Review: I was a member of Genesis Personal Fitness (the actual gym is in [redacted], PA, [redacted] is the business office) The monthly fees of $179 were taken out of my [redacted]. I filled out paperwork in the beginning of January 2014 to discontinue my membership, but neglected to ask for a copy. Some time after Feb. 3rd I checked my [redacted] bill and noticed that they paid Genesis $179. I called Genesis and spoke with [redacted] (The co-owner). She said she would look into it. After about a week, she called back and said that I did not give them the required 30 days notice of cancelation. I believed that I had signed the papers on 1/3, but since I did not have a copy, she said she would get a copy to check. After about a week, I tried calling to talk to [redacted] for several days. She would not return my phone calls. Eventually she sent me a copy of the form, and I discovered that I had submitted the form on 1/6 instead of 1/3, which was 28 days instead of 30. The place on the form where I had put the effective date to discontinue my membership (2/1/14) had been crossed out and 2/28/14 had been written in.
Not only would she not return my phone calls, nor do the honorable thing and refund the money, but she never told me that it was extended to 2/28/14, so I discontinued going to the gym as of 2/1. I did not know until I received a copy of the paper last week- on Feb. 27th.Desired Settlement: I would like the $179 returned to my credit card. Since I apparently only gave 28 days notice instead of 30, then I would be satisfied if they prorated the two days, and reimbursed me for the rest.
