Complaint Case #XXXXXXXX
Insignia Kitchen and Bath is proud to have served thousands of
customers, in a highly satisfactory manner, throughout the greater Chicagoland areaIn regards to the homeowner:
The first contact with the clients was on October 1, A visit to their home with the Designer and the previous manager took placeThe intention was to work our a scope of work and help the client figure a budget for the overall projectThe Designer and the manager spent an hour or more at the house discussing the project and measuring the spaces discussed
The first budgeting meeting was held in February of A budget of $179,to $197,was presented which included remodeling the entire first floor of the homeFloor plans and drawings were done at that time to determine potential lay out possibilities and budgets associatedAt that time, a retainer was requested to continue to develop the plan and move forward with the workThe designer spent several hours coming up with a plan to start and the design assistant spent several hours drawing the plan to be able to present at the next meetingThere was at least hours spent between designer and other staff to perform all this work
The homeowner did not choose to sign the retainer at that meeting and no further development was done on the projectDesigner efforts to get in touch with the homeowner went unanswered
Fast forward to the fall of The customer contacted the designer again and started the conversation to remodel the home based on reducing the budget and keeping the scope of work and costs downThe retainer was executed on October 28, for $5,and a budget was established between $115,and $135,
The designer visited the home, again, with the contractor and Insignia's project manager to discuss structural issues that were impacting the design and the priceThe cost for the remodel/design that the homeowner wanted was severely impacted by these structural issuesThat meeting was at least hours long for all three of our people, plus the drive time
The designer and Insignia's project manager arranged for a structural engineer to go to the home to assess the issues surrounding the homeowner's wishes and provide assurance of what could and could not be done in regards to moving or removing structural wallsThat cost was $out of Insignia's pocketWe have not charged the homeowner for the work done by the structural engineer
The designer also scheduled time with the homeowner at the Subzero/Wolf showroom at the Merchandise martShe met the homeowners at the showroom and arranged a full tour of the showroom to help them select appliances for their remodelThis was actually done twice to better aid the homeowner in their selection processThe hours spent in driving from Barrington to the city and back, plus the time spent at the showroom amount to a total of hours for the two visits to the mart
As for drawings - several iterations of drawings have been done and reviewed by the homeownerFull sets of plans were drawn up for reviewAfter review, and at the homeowner's request, further work was needed to change the scope of the project and reduce the price
Several appointments and meetings were cancelled by the homeowner just minutes before they were scheduledOther meetings went completely unattended by the homeowner without a phone call or explanationPhone calls went unreturned
The last appointment was set for a review of plans in the showroomThe homeowner called that morning to tell the designer that her father had fallen ill and was in the hospital and she would not be coming to the meeting
Out of respect for the homeowner, the designer waited days before reaching out to the homeowner againBut since then, all attempts at getting in touch have gone unanswered
There were conceptual floor plans provided to the homeowner back in when the first discussions were heldThese were for the entire first floor remodel, and were done without any retainer in placeThere were two additional floor plans done in and these were done when the scope of the project was reduced
An additional floor plan was done and was set to review on the day her father had taken illThat plan has gone un-reviewedThe scope of this plan was for a kitchen remodel only within the confines of the existing space and not removing any structural walls
There is 40+ hours of work that can be documented and has been done, not to mention the structural engineer costsThere were many meetings, many drawings presented, and out of pocket money spent in the effort to help the homeowners determine what work could be done for their ever changing budgetAt an hourly rate of $150/hour (which is low for interior designers in the Chicago market), the $that has been paid does not even come close to covering the costs we have incurred with this homeowner
In regards to the holes in the wall and the clean-up: We did poke (2) quarter sized holes in places to verify that there were heat ducts in the stud spacesThe homeowner approved and encouraged us to do soBoth holes were located behind picturesThe debris from these holes was cleaned up prior to our leaving the premisesThese holes would have been re-drywalled within the scope of the remodel project
The project manager did remove his shoes as he walked in, but there were several times that the homeowners told us not to worry about it and that they could keep their shoes on
With prior approval by the homeowners, the project manager removed a can light and stuck a camera up to see structureThe can light was replaced and all was cleaned up afterwards
The designer and project manager have no knowledge nor do they remember sending a man to their house on a SaturdayAdditionally, Insignia encourages it's clients to refuse to allow someone in their home if they show up without prior knowledge or if it's someone they don't know or don't recognizeThere is no reason for them to feel uncomfortable or pressured to let someone they don't know in their house until it can be verified what company they are with and why they are there
Both the designer and the project manager attended all the scheduled contractor meetings at the house, including the meeting with the structural engineer
It is also noted that our Design Retainer Agreement dated October 28, was signed by the homeowner which clearly states: "Should the client decide not to enter a purchase agreement for this project with Insignia Kitchen and Bath Design Group, Ltd., the retainer amount will constitute a design fee for consultation and the plans (if any) will remain the property of Insignia Kitchen and Bath Design Group, Ltd."
In conclusion, the time and money spent by many people at Insignia is not covered in the $5,fee that was paid by the homeownerThe $5,is retained per the Design Retainer Agreement and the project is closed
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/05/07) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Your previous manager never came to my houseI met with designer and manager in your showroom on a later date
You are mistakenThe design had problems and designer was over budgetThe "quote" you are referring to, but failed to mention, was without $40K in appliancesAgain, over and over designer told us she could work within any budget and we believed herIt was simply not true
and First of all, designer contacted ME after we declined the first timeI did not contact herYes, we decided to try again with a lower budget, but even then designer was unable to deliver within the budgetOur first *** experience was in Glendale Heights, the second time I was considering the *** steam oven*** told designer that only people that had purchased the steam oven could go to this demonstrationWe declined and designer told us we could go with her as a guestShe had bought a steam oven and SHE wanted to goWe declined again, but she insisted, so we went to the Chicago showroomDesigner took train, we drove and paid for parkingAt that demonstration, designer gave us a quote, in the *** showroom, that again was way over budgetAs she handed us the quote and said how far off budget she was and the quote did not include a list of necessary things, Example: undercabinet lighting
4, 5, 12, 13, This was a disasterI don't believe these people charged you to give a quoteThese two men went in and out of my attic, made a huge mess! They put holes in my wall and NO they did NOT clean the drywall dustI did! And one of your contractors made such a mess in my bathroom my wife made me clean itShe refused to do itAs far as a canister being looked at, no problem with it, no messDon't professional contractors wear coverings over their shoes when they going into a home?
Yes the drawings had problemsThe flow of the kitchen was never correct
and Yes the scheduling problemsThe designers scheduling was very unorganizedIt got to the point that I started texting her the day before to make sure we where still getting together at the time we had plannedWe found this out about her early on, but it didn't bother usWe just knew we had to double check everythingWe cancelled last minute when my wife's father had emergency surgeryI think bringing up that fact is really in poor tasteI'm very sorry this was such a problem for YOU
Again, floor plans where done but the flow of the kitchen was never rightNEVERThe last design, within the existing walls I never saw because she was leaving the company
I did not hire Insignia under an hourly rate to do design workI would never do thatI had every intention to work with them, but they never pulled the project togetherIt even says on the Revdex.com site you have "free estimates"Simply not trueThe time I wasted is valuable to me as wellI took off work to meet with youAll the time you spent, I spent as wellThe difference you took $and delivered nothingMy budget never changed, what happened was your designer never paid attention to detail and again, kept saying she could work within our budgetShe had things so backwards, she said she'd fix it and come to my house with the same problemsExample: Hardwood floors came in at $12K, then all of a sudden it was $25KWhy? She never gave us an answer
This might jog your memory about the man that came by on a Saturday afternoonAgain, he can in, took picturesHe said designer sent himI called designer after the man left and her reaction was Oh yeah, he called you? I told her he just left and asked why he was sentInsignias project manager was working on her house, so she wanted to get a quote from this other man in case original project manager was not availableA few days later I asked designer what the price was on the other contractor, never had an answerWasted my Saturday afternoon
After all this, that's your answer? As a company it's OK to take money from potential customers and not give them a copy of designsI would have been a customer had Insignia ran a professional operationMy kitchen designs are your property that you have such a use forYou would rather keep them, than give them to me after I paid you $5,Insignia should remove "free quote" from Revdex.com website

Insignia you keep rewriting the same thing over and overDoes anyone read the previous letters? Again, the quote that I received for $142,was without lighting along with many other missing itemsYour designer even remarked how she couldn't believe how "off" she wasBut, you don't careYou got your $5,000, for no work completedThe project was removing a wall between kitchen and dining roomYour designer thought we should continue flooring into living area and that's how that wentI suspect you have no designs and basically have no idea what took place by your defensive and unprofessional attitudeIf I had looked up your company I would have found numerous dissatisfied peopleHowever, I saw the Revdex.com on your website and trusted thatLesson learned for meYou know what you are doing is deceivingI do not accept your responseI feel I should get something for $5,I gave you $5,for designs and a quoteWhere is it?

December 2, 2015Dear [redacted],We did assist [redacted] with the purchase of his vehicle on November 12, 2015. I don't understand his complaint, first of all we were on our way out of the office because we had closed and it was after our normal business hours. We re-opened to service [redacted]....

Attached is the breakdown of our standard charges that apply to all transactions of this nature. The Penndot fee is what is received and sent to the state. There were 3 notaries that are usually done with a title transfer and the state sets a notary fee at $5.00. License plates issued by us are a standard fee of $30.00. For the instant plate, registration sticker, and registration card that [redacted] walks out with the service fee is a pass thru fee forus also of $20.00, that goes to our software provider. The fee that we charge for our service which is in line with any other issuing agent in our area of $50.00 is for the most part what we get. [redacted] could go to a dealership an get charged 3 to 5 times what our fees are.So [redacted] is incorrect A of the charge went to us the rest went to the state and vendors and charges for materials. We are sorry for his misunderstanding of the charges attached but that again is our standard fee,If you require more information to this matter please let me know.Sincerely,Phil W.Office Manager

Complaint Case #XXXXXXXX

thousands of customers, in a highly satisfactory manner, throughout the greater Chicagoland area. In regards to the homeowner:
1. The first contact with the clients was on October 1, 2013. A visit to their home with the Designer and the previous manager took place. The intention was to work our a scope of work and help the client figure a budget for the overall project. The Designer and the manager spent an hour or more at the house discussing the project and measuring the spaces discussed.
2. The first budgeting meeting was held in February of 2014. A budget of $179,000 to $197,000 was presented which included remodeling the entire first floor of the home. Floor plans and drawings were done at that time to determine potential lay out possibilities and budgets associated. At that time, a retainer was requested to continue to develop the plan and move forward with the work. The designer spent several hours coming up with a plan to start and the design assistant spent several hours drawing the plan to be able to present at the next meeting. There was at least 15 hours spent between designer and other staff to perform all this work.
The homeowner did not choose to sign the retainer at that meeting and no further development was done on the project. Designer efforts to get in touch with the homeowner went unanswered.
3. Fast forward to the fall of 2014. The customer contacted the designer again and started the conversation to remodel the home based on reducing the budget and keeping the scope of work and costs down. The retainer was executed on October 28, 2014 for $5,000 and a budget was established between $115,000 and $135,000.
4. The designer visited the home, again, with the contractor and Insignia's project manager to discuss structural issues that were impacting the design and the price. The cost for the remodel/design that the homeowner wanted was severely impacted by these structural issues. That meeting was at least 2 hours long for all three of our people, plus the drive time.

That cost was $450.00 out of Insignia's pocket. We have not charged the homeowner for the work done by the structural engineer.

Insignia you keep rewriting the same thing over and over. Does anyone read the previous letters? Again, the quote that I received for $142,000 was without lighting along with many other missing items. Your designer even remarked how she couldn't believe how "off" she was. But, you don't care. Your designer thought we should continue flooring into living area and that's how that went. I suspect you have no designs and basically have no idea what took place by your defensive and unprofessional attitude. If I had looked up your company I would have found numerous dissatisfied people. However, I saw the Revdex.com on your website and trusted that. Lesson learned for me. You know what you are doing is deceiving. I do not accept your response. I feel I should get something for $5,000. I gave you $5,000. for 2 designs and a quote. Where is it?
