We hired this GC to do renovations in our newly purchased home. Prior to his workers starting, brand new carpet was installed on the 2nd floor of our home. During the 3 months that they worked in our home, the carpet was never protected properly, and subsequently was destroyed with grease marks, paint, spackle, and an enormous amount of dust from a whole house renovation. When I approached the GC about it, he assured me that he would have the carpets professionally cleaned to look brand new. I told him that they were pretty damaged, and I didn't think that they could get them cleaned. He told me in the presence of my husband, that if they could not get the carpet cleaned, he would replace it. I accepted him at his word. After the renovation was done, he hired a professional steam cleaner to clean the carpets. As suspected, the deep grease marks permanently stained, and when I vacuumed, the whole canister was filled with dust. I called the GC and told him that it didn't come clean, and we would need them replaced. I didn't want anything different than what was previously installed. He told me, 'I am not buying you new carpet'. I explained to him that I have histoplasmosis in my lungs, which is a breathing condition, and I can't have all that dust in the carpet, PLUS the stains never came out of the light grey carpet. His workers were at fault for not properly laying protective paper down, and he should hold to his word for replacing the carpet. I have pictures of before and after for evidence. We payed him in full of $90k plus. I'm not asking for anything other than having my property, of which his workers destroyed, replaced. Nothing more, nothing less. Thank you.
