Gears Transmission Reviews (7)

My antique truck was towed to Gears because the clutch fork broke After about a week and $later I was told they had rebuilt the transmission, replaced all seals and it was fixed I was also told that it came with a lifetime warranty Within a couple months I was having trouble with the transmission, popping out of gear and the transmission leaking I took it back to Gears and after leaving it for a week was told they had found the problem and had ordered parts, I was told it would be ready in a few days Over the next plus weeks, after calling them each week, I was told again, each week, that they had ordered parts and it would be fixed in a day or two days after leaving the truck with them I was told that it needed a new fly wheel because the other one was totally destroyed and that was going to cost me another $ For anyone who knows even a little about how a standard transmission works you would know this was a total rip off If, and I say if, the fly wheel was damaged it was damaged from their improper installation of the transmission after rebuilding it I am so disgusted with these people and I would never recommend them to even my worst enemy They are a joke!

Gears Transmission gave me the worst repair experience ever and I'm and have many auto repairs in my lifetime My Review: I pulled in with Ford 4.6, very standard transmission, all was working just as normal, pulling cargo trailer, lb piano on board, not a single pulling problem through hills, large inclines and moreThe only issue was a noise that was coming from under the truck When engaged their opinion and summary, they informed me I had serious problemsIt did not seem correct with all the transmission working well, but I took their wordKeep in mind, a new rebuilt transmission would cost on this truck around 2,to maybe depending on your business, but their charge to fix the transmission that was all working well was around 7,They kept insisting my radiator was a problem, but at this time in the diagnosis, they had never looked at transmission nor taken it apartAfter a series of discussions and my showing them that in Panama City, they were way out of line for this repair compared to at least ten other transmission repair servicesIn most cases, I could have had almost four rebuild transmissions for the price they were charging for mineGears also, deemed my transmission a rare one and this was the reason for the larger costBut all of their competitors, ten of them, said it was very standard and common in Ford trucks of my kindI had the repair done their for after I challenged them on chargeThey determined all was fixedI drove back to NC and the whole trip, the noise was still thereI really don't think they fixed anything at all and just charged meI live to far away to pursue any legal issues, but I can tell you, if I lived there I surely would I did talk with a former employee of theirs and he indicated, they were a real scam there and most out of town folks would never know thisTherefore, they are taken advantage of simply most customers have very little knowledge of transmission My advice to any potential customer is to stay away from this business and choose one instead that has good ratings locally in Panama City Florida Also, at one point, I contacted the Sheriff's office to remove my truck if they continued to make consistent excuses as to the time table of my truckIt did not take long to determine they were really not doing much business there and needed to make extra income from suckers like me

I call gears on a Friday to get the transmission fluid switched out in my RVI was told to bring it on in and they could get right to itI told the guy It would take me a couple hours to get there because I had to go and unhook everything
Upon arriving at their shop I was left sitting there for over minutes before the guy at the counter whom I spoke with on the phone told me they couldn't get to it today
I then made an appointment to return on Monday at AMThe counterman assured me they would get me right in and have the garage cleared so I can get my RV in at
When I arrived on Monday I noticed the garage was full of other vehiclesUpon approaching the counter I was told it would be minutes before they could get to me because he had another vehicle on the rackI asked the gentleman at the counter why there was a vehicle on that rack, didn't you know I was coming? Also didn't you promise me you have the garage clear His response to me was that he couldn't move that vehicle and they had promised that before mineI then went out to my RV to wait the minutes I was told before they could get to my vehicleAbout minutes later the guy at the counter came knocking on my RV doorHe told me they couldn't get to my vehicle till later on that afternoon
So after driving twice over to their shop and disconnecting and re-hooking my RV two times, wasting fuel and my time (which is precious) I took my vehicle to another shop and got the repair done for $less and within one hourIn my opinion if you want the runaround take yourself to this shop If you want to be treated well go somewhere else

My antique truck was towed to Gears because the clutch fork broke. After about a week and $1800 later I was told they had rebuilt the transmission, replaced all seals and it was fixed. I was also told that it came with a lifetime warranty. Within a couple months I was having trouble with the transmission, popping out of gear and the transmission leaking. I took it back to Gears and after leaving it for a week was told they had found the problem and had ordered parts, I was told it would be ready in a few days. Over the next 3 plus weeks, after calling them each week, I was told again, each week, that they had ordered parts and it would be fixed in a day or two. 26 days after leaving the truck with them I was told that it needed a new fly wheel because the other one was totally destroyed and that was going to cost me another $400. For anyone who knows even a little about how a standard transmission works you would know this was a total rip off. If, and I say if, the fly wheel was damaged it was damaged from their improper installation of the transmission after rebuilding it. I am so disgusted with these people and I would never recommend them to even my worst enemy. They are a joke!

I wanted to post his because I truly have had the most refreshing experience that need to be shared. My mother is 68 and need her brakes looked at she went to a place that said she need a rack and pinion I told her to k around and she got referred to Gears it turned out that all was wrong was she was leaking washer fluid from the reservoir that's all $10.99 part and no labor . I don't what others think but I am impressed with Gear's .

The guys at Gears are quick and efficient. I take all me family's cars to Gears.

Gears Transmission gave me the worst repair experience ever and I'm 63 and have many auto repairs in my lifetime.

My Review: I pulled in with Ford 150 4.6, very standard transmission, all was working just as normal, pulling cargo trailer, 600 lb piano on board, not a single pulling problem through hills, large inclines and more. The only issue was a noise that was coming from under the truck. When engaged their opinion and summary, they informed me I had serious problems. It did not seem correct with all the transmission working well, but I took their word. Keep in mind, a new rebuilt transmission would cost on this truck around 2,000.00 to maybe 2500.00 depending on your business, but their charge to fix the transmission that was all working well was around 7,000.00. They kept insisting my radiator was a problem, but at this time in the diagnosis, they had never looked at transmission nor taken it apart. After a series of discussions and my showing them that in Panama City, they were way out of line for this repair compared to at least ten other transmission repair services. In most cases, I could have had almost four rebuild transmissions for the price they were charging for mine. Gears also, deemed my transmission a rare one and this was the reason for the larger cost. But all of their competitors, ten of them, said it was very standard and common in Ford trucks of my kind. I had the repair done their for 2500.00 after I challenged them on charge. They determined all was fixed. I drove back to NC and the whole trip, the noise was still there. I really don't think they fixed anything at all and just charged me. I live to far away to pursue any legal issues, but I can tell you, if I lived there I surely would.

I did talk with a former employee of theirs and he indicated, they were a real scam there and most out of town folks would never know this. Therefore, they are taken advantage of simply most customers have very little knowledge of transmission.

My advice to any potential customer is to stay away from this business and choose one instead that has good ratings locally in Panama City Florida.

Also, at one point, I contacted the Sheriff's office to remove my truck if they continued to make consistent excuses as to the time table of my truck. It did not take long to determine they were really not doing much business there and needed to make extra income from suckers like me.
