Gentlemen Movers Reviews (%countItem)

They were to be there at 9:15 am and arrived an hour later. They charged me for 7 hrs when only worked 5 hrs at 148 per hour. Left boxes in home.
My wife called to schedule moving services from Gentlemen Movers from the manager named "Sam". She received several estimates. When they arrived, they came late. I called the manager Sam and he said they were on their way. They came and worked for five hours and said it was $148 per hour. I was charged for seven when they worked 5 and were late. I told the mover in charge of the truck. He acknowledged this and said the office told him to charge for seven hours and to call on Monday and speak to the manager. They also asked to stop at a drive thru in the middle of working and I told them I'll give them $20 if they would please finish the job because I did not want to be charged for them taking a lunch. We emailed Sam and he made many excuses to why he charged us for 7 hours when they worked for 5 hours and were late. There was also furniture left in the garage and many boxes in the home left. My wife came home wondering what we paid for because the job was incomplete and emailed Sam S, General Manager, the next day with our concerns. He made excuses and still charged us for work that was incomplete. She emailed him and said to charge the 148 x 5 hours which came to 740 and only authorized him to do this and to shred the check her husband gave them incorrectly. He kept emailing her making many excuses to why the work was incomplete. When we checked our account he charged our bank account $1,022.42 on August 5, anyway. We feel this was not a correct amount considering the job was incomplete, they were late, and they worked a total of 5 hours instead of 7 hours.

Desired Outcome

Refund the correct amount which would be a refund to our card in the a amount of approximately $262.00 for doing an incomplete job, being late, and working 5 hours not 7.

In response to the ***'s complaints, the movers were admittedly late. The ***'s were told that the movers would be there between between 9:00 and 9:15. The guys arrived at 10:00, 45 minutes late. This was due to an unexpected maintenance issue at our facilities with some equipment. This was eventually explained to the *** and we apologized for the inconvenience.
In regards to the time discrepancy of 5.0 hrs verses 7.0 hrs alluded to by the ***, our drive time is included in our fee. The *** claimed to be unaware of this, despite the fact that every estimate that they received stated this, along with our location so they knew where we were coming from relative to their home. The labor portion of the move was 5.5 hours, not 5.0 hrs. The movers worked from 10:00 to 3:30. The round trip drive time was an hour and 20 minutes. Technically, this is usually rounded up to make an even hour and 30 minutes, as we bill in fifteen minute increments beginning at the five minute mark of the quarter hour, but the *** were only ultimately billed for the 1:15 amount of drive time for a total time of 6.75 hrs, not 7.00 hrs. Per protocol, the crew chief charged the *** for an even 7:00 hours, but I later agreed to round that down and not up, offering the slevins a refund of one quarter of an hour at the $148.50 per hour price, an amount of $37.12. I offered to issue this refund by check or credit card reimbursement.
The *** thought that when the movers stopped for lunch, that they were being charged for this time, which is incorrect. They were not. When our movers stop for breaks or meals, the clock stops and does not start again until they are back on the road. Mr *** told the guys that if they skipped their lunch break, he would give them $20.00. The movers in no way solicited or coerced this, but had it offered to them. Although the movers at that point were fatigued and in need of food, they agreed. The *** called this a quote, "bribe," but from our vantage point it was merely a financial incentive or tip for the guys to bypass a standard, unpaid break, which they were entitled to.
In terms of the items left upstairs at the ***'s house and in the garage, when our movers arrived at the download location of the storage unit, they asked Mr *** if he wanted them to return to the house and get the remaining items. This was verified by all three of our movers. Mr., seemingly very conscious of time, specifically instructed them not to, telling them that he would take care of the rest of the items with his own truck. When the guys were done, they tabulated the bill -correctly- and gave it to Mr ***.
The *** have accused our General Manager, Sam S, of quote, "making excuses," when in reality all he did was consistently and patiently rebut their complaints by stating clearly and consistently communicated protocols and facts.
It should be noted that the *** paid by check, but the check bounced, and so we charged the credit card we had on file for them. The amount charged was $1,022.42. This amount represents a total job time of 6.75 hours, times the three-man rate of $148.50 an hour, plus a two percent credit card processing fee.
We have nothing further to add to this matter, and as far as we are concerned, it is concluded.

The movers were late and Sam, the manager told us because they supposedly got gas not because of an issue. The truck was large enough to fit everything in it so everything could have fit the first time. They wanted to charge more and run the clock to get more money. We were never informed of a lunch break when they were hired and they could have taken one after they completed the job. My husband never told them the the lunch was a tip. Also, the address says they are coming from Lexington on their website then he said after, they came from Farrow Road, all the way across town. The check we provided did not "bounce" there was a stop payment due to the improper charges. Whoever wrote the response to the Revdex.com is telling a different story to the Revdex.com than what was told to us. As I stated before, a lot of excuses were made regarding every concern or complaint to get away with ripping honest people off. We would never recommend them to anyone. We still believe we are entitled to the difference of the refund as stated before and are extremely dissatisfied with their service. Moving is stressful enough, then to deal with dishonest business practices makes it even harder.

This company was hired to move our belongings from prior house to newly purchased house. Item after item was brought in damaged, with little concern from crew. When calling office, we were told to take pictures and not to worry - all would be taken care of. Presented with the bill, we refused to sign for payment until resolved. Owner and manager would not come out to observe as asked, and charged credit card without permission. "Repairman" came out to observe, wiped one dresser with steel wool, and owner called and said he beleived his crew and would not repair items. Has not called, repaired furniture, or refunded money paid for move

Gentlemen Movers Response • May 19, 2020

We moved the ***'s on March 25th and March 27th. After the download of the 27th, the ***'s called to report damages to multiple pieces of furniture. We had them take pictures and send them to us. Our movers said the ***'s did not note any damages immediately after the download. Upon seeing the photos of the reported damages, our movers claimed they did not cause the damages in question.
Due to scheduling, our owner and general manager could not make a meeting with the ***'s. Instead, we sent a trusted, highly regarded furniture repairmen to meet with them and inspect the damages. It should be noted that his Gentlemen is hired on occasion to perform damage repairs for us and is not directly in our employ. Upon inspecting the damages, he said they were minimal damages of a non-structural nature and were purely of a cosmetic variety. Most significantly, however, he said the damages in his opinion appeared to predate the move. Additionally, he said the ***'s treated him in such an antagonistic manner while he was there that he was not comfortable returning if called upon to do so.
In terms of charging the ***'s without authorization, the moving service agreement presented to all customers at the beginning of their move states that it is our policy to receive payment before settling any potential damage claims. It also states that payment is due immediately after services are rendered. Therefore, an implicit authorization to charge the ***'s card existed for the services.

I will not waste time arguing
The facts: This business is not Revdex.com accredited as it claims and has posted on their website - misleading.

The first complaint was on April 25th, not the 27th, when the crew ripped the magnet out of our sleep number bed, that was not repaired properly and ripped again when they brought it on the 27th.

The repairman was pleasant, and he said that an insurance claim was probably going to be filed per Robert. We talked twice and there was never an indication of discomfort.

We specifically requested that a manager or the owner come out to our house. We were available any time of day - unprofessional to have someone who doesn't even work for your company to assess damages.

We hope that others will be forewarned and choose a company that values their customers

Leather furniture purchased in June 2018 and new mattress ripped. Owner refused to make things right and accused me of trying to scam him.
Hired these movers to move all furniture on 10/7/19 and store until 10/16/19. Sam W was very professional and nice until the 2 set of movers returned with the furniture on the 16th. I instantly noticed that my sofa that has black leather trim at bottom had a rip at the base when the movers brought it to the ramp. I notified Sam while the movers were bringing it in that I saw a rip in the leather that was not there. I also pointed out that there were several dings in my walls from the first set of movers who moved the furniture out. The return movers could not get my glass table back into my condo and had to take it apart stating that they do not know how the first set of movers even got it out without taking it apart. Upon inspection, I noticed about 2 more rips in other leather dressers and bed in the bedroom, a brand new mattress and a hole in it about 2x2 inches in diameter, another 1 month old wood dresser had several dings on it which I took a marker and cover up . I sent pics. My furniture was purchased in June 2019. Assembled in the condo and had not been removed at all. The mattress was purchased within past few months and also had not been removed from my house. Went back and forth with Sam and he basically said my furniture (which he has never seen outside of pics) looked to be worn and accused me of trying to pull something over on him. I did ask him to visit the condo prior to the move and after which he refused and was unconcerned after he charged my credit card for the move.

Desired Outcome

Replacement costs for the mattress and leather furniture

We moved Ms *** out of her condo on on October 7, 2019 and moved her back in one week later on October 14, 2019. We moved her out because she was having extensive floor renovations done, to include having the flooring ripped out and replaced all the way to the sub flooring. Due to fact that there were so many subcontractors in and out of the apartment, we have no way of knowing that the dings in the walls were created by our guys. Additionally, we currently have an exceptional group of movers on staff, and it is HIGHLY unusual for them to incur multiple damages to both walls and furniture during a single move, particularly one as small as Ms ***'s. Also, contrary to our normal policy, We did not charge Ms *** for any overnight storage, a savings to her of $450.00. This is a substantial savings, seeing as how her entire move was only $765.76. Addtionally, contrary to her statement, we didn't charge her credit card without authorization. Payment is due after services are rendered, and since she did not pay with cash or check, we charged her using the credit card that she put on file with us.

I have filed a claim against his insurance company. I just find his practices unethical. I invited him to look at my situation prior to the move and he refused. I also invited after same response. As he stated there was several contractors. Only one working on floor not subject to wall damages as high as these dings were.

Gentlemen Movers Response • Nov 13, 2019

There is nothing unethical about our practices. There was absolutely no need to view the client's home before the move. The only reason we view a home in advance is to determine the appropriate amount of resources, both human and material, required for the job. This was not necessary in this case, as is evidenced by the fact that there were no issues either with the manpower or the truck we sent. Both were sufficient.

We hired Gentlemen Movers to do an interstate move. The first sign that there could be trouble was that there was no written contract. The owner was polite over the phone, but that's where the professionalism ended. When the workers arrived, after smoking for a while in our front yard, they put exactly three items in the truck before bringing them back and informing us they were leaving. They said they were called to do another job and to call the owner for more information. I did so and the owner had the audacity to claim his workers said our house was "unsanitary," which was a blatant lie. The moral of the story is always sign a contract with a mover. Otherwise you could end up high and dry on your move date with no recourse.

From our perspective, this was a very unfortunate incident. The move for the H's was a very large move, and we were looking forward to providing their moving services. The H's were not interested in a full packing job, only moving services. Our owner, Robert Marye, provided the initial onsite estimate. Upon doing so, he encountered what he described as a "hoarding situation," which entailed compromised access to furniture due to an overabundance of various household items. Additionally, there was pet excrement all over the garage, which was intended to be one of the primary venues for removing the furniture from the home. Mr. Marye informed the H's that while we were willing to do the move, a significant amount of cleaning and packing would need to be done prior to moving day in order for us to provide services. When the day of the move arrived, our movers encountered a situation that, while improved, was still very similar to the one Mr. Marye encountered weeks earlier. The unsanitary conditions mentioned earlier regarding the proliferation of pet excrement still existed, especially in the garage. Inside the house, the packing had not been completed. One of our men said he had to, quote, "dig through a pile of stuff just to get to a piece of furniture." We are in the business of moving, not extreme cleaning. When we deem conditions to be unsafe due to compromised access and unsanitary conditions, we remove ourselves from the job. We had five to six men onsite that day. These men work day in and day out in a myriad of different contexts and circumstances. To the man, they each said that this residence was not sanitary or adequately prepared for moving. Hence, we recused ourselves from the job. In terms of a contract, the client is provided a Moving Services Agreement the day of the job, but since the job ended very shortly after our arrival and didn't take place, none was given. Also, in terms of our men having to leave to do another job, this is incorrect. The men assigned to the H's job were assigned to them for the entirety of the day and had no other commitments. Again, we did not want this move to conclude this way, and in fact, should the conditions in the home improve, would still be willing to do the job.

General Manager, Gentlemen Movers

We had bad experience with this company in the fall of 2017. The job supervisor was incompetent which resulted in two pieces of furniture getting damaged. The owner of the company took no responsibility for his employee and refused to take care of the repairs of the furniture. We will not use them again and I do not recommend them.

Gentlemen Movers received and delivered a furniture order for me on Friday. I was completely impressed with their communication and the thoroughness through the completion of the job. Hannah in the office kept me in the loop every step of the way and the owner of the company himself came to assist his well mannered employee with the delivery. No matter if you're relocating to a different state, across town, or just need someone to help move things around your house, this company is affordable and knows what they are doing. Thanks Gentlemen Movers for making this experience smooth and seamless.

We've used them many times in the last few years- from big moves to just single items we needed moved. They're professional, polite and quick!
