GCA Construction Reviews (1)

New concrete floor severely cracked and heaved in less than two years. In spring 2013, GCA removed my severely heaved concrete basement floor, and repoured a new floor. I made inquiries about weeping tile and a sump hole, and asked "how is this the heaving not going to happen again." My concerns were dismissed, and I was assured that, while the floor would likely crack, it would not heave again. By July 2014, the floor was indeed cracked. The basement was rented to a tenant, so I did not see the floor again until April 2015. By this time, it was heaved so significantly that I had to have repair work done on a pocket door so that it would function. Significant damage has also occurred in the plaster of the upstairs. Since April the floor has continued to heave and break, such that more repairs are now needed to the pocket door and also two other doors in the basement. I contacted GCA on August 21 and asked him to have a look at the problem. Response time was slow, but he did eventually look at the problem (on September 19 or 20) and said that nothing could be done. GCA returned for a second visit on Sept 21. I had never received the engineer's report, so I asked for that to be provided to me, and also a detailed invoice (including materials), as the invoice I received at the time the work was done was very general.I asked for these within 2 days, but these have not yet been provided. Desired SettlementI would like the documents I requested -- the detailed invoice and the engineer's report.I would like a refund for the work done or compensation for the repairs that are now necessary.Business Response [redacted]August 20th 2015 [redacted] sent me an email in regards to some work that we did to her home at [redacted] in [redacted] Sask, she had a concern with the new concrete floor that we installed 2 years earlier. Upon seeing the concrete floor it was crack and heaved more than probably should have but this is the problem with the soil condition in [redacted]. The plumbing was also changed under the floor and in floor heating as well was installed, there is a possibility that they are leaking and water is getting under the floor which could also be the source of the problem with heaving. I returned to the house the next day or so with a level to check to see if the foundation was settling and my suspicions were correct, there was some settling which makes the floor appear to be rising but this is not the total problem.[redacted] requested a detailed invoice and the engineer's report. The engineer phoned me within a couple of day of my last visit and stated that [redacted] was in contact and requested a copy of the report and if I would be okay if they release it to her and I granted that request so I assume that she received a copy. I sent her a copy October 15th 2015 as well. I am not too sure what she wanted for a detailed invoice. The resolution, as I stated to [redacted] and everybody else that when we pour concrete it will crack due to the soil conditions in Regina and there is a chance of movement and this is why we replace the slab in the first place. Consumer Response [redacted]GCA construction did not know what I meant by a detailed invoice a detailed invoice would indicate specifics of the materials that were used in the new floor: whether sand/gravel was included and how much, the specs of the rebar and how much rebar was used, the strength of the concrete and how much concrete was used. Final Business Response [redacted] In regards to a detailed invoice, this work was completed in the Spring of 2013, we are unable to go back into our financial system to create/amend an invoice. If [redacted] was not satisfied at the time that she received/paid the invoice then she could have requested more information at that time. As stated below ''We can go back in our records and see what concrete, base materials, rebar, but there would be a cost to retrieve that information at a cost of approx. ($500.00to $2500.00)depending on the hours it takes the staff to it.'' Please confirm that if this work is completed that the cost will be paid at the same time that the invoice is received by the you.[redacted]
