On July 9th (Wednesday) my husband and I discovered a crack tree branch after a windstorm blew through our back yard. It hung over my neighbor’s garage and over a power line. After calling the utility company and being told I needed a contractor, I called Gator Tree and Lawn Service because we had worked with them in the past (two years ago when we first moved into the house). [redacted] was able to come out the next day and take a look at the branch. I was up front about our payment method that we needed to put it on a credit card, and I was currently waiting for the card to come in. Their website says that they take credit card, so does their face book. [redacted] was nice enough to anchor the branch for us. The timing was fine, because he was in the process of switching bank accounts and needed to reregister his business. (That probably should have been my first clue, I admit.) We agreed that I would call him when the card came in.

We went out of town for business, came back and had received the card. I called [redacted] on July 21st, (Monday) to let him know that the card was in. Left a message, did not get a call back the on July 22nd (Tuesday) letting me know that he had not gotten the funds to register so he needed me to pull the money out in cash and pay him that way. (He had left me a message). I knew the branch needed to be taken care of, but without being able to charge it on the card, I had no way of paying for it until the 1st of August. On Thursday July 24th, we had another windstorm and the branch cracked more. I was worried the anchor wasn’t going to hold, so on Friday July 25th I called and left a message explaining that I would have the cash on the 1st, but that the branch had been cracked further. I received a call that night from a different number, it was [redacted] who hadn’t gotten my message, because apparently he’d cracked his phone. So I explain the situation and he said that we could pay on the 1st of August and he’d be out Saturday between 11am and 12pm.

Saturday (the 26th) comes around and he doesn’t show up. At all. Sunday (the 27th) he shows up at 1pm and explains that he was helping is mother who was going into surgery and that’s why he didn’t show up. He did not explain why he did not call to explain that before hand. So he goes in the back, looks at the tree and tells my husband that he has to go and get the wood chipper and he’d be back in an hour. [redacted] showed back up at 5pm and told me that he’s just there to set up his climbing rope and he would be back first thing in the morning. His excuse was that his employee backed out of him.

Monday (July 28th) morning goes by, no phone call, the phone that he used to call me from belonged to some other gentlemen (I got the answering machine). So at this point I’m trying to figure out what to do, I am already calling other companies, most who didn’t want to touch it since the branch was anchored by another company. I did find one who said they would come and take a look if [redacted] did not show up. 11:45am I get a call from [redacted] saying he needed a deposit because he was running low on gas. At this point, I’m like fine, whatever get over here and get this branch done. I pulled $45 out of my royalty account, which is not used for personal use normally. He shows up with someone else, takes the $45, drops off the chainsaw and ropes, and then disappears to get the wood chipper. He disappears until 3:30pm and tells me that it is because he’d forgotten about a court date. 4:20 I go outside to see why I haven’t heard any activity. Turns out that they that they had to call Colorado Springs Utilities to get do a line down. Luckily utilities showed up at that moment and the got the power taken down (4:28pm).

A few minutes later, I notice that [redacted] leaves in the truck, leaving his partner in the back yard twiddling his thumbs. I went out there and asked what was going on. The explanation I got was that [redacted] needed a pulley thing to get the branch down. I asked if this job would be done tonight and I was told yes. [redacted] reappeared somewhere around 5:30 and I asked when the electricity would be back on and the response was as soon as the branch was on the ground. I explained that I was going to a friend’s for dinner and that I had my phone. I could not cook dinner when the power was down.

My husband drove by the house at 6:45 and [redacted]’ truck was gone. We got home from dinner at 8:30pm and I went to put the dog out back only to notice that the branch was still in the tree and cracked more. I had no phone call, nothing, luckily the power was back on.

Tuesday morning (July 29th) I still have no idea why I still have a cracked tree branch. I call utilities because I am curious as to what time the power was turned back on, their answer is 7:45. At 9:45am I get a call from the other company. They have time to come out and take a look between 2 and 2:30pm, I go head and tell them yet and explain that [redacted] has not shown back up nor called me yet to tell me what was going on. I promised to keep them updated if [redacted] called. 2:15 the other company shows up and looks at the branch. They deem it an emergency and tell me they will have a crew there and the only thing I needed to do was talk to my neighbor.

I talk to [redacted] who tells me that [redacted] was supposed to come back that morning and take care of it. At this point she also doesn’t care who takes care of it, but knows it needs to come down. She was going to speak to me when she saw me, but when she woke up my husband’s car was gone. (She’s elderly and doesn’t not completely have her mind) She gives them permission to use her driveway. 2:30 [redacted] shows up, there were words exchanged in which he handed me more excuses, saying that he didn’t call because all he had was my home phone (after he told the other company that he called me) and that he didn’t do it last night because he needed to have a third man (Which he still only showed up with one other person today). He also tried to tell me that I was the one lying about phone calls until I said I’d gladly grab my phone and prove that he had not called me.

It is my opinion that [redacted] never had the intention of doing the job in a timely manor even though the branch threatened a power line and my neighbor’s garage. The other company was able to complete the job before 3:30pm. Attached is a picture of the tree taken at 8:15am this morning. I highly recommend that you do not use Gator Tree and Lawn Service of Colorado Springs, CO.

In an unfortunate accident my tree in my front yard fell from a severe storm here in COS. The Specialist Kurtis arrived and was very proffesional and friendly. He was very thorough on explaining the plan of action to remove this 30 feet tree from off my roof. He had more than adequate equipment and tools to complete the job. This man is definitely a Subject Matter Expert when tackling on out of the norm situations. It did not take him long even through the rain that still persisted. Could not have asked for experience Thanx to Kurtis.
