I encountered this business on May 9th and was charged an amount that was nothing short of extortionI was involved in an accident in which the state police were calledAs I was not from the area and did not have a mechanic or tow company nearby, the officer called a tow truck off of the state police rotation listAfter my car was loaded, I asked the driver where it was going to be taken so I could come take care of it, and was informed that no one was at the office to let me inThe accident was on a Saturday afternoon, and the business closed at Noon and was closed Sundays, as wellI called the business first thing Monday morning and was informed that the tow cost $and they were also charging me $for three days of storage at $eachI was also informed that if I signed the title of my car over to them, that they would reduce my charges from $to $I understand that the tow driver had to come out after hours and that it was a state police rotation call, both of which cost more than a usual tow; however, my accident was only miles away from the Towing companyI also find it outageous that they charged me for storage when they ended up owning the carAlso they charged me for three days of storage when my vehicle wasn't even there for hours, and they weren't open two of those days for me to take care of itI'm assuming that Geedeys deals with insurance companies that just pay the bill, so they can pretty much charge whatever they want; but as I had no collision insurance, I had to pay the bill myselfI find it rather excessive that I was charged a total of $for a mile towIt seems to me that Geedeys is extorting the situtation knowing that when the police call for an accident tow, the customer, or insurance company, has no choice but to pay what is chargedUnfotunately, PA does not have a cap on what can be charged for towing and storage as some other states do; but setting high prices, knowing that the customer has to pay the bill, is still bad business ethics

Complaint: ***
I am rejecting this response because: Their letter is quite inaccurate I called daily and often got no answers The shop said they would return calls by certain times and did not The owner DID tell me I should be happy that the other mechanic fixed it The profanity used was not my words, but rather me saying verbatim what the second mechanic said when he heard how much geedey's charged It is still very strange that the second mechanic fixed the car for approximately half of what Geedey's charged to not fix the car.I hope other motorists are able to avoid this mechanic

February 1, 2017I am writing to your office in response to a complaint filed by *** ***I am providing a summary of events with *** ***'s *** ***The information contained in his complaint statement is incorrectIn addition, he did not include any information regarding my minute
conversation with him on 01/27/2017. *** ***'s White *** *** broke down on Rte *** *** just west of the *** exitThe vehicle had died while drivingThe vehicle was towed by our company back to our shop on 01/05/2017. Before the vehicle was offloaded off the tow truck, our mechanic attempted to crank over the engine, but the battery was deadOur mechanic used a jump pack to boost the battery, and he cranked over the engineIt was immediately determined from the sound that there was a compression problem on one or more of the cylindersThe vehicle symptoms were the engine cranked over, no start, and no compression. Vehicle was offloaded into our shop immediatelyWe attempted to scan the computer for any problem codes, but any problem codes that were stored were cleared due to the dead battery. Removed the RF wheel in order to gain access to the crank boltAlso removed the timing cover caps, andverified that there was no issue with the timing belt or the timingReassembled the timing caps and the RF Wheel. Then started removing the spark plugs to perform an engine compression testWhen we removed the #Cylinder coil pack, parts of the coil were found to be melted down into the spark plug tubeWe began removing the bits and pieces of the melted coil AND the melted spark plugWe utilized an easy-out extractor on the #spark plug, because the hex portion of the plug was completely goneThere was no porcelain intact; it was just loose piecesWhen the remaining piece of the spark plug was removed, we discovered this particular spark plug hole had been repaired previouslyThere was a spark plug "thread repair insert" on the remaining piece of the spark plugWe then performed a compression test; all cylinders EXCEPT cylinder #had good compression.Knowing there was previous repair to #spark plug hole, we did not want to re-tap the spark plug hole a second time as it could interfere with the valve seatsWe made every attempt to locate another spark plug insert with the same external threads, but were unsuccessful with locating another one.At this point, it was decided to clean and re-install the insertBefore doing so, we removed the valve cover to install a new spark plug tube SEALThe original spark plug tube was blued/discolored from the excess heat from the melted coil packThe original tube seal was indeed melted as well. We installed the thread insert on new spark plug on 01/06/JB Weld was applied to the insert external threads, and we left the JB Weld Cure/set up over the weekendEACH spark plug was torqued to ft lbs. On 01/09/2017, we installed the new coil pack and attempted to start the engineImmediate results were crank, no start, and still had the sound of a cylinder missing compressionAt this point, the engine should have at least started, but just had a misfireWe then checked for spark, and found noneThe no Spark issue was traced back to a blown ignition coil fuse; this fuse probably blew from the shorted and burnt ignition CoilWe replaced the fuse, and started the engineThere was a misfire on cylinder #5.We contacted the customer on 01/09/to FURTHER discuss the cylinder #misfireThere was a daily and constant communication between our company and *** ***At this point, we could not verify if there was any more melted debris down in past the spark plug holeFor instance, debris stuck between the valve and the valve seatThis would explain the compression problem, and also the misfire*** *** did not want to have any more teardown; he wanted to drive his vehicle back to Maryland where he is fromWe suggested that if he was driving the vehicle that distance that the #fuel injector and coil pack should be unplugged so there would not be any damage to the catalytic converter*** *** came to our shop to pick up his vehicle on 01/16/*** *** and my mechanic went for a short test drive PRIOR to him paying for his billWe explained everything we did, and we also provided him with all of his old melted parts in a bagThere was no disagreement whatsoever that day*** *** removed the vehicle from our garage parking lot.On 01/27/2017, the customer contacted our company, and he said that his local mechanic stated that wef* him overWe attempted to discuss the matter civilly, and he was not accepting the fact of what work was completedAt no point did we say that he should be happy the OTHER SHOP fixed it, and hang up.I called *** *** later on 01/27/2017; he and I spoke for minutes, and he apologized for his profanity approach earlierI reiterated all of the work that was completed, and how tedious it was to remove/clean the melted pieces out of the spark plug holeI also reminded him that we kept him informed every single time that he made contact with our shop*** *** stated that he drove the *** *** to Harrisburg (about miles)*** *** informed me that he stopped the vehicle in Harrisburg, PA, and had the vehicle towed back to MarylandHe said that he was hard to drive at a safe speed; this was due to the fuel injector and coil on cylinder #being unpluggedI repeated that this driving distance could have easily broken up any more debris down inside the valve and the valve seat, and when his mechanic in Maryland plugged in the fuel injector and the coil, that the problem could have been resolvedHe kept informing me that his mechanic fixed his vehicleI told him that I would like that shop to contact me to discuss what we didI reiterated that when the vehicle came to our shop that it was not running, but the vehicle left runningWe ended the conversation that *** *** would have his mechanic call me.In closing, I have conducted business with *** *** as I do with any other customerHe contacted us every day, and we kept him informed of what was being doneHe knew the part prices, and he knew, of course, there would be laborWe provided him with his original parts (melted and broken pieces in a bag)There was no confrontation at all that day when he picked up the vehicleThe disagreement arising with *** *** is that he feels that we did not fix his vehicleHe is not accepting or understanding the fact that there could have more debris down inside the motor, and he did not want any further teardownDriving to Harrisburg could have easily broken up any remaining pieces. If you need any additional information or have any questions, either *** *** or you may contact me.Sincerely,Barbara G*** Vice President
