Much of our work is for the state and those with little or no resources to exist in a safe environment. Our services are impactful and life changing and personally rewarding. The payments, however, are not timely or consistent and quite often I have to stretch a budget to complete a project. Even...

more often is the underlying conditions when a demo is done on a job and unforeseen conditions arise. There is always a hidden cost and usually it’s a financial burden that cannot be borne by the participant. I have invested much of my own time and money to make up those gaps to insure the job is completed. It is not right for the complainant to state that we took money from any one. As the complainant wrote, she held monies back. I asked the director of the program about that and was told she should not have done that. It’s hard enough trying to operate with an unpredictable operational cash flow without a client withholding funds as well. As stated above, we often come up against unforeseen conditions which cause us to have to reschedule projects. These programs are long tedious processes and everyone who gets involved understands that. It’s unfortunate that the contractor is the final target of someone’s frustration and easily lashed out against in a forum such as this. We have only worked deliberate and committedly to our clients and strive to operate in as professional a manner as possible. We have returned the deposit.

Review: My disabled son received a grant from the State of [redacted] for a handicapped bathroom modification. This company was one of 5 bids that was submitted to the state for this conversion. I was advised that the state accepted Genesis Creations bid and I was sent a check for $9240.00 which was 60% of job total. I contacted [redacted] at Genesis Creations in early November 2014 to advise him I had received the deposit check and was seeking a start date for the project. [redacted] asked that I mail the check to him and he figured he would be able to start the job in a week or two. I decided to send a $5000.00 deposit as I was uncomfortable sending the entire $9240. The check was cashed on November [redacted], 2014. I was never contacted with an exact start date. Multiple telephone messages were left and one letter was sent by me requesting a call back with an update. I finally heard back from [redacted] in January 2015 when I called the state to complain that I was not hearing from this company. I was given a start date of January [redacted]. When I did not hear from [redacted] on January [redacted], I called him again and I was told start date would be in the next week or two. We also had arranged to meet at his showroom to pick out tile (that appointment was cancelled due to snow storm). [redacted] was called twice by me again after the snow storm as I was once again seeking a start date. My calls were not returned. The state was called by me again approximately 3 weeks ago to advise I was not hearing anything back. They made contact with this company and [redacted] advised the state he would contact me. I have not heard back from him. [redacted] took $5,000 from my handicapped child 3 months ago and clearly has no intention of doing this modification.Desired Settlement: Return of $5,000.00 deposit that was cashed by him on 11/**/14. I am seeking to hire a new company to renovate bathroom.
