Geek Squad Reviews (3)

I live and work in New York State. I don’t know if this is the correct Geek Squad office about which my complaint relates but it is the closest office to New York, so I am submitting it to this location.
On Tuesday, Sept. 22, I called 1-800-GEEK SQUAD to discuss setting up an appointment for the following work to be done at my home:
(a) Check each of four laptop computers (3 Dell Windows computers, 1 Apple MacBook Air) that I am certain have viruses and to get rid of the viruses, and
(b) Set up a new desktop computer in place of my existing desktop, and transfer all of the data files from the old to the new desktop.
I was told that a virus scan and removal of any viruses found was part of a “tune up” service that would optimize the performance of a laptop, and I was quoted a price of $343 for a “tune up” of all four laptops and setting up the new desktop as described. I thought the price reasonable and set up an appointment for the following Monday, Sept. 28.
The morning of Monday, Sept. 28 the technician scheduled for the service call called me before coming to my home and asked what work I wanted to have done. I expressed my disappointment that I had to repeat what I’d said the prior week but I did. The technician then told me that a virus scan would cost me an additional $150 per computer. I said that I am very unhappy being told that I have to pay $150 per laptop more than what I was quoted. He said that he’d speak with his supervisor. He called me back about five minutes later and said that he could do the virus scans for $75 additional per computer.
I told him that I wanted to speak to someone at Geek Squad, then I called 1-800 GEEK SQUAD. I spoke with a supervisor and explained the situation. The supervisor read off of the notes from when I set up the appointment, which notes said specifically “check for and remove malware.” However, the supervisor then told me that the price quoted to me did NOT include checking for and removing viruses because of an error in SKU coding.
I then told the supervisor that I am not going to pay an extra $150 per laptop (or even an extra $75 per laptop) over the price I was quoted, forget the work on the laptops, and I asked the cost of just setting up a new desktop computer in place of my existing desktop, and transferring the data files from the old to the new desktop. I was told that the cost would be $99.99 to set up the new desktop but there would be an additional $99.99 to transfer the data files, for a total of about $200.
I cancelled the entire service order.
I believe that I was outrageously misled on the cost to complete the work originally agreed with Geek Squad. Instead of $343, the total would have been $1,043 (the original $343 quoted plus $150 for each of the four laptops plus an additional $100 to transfer data files and software from the old desktop to the new desktop).

My phone was stolen on 8/4 called on 8/5 to use the insurance I purchased w/Geek Squad. The insurance I purchased didn't cover lost/stolen. Ok, I cancelled the plan on 8/5/16 and asked to be refunded the remainder amount since I pd for the 2 yrs up front w/a gift card from Best Buy. It is 8/30 and I'm still getting the run around about why I have not received my gift card yet. I call and I'm placed on hold only to be transferred at least 2x before I get a rep the last 3x I've called for status of my refund. Today, I called and a rep told me that my refund is going to take 2 billing cycles.. I said what 2 billing cycles.. It's obvious he didn't do his research or look at the previous notes on the account. I informed him I paid w/a gift card not a cc or debit card. I asked for a supervisor and was transferred to a line that just rings.. I called back and the same thing happened, I was transferred to a line that just rang after I asked not to be blind transferred. I also was told my refund would be for $113 today I was told $107 which is incorrect.
