Gauge Auto Sports Reviews (3)

Review: I purchased a 1995 Land Rover Range Rover from [redacted] of Gauge Auto Sports that was delivered late and not as described. I have had nearly $8,000 in repairs done to this vehicle in the three months of ownership. It has spent 1/3 of my ownership time in a Land Rover repair shop. Items that were told to me to have been done, were not done. And other items that were done were done so poorly that they are needing to be redone. For example, a full service of all fluids on the vehicle; the only one that was changed was the engine oil. The headliner that was replaced is now falling down. The exterior paint that was applied was poorly done and is now chipping. The interior was supposed to be redone with new carpets and leather, also not done. Additionally, the vehicle was shipped to me, three months late. This vehicle was definitely not in show room condition when it was delivered to me in Georgia. The most recent problems look like I am now potentially also going to have to replace the engine and the transmission/transfercase, too. The bill of sale specified each of the above mentioned items would be done. The picture that [redacted] had painted was a vehicle that was in show room condition and the bill of sale specified that I would receive the vehicle in "turn key condition."Desired Settlement: As mentioned in the previous section, I have spent nearly $8,000 to get the vehicle repaired. I would accept a refund in an amount that would cover the expenses that I have incurred in the short time I have owned this vehicle. This refund would likely be used to continue to the repair work that is needed to get the vehicle into the condition that was promised.

Review: Below is the email I sent to [redacted], owner of Gauge Auto Sports Inc., on June 26, 2014, to which I have received no meaningful response. [redacted] has also pretty much gone radio silent since then and has not offered up any responses to my attempts at communication.

[redacted],

The following email outlines my immediate request regarding the 1995 Range Rover Classic LWB (VIN # [redacted]) that I agreed to purchase as of March 11, 2014. Per the attached bill of sale, the amount of $27,000 was to be divided between an initial deposit of $18,000 and the balance of $9,000 was to be paid upon completion of the motor work. The work to be done (not all-inclusive) is outlined in the bill of sale. Per the bill of sale, "The current Odometer reading is approximately 143,178 miles and that this reading accurately represents the miles driven to the best of my knowledge... It is understood that both agree that the completion of the vehicle should take between 4-6 weeks before delivery." I would like to note that today is June 26, 2014 - 107 days after, which assuming a 6-week delivery window is currently 65 days late.

To layout a summary of the current situation:

- On March 8, 2014, we were first put in touch by [redacted]. We had a discussion, and I was assured by you that the car was fully in your possession and that work was being done on it

- On March 11, I made the wire transfer for the deposit to Gauge Auto Sports, Inc., for $18,000 via wire transfer and mentioned that I was planning on coming down on April 20th to take delivery

- On March 17, I checked in to confirm that the vehicle will be ready to pick up the week of April 20th, as I was planning my flights (and my friends who were planning to come were planning theirs as well). You responded and mentioned that you did not forsee any delay.

- On April 15, I sent an email. And on April 15, I checked in because I had not received any responses from you, checking to see whether we were still on track. On April 16, I sent you another message as I hadn't heard back reconfirming that the Rover would have to be ready by 4/26

- On April 22, I checked in on the status, and you replied that it would be finished on Sunday

- Shortly thereafter, you replied that you still had things to do and you wouldn't have enough time

- I sent you a message back asking if it would work if I came down the Friday after (May 2) and you said it would work

- On April 29, I called you and you said you would call back the next day with an update

- On May 1, I sent you a message as I never heard back from you as you promised

- On May 5, I sent you another messaged "[redacted], what's the update? You haven't told me anything"

- Over the next couple of weeks, I called you at least twice and never received a response

- On May 20, "[redacted], what's going on? It's been a couple of weeks and almost a month since the original anticipated delivery date"

- On the same day, after that message, I spoke to [redacted] (whose shop, [redacted], you were using to do the mechanical work). You had said that the car was getting some work done in the shop. [redacted] says that the last time he saw the car was on 4/23, and nothing had been done on your end during that whole time

- On the same day, I also wrote you an email stating that I was worried about what was going on. I also mentioned that "If you can't get it done, just refund my money". I hadn't received any updates.

- On May 29, we talked and you said you would deliver the Rover

- On June 1, I asked for another ETA and said that if you weren't able to deliver the Rover by June 16th, 2014, in the condition as promised, that I would want the transaction/my money refunded and to move on.

- On June 25th, I asked why I hadn't received the Rover yet. The excuse I got was that you had to keep replacing parts, you weren't happy with certain items, and blamed [redacted] for delaying the whole process. I asked you point blank that if [redacted] could get everything done in one day, would the vehicle be ready for me to take deliver, and you said you still had some other items. From everything that I have heard, almost no work had been done on the Rover over the past 2 months

- On our call I stated that I wanted a refund and would give you until today, June 26th, to give me an answer. I sent you a message in the evening because I had not heard back, and still have not received a response.

- I have heard that the vehicle is currently being driven by one of your employees (I hope not daily). A current odometer reading would help prove this out.

Many of these emails and requests for info/updates went unanswered, which is completely unacceptable.

I believe there has been a breach of contract in several areas:

- On March 13, I requested that you document all repairs and pictures during the process. On that same date, you acknowledged that you would "do what [you] can [to] dcument all repairs and will get pics during the process". As of today, I have received no pictures of the process.

- You have failed to meet several deadlines for me to take deliver/for you to deliver the Rover. Each time, it has been an inexcusable process of requesting information and a straight answer from you

- The contract we have has been unfulfilled and to the best of my knowledge, no subs[redacted]tial work has been done on the vehicle.

- I do not believe you have been honest and upfront about the issues with the vehicle and the state of the work.

- The vehicle is currently at least 65 days overdue, with no progress update.

At this point, I am once again formally requesting a refund of the full $27,000 that I have already paid to Gauge Auto Sports, Inc., for the vehicle. I no longer want to take delivery for the many reasons listed above. I would appreciate the courtesy of a response by 5pm on Friday, June 26, 2014.

Sincerely,

[redacted]Desired Settlement: Given the repeated breach in contract and inability to resolve the issue, at this point the only solution I would want to accept is a full refund of the purchase price. Additionally, the vehicle is now over 2 months overdue from the promised delivery date. In addition, I am concerned about the eventual quality of the product - [redacted] / the business promised a vehicle that would be fully turnkey and operational. Having talked to another customer of his, and also through my conversations with [redacted], I do not believe that [redacted] will be able to deliver a quality product.

Review: Simple facts are that the item was not described correctly and misleading. First off the paint quality was described as excellent....when in fact on several places of the car the original color of the car can be seen through the poor paint job. In the ad it failed to mention several items like cracked windshield, numerous dents in the roof, cracked interior trim and leaking mechanical components. The engine, transmission and differentials are all leaking fluid. Also stated in the ad that there were no warning light on the dash, however the SRS airbag light is illuminated. The ad stated the car was rust free, however a large area of rust is visible on the underside of the car. For interior trim it stated there was minimal cracking in the wood trim, however all wood trim has cracks. If all these items would have been disclosed correctly then I would have never bought the car. Looking to return the car for a full refund.Desired Settlement: Full refund for the car.
