extra. In my opinion, we worked out this unforeseen situation for the best interest of everyone. Had I stopped the job and insisted on billing the [redacted] for the extra excavation time, the additional billing would have been in the $2000.00 to $2500.00 range. I do not think working in this fashion is good business. The [redacted] did get more than the 2700 sq ft called for in the contract, it was just that some of the square footage was more vertical than horizontal. Hopefully that makes sense.

2. The employee I think he is referring to as the foreman is [redacted]. Although he speaks English, Spanish is his everyday language. He probably didn't completely understand the question he was being asked. Luckily, asphalt is a mathematical calculation. The is no guessing when it comes to knowing how much asphalt is in the [redacted] driveway. I am 100 percent confident we have the exact amout of asphalt the contract called for as I have all of the asphalt tickets we used for their job. We actually went over on the asphalt tonnage I estimated, but we do not bill the customer additional for this additional material.

3. I did see there was a chip out of the concrete apron and I will have the crew fix it.

4. The water area that [redacted] is referring to was corrected. We never completely finished the driveway until today. This complaint was written prior to the job even being finished. He will, however, notice that the driveway will be sticky for a while and beads of water will collect on the surface of the drive very similar to that of a newly waxed car. Had we even gotten to that stage, all of this information is is noted on our 1 year warranty. Also included in the package, is information on how to care for your driveway.

It's unfortunate we live in a society where people cant talk anymore and expect the internet to solve situations. We have always conducted our business honestly and above board. I appear in court at least once a month to testify as an expert witness for attorneys handling large and small construction cases in which they need expert testimony. If I was a dishonest individual, I certainly would not be sought out by attorneys all across the state of Virginia. If I did not have the experience that I have, they would not be seeking me out either.

I stopped by the [redacted] house this evening to have a conversation with [redacted] and he wasn't there. I met with [redacted] and left her some information. I would like to do a complete walk through with both of them to make sure we answer all of their concerns. My customers are very important to me and had we had the chance to have this conversation in person instead of over the internet I think all of his concerns would have been more than answered. Please have him call me so we may have a conversation about his project. [redacted]
