I was given a gift certificate that says it is from the Cove of Lake Geneva and is for a free night stay in Belle Loft Suite. I had no understanding how the Cove's operations work and that these units are individually owned. The gift certificate gave a number to call to reserve the room and I called that number to reserve the room. The number wasn't answered and it was a home phone number answering machine. I did not leave a message and called the Cove and asked to speak with [redacted], because that was the name of the gift certificate. I informed her that I had a gift certificate that my old company gave me for a free night stay. She asked for the number on the card and I gave her that number and she reserved the room and asked me to bring the gift card when I came. I brought the gift certificate on 3/2/13 and handed it to the front desk representative when we checked in. I signed a receipt that had a balance of $0.00. My card was suppose to be held for incidentals. On Monday the 4th I saw my card was charged for $204.43. I called on the 6th to dispute the charged and the lady told me that the wrong room was given to me and that I could not have the room that was given to me for free. I told the lady that I was given that room by their staff and that I had no idea that my certificate was for 1 specific room and she accepted the gift card. The lady would not help me and said that I had to pay. I have formally filed a dispute with my credit card company but this is a bait and switch scam and they charged my card without authorization which I believe is illegal. I obtained the gift certificate from [redacted] and [redacted] and it has the certificate from the Cove of Lake Geneva.
