GBS Restoration Services Corp. Reviews (1)

Review: On or about 11/**/2012, I was approached by a gentlemen by the name of [redacted] to clean my basement after Superstorm Sandy. At that point, I was so distraught after the storm that I really did not get into detail as to what services would be rendered, except that [redacted] promised me that the whole basement would be cleared out and cleaned out and that there would never be any mold after his company was done with the work. During our first meeting I agreed because my entire neighborhood was panicked that mold was a major consequence and that it could harm the health of my family members. Two small children live in my house. In any event, shortly after meeting [redacted], appeared a gentlemen by the name of [redacted]. He came to my house on a small SUV and behind him trailed a van with a few men who went into my basement ripped out my walls and stuffed some garbage bags out of a the windows in my basement. They broke my windows. They remained in my house for a few hours and left. About three weeks later, [redacted] appeared again with a white van trailing behind. Out came two men with some equipment which they later identified as Dehumidifiers. This equipment never worked in my house. Every time the equipment turned on the electricity in my house blew out. Finally, about 7 weeks later, some man came to my house and sprayed some liquid on my walls. He said that he thought it was being done to late and mold had already appeared on my walls.

GBS went onto to submit a bill to my insurance company in the amount of approximately $18,000.00. They caused major damage to my house, specifically the windows, planters, walls, electricity, etc. I have communication with them where they agreed to settle with me for $2,000.00. They never even told me that the insurance company paid them. Instead, they tried to collect the balance twice. They were so aggressive in their collection tactics that even though they broke so many things in my house, for the sake of settling this matter, and not dealing with this company, I offered to pay $2,000.00 in order to avoid litigation.Desired Settlement: I would like for them to refund my insurance company. I do not want insurance companies to be defrauded. So many people are in need of financial assistance and are being denied because of scam artists such as these. These people lied to me, put my family in harms way and took advantage of me during such a difficult time. I was never given the contract. I was never provided with a bill until after the services were rendered. I was never reimbursed for the damages caused by GBS.

Response:

To Whom it may concern :

Thank you for the opportunity to address the distressing and incredibly inaccurate statement by this client.

I will attempt to clarify each issue that was stated. First we did not approach [redacted]. Rather we were referred to her husband by her sister in law [redacted], whose home we did clean up for and ( who to date has still not paid us ) . He stated that he was in Real Estate business. We met at his office and described in great detail what our work consisted of and how we would go about executing job. [redacted] was very anxious for us to initiate project. We indicated we would accept whatever Insurance Company allocated for work performed. This was predicated on detailed scope of work prepared, which client has copy of.

So the idea that [redacted] was sold a bill of goods that we did not live up to is utterly false

Regarding the actual work performed ? We had on site no less than 5 men over a 2- 3 days period.

Included was a project manager and [redacted] who is company field supervisor. The job was performed with utmost care , concern and professionalism.

In reference to statement about equipment used. We delivered and deployed appropriate amount of equipment necessary to provide adequate drying. The only reason equipment was not left after clean out was due to lack of power in clients building. The liquid sprayed is Microban which is used to disinfect and prevent any initiation of mold. It is protocol to apply it whenever a property has been exposed as clients was.

Regarding price ? as stipulated we advised we would work for whatever the Insurance Company allocated. The clients assessment of an offer of $ 2000 for this work is outrageous. Our scope presented to Insurance Company is completely accurate and reflective of work performed. We submitted proposal to her Company and requested to be reimbursed on their behalf. We never ever had any intention, objective or desire to request additional funds from Client. What we advised ? was her offer of $ 2000 was completely unacceptable. We were basically told to ? take or leave it?. This is quite disingenuous after work has long been completed.

Regarding damages to her property we may have caused ; We were made aware of her damages and offered to reimburse client for any damage we may have been responsible for. The reason this was never discussed further was due to fact ?client no longer returned our calls or had desire to interact with us after work was completed.

To summarize ? It was clients objective to have all work completed and either not pay us or make an offer so ridiculously low that we could not accept.

Our bill was approved by Insurance Company who sent an adjuster to client home and observed what had taken place.

However for her to state that we ? lied to her , put her family in harm?s way and in any way took advantage of her in difficult time is a complete falsehood and actually libelous. To have to read some of the allegations that client made is frustrating to say the least.

We are a licensed, insured, certified company. We strive to exceed customers expectation with every interaction. Additionally we handled in excess of 40 jobs in the Manhattan Beach area during Hurricane Sandy without complaint or incident.

It is our observation that client is nothing more than opportunist who wished to present our estimates and paperwork to Insurance Company for their benefit.

We will be more than willing to answer any of your questions or concerns regarding this matter.

Sincerely ,
