Request that we be contacted about charges BEFORE work be done and were told they would. They called at 9:47PM to say over $300 in labor.On 6/6/14 we purchased a Clarion radio from Gene's Audio of Havelock at a cost of $588.17 with installation. Two months later the sub woofers in the car stopped working after touching the screen to change speaker set up. A couple of weeks went by and the radio stopped working at all! Returned for checks at Gene's with a 10:30 AM appointment on 8/25/14. At 2:30 PM they had not gotten to the car (and radio) yet. At 9:40 PM they called to say that the car's wiring was the issue (not the radio) and that the labor charges would be over $300. When asked why they did not call, we were told they had been too busy working on the car's wiring.Desired SettlementWould like the radio downgraded and credit for first purchase given (fairly). Labor cost of $300 that was not approved should be eliminated or greatly reduced by at least 80%.Business Response /[redacted]/Business called to say the complaint is resolved, the car was picked up. Price was reduced. Customer was happy.Consumer Response /[redacted]/Customer was not and is not happy and Gene, the owner, knows it. Business did reduce price by only one hour of time; however, did not get customer okay to perform extensive labor and charged for three hours (customer protection act ignored). The business wanted more money to change radio to lower cost unit. Car would not be released to customer without payment. CUSTOMER BEWARE. I would seek civil action if the cost had reached $350 for the labor. The radio still has issues!Final Business Response /[redacted]/Business states that consumer is happy per conversation yesterday. Customer's wife is not as happy, but customer states issue is resolved.Final Consumer Response /[redacted]/(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)Business did update to newer version of same radio for free; however, did end up costing over $800 for radio, unauthorized repairs and several return trips! Case may be closed, but future buyers beware! I will not be returning to this business!
