Response:

I apologize for the experience faced from difficulties in scheduling the door install. I contacted the client on 9/23/14 and agreed to waive any deposit or other fees applicable and pick up our product from her home.

Review: This is to let you know that I like to report GDS Garage Door Services for overcharging a senior citizen as I feel taken advantage of. The price should have been $687.00 which was given to me by the honest company Overhead Door of Sacramento and not $1,611.78. Please inform me what can be done it.Desired Settlement: The price should have been $687.00.... and not $1,611.78.

Response:

We do not claim to have the cheapest prices, but we do provide upgraded parts guaranteed with a lifetime warranty. We have standard retail pricing for all parts and services. Our technicians perform a full safety inspection and diagnostic and then review all concerns with the customer, going over all repairs and pricing and getting verbal approval before starting any repairs. If the customer feels our price is not fair they have every opportunity to decline the service and pursue other estimates. In this case the work was approved, and attached are the invoices signed in agreement that the work was completed as promised for the agreed upon price. We have reviewed the invoice and verified there is no overcharge per our standard pricing, the customer was not overcharged or taken advantage of in any way.

Review: Garage Door Service replace my garage door opener, spring and rollers in May 2013. Three weeks later my garage door opener opened my garage door but it wouldn't go back down in addition my garage door was crooked. Two technicians from Garage door Service came out to fix the problem 5 hours later. The technicians claimed it was fixed. The next day my garage door was not working again and the door was crooked. I called Garage Door Services Customer Service Manager and asked to refund the products they installed, he denied my request and said we have 48 hours to fix the problem. My garage door was stuck open and I couldn't close it, the manager didn't seem helpful or caring. Three hours later a technician came to fix the problem, he said it is fixed. This was today, I don't believe my garage door is fixed.

I want a reliable garage door that works every time I use it. I have wasted to much of my time on this issue. I do not believe my garage door has been fixed. I would like a refund.

Business' Initial Response

We are sorry to hear about the inconvenience with your garage door. We did send out [redacted] on June 6th, and our technician let us know that everything was working when he left. We assume this matter has been resolved since we haven't heard form you since than. We did install a new operator as well as springs and rollers on May 15, 2013, and you were with in your 30 day labor warranty. Shane was able to fix the door balanced and drums adjusted. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you.

Review: This company is not honest. My garage door came off its tracks and the tech came by and said all he had to do was put it back on track. It cost me $322. Within hours the door was once again off and the chain was out of place. I contacted company and they said they would send someone out that night; no one came (this was Sun). When I called to complain they gave me the run around and said someone would come on Monday (Labor Day) and no one came. I sat at home waiting; they should have had the courtesy to be honest and say that no one was going to come. On Tue a different person came and stated that multiple parts would need to be required. I said that previous tech had said no such thing. This new tech alleged that we probably didn't want to pay for parts. These new parts and labor would be $450. He said putting track on would fix nothing. I was not informed of this at all on Sunday. I brought out my receipt and asked to talk to the manager. The Tue tech said the Sun tech was new and didn't know what he was doing. I said that shouldn't be the customer's (my) fault; how can they expect to charge me $322 plus $450 because the previous guy didn't know what he was doing?? Honestly felt like they got money from me on Sun, then came by Mon and just started pointing out a bunch of new stuff. Tech said it is what it is and we would just have to take it or he would leave. After much back and forth I had no choice because they already had my Sun money and I still had a broken door. They quoted me cost of $500. After work was done they tried to charge me $600. Apparently the cost of parts went up in the last 45 min. Extremely deceptive, I said I would only pay quoted price. Then he tried to argue he quoted $550 which made no sense because he told me individual costs and I could do the math. They are not honest and trick you. Put you in a position where you have to spend the additional money. It was like going to a bad auto shop.Desired Settlement: The first tech told me nothing more was needed and charged me $322 for a fix that lasted one garage opening. The second tech said the first one had no idea what he was doing. How is that my fault? He's your employee and your responsibility. You can't charge me for doing the wrong thing - basically making me pay twice, and tricking me into buying parts. They said I only had one spring and said to add another. When I came out to they took out original and put it in their truck. I never got it bac.

Response:

Our technicians diagnose issues to the best of their abilities and do not recommend replacement of parts and additional costs if they are not necessary. Fixing a door off track or "crashed" door is a substantial service and this was completed by our initial technician. Sometimes an issue may not present itself until after a repair such as this is completed, which appears to be the case with this record. GDS stands behind our products and services, and after being made aware that the client's door was not working again we made every attempt to have the original technician back out that night, but were unable to reach him. On 9/2/14 a different made the warranty visit to resolve the issue and noticed that parts would still need to be replaced. Every accommodation was made to ensure the client was taken care of after the issue with the initial service. They were not charged any labor for the additional repair and received a $175 discount on parts. If the parts had been replaced originally, the $322 paid for the original service would have still applied as well as the full price for parts. With all of this being said, I would like to reach out further to the client and offer an additional $100 rebate on the original service completed on the basis of customer satisfaction.
