I filed a complaint against contractor Joe George/George Electric on July 8, in small claims court for defective plumbing and ceiling installation in the sum of $This work was done on a newly purchase cottage located at Lakeview Road, Union City PA Joe George assured me he was licensed as a general contractor under his Electric contractor license; however, he avoided showing me the document/s with many excuses I made multiple requests to see his contractor license; Joe Grepeatedly assured me he had one and that he would bring it for me to see however all he provided was multiple excuses with the promise to bring it next time Neither I nor the Office of Consumer Protection was able to confirm a license under any licensing agency
The court awarded me a partial judgment in the amount of $which included my filing fee While it was favorable for me to be awarded something the amount did not mitigate the degree of my loss/damage; it did not make me whole I provided overwhelming evidence in the form of pictures, verbal detail with dates, times, receipts, payments and estimates etcof his dreadful work Joe Gprovided nothing except character assignation and feeble opinion I was baffled by the judgment and visited the court in hopes of learning the rational for this finding from the magistrate; however, I discovered this was not an acceptable request It is for this reason I am filing a complaint for his deception of holding a contractor license, as well as to create a record to protect others In addition, it seems our court system is working against the very people it is designed to protect leaving the offender free to harm others with minimal or no consequence
I hired Joe George to repair foundation work which later extended to include remodeling the interior as shown in the individual estimates and verbal detail (example A-1) **Important note: Joe Gestimates are for labor Joe Gassured me he would be doing the work with carpenter helpers and showed me work in his own home as an example of his skill As the work progressed Joe Gbecame absent and had his stepson and brother doing all the work, unsupervised I asked him to complete each phase of the remodel before beginning the next e.gplumbing, electric, drywall work, etc The work was sloppy and careless; I told Joe Gthis in person and in a follletter dated July 19, (example C) He became enraged and verbally abusive, threatening and using fowl language He complained he under-estimated the job saying “I don’t intend to put another dime into finishing this job.” His hostility concerned me so I paid him a final cash payment of $from a cashed check annotated as (cottage road; to differentiate in our records from our other cottage which we were preparing for sale and located on a “drive” example A) This check corresponds to the note given to Joe Gdated 6/16/(example B) It was at this point I mailed the above mentioned letter terminating our relationship (example C) After that I discovered functional defects with the plumbing 8/and contacted a licensed plumber The defects involved the tub/shower plumbing i.emixing valve damaged on installation so water could not mix to warm and installed incorrectly, a cheap plastic replacement spout was installed which was not a part of the Moen device I provided and this caused water to overflow the tub edge, both vanity sinks were leaking and the dishwasher was hooked up to a cold water line instead of a hot water line I had the repairs done which involved removing cabinets, counter tops and drywall demolition (example D) As a result of financial constraints from being on a fixed retirement income, my husband and I repaired what we were able along with contractors for work requiring a qualified professional This continued into the spring and summer of extending into and
In the spring of I returned to the lake to find the ceiling collapsing and sagging throughout the cottage (example E) The replacement tiles I purchased, which his brother installed are the same type, size and installation style as were originally installed over years ago The pictures (example E) show the tiles were not correctly installed in the manor that was explained to me by Joe G He explained the tiles would be installed with staples and glue However the wrong size staple was used and not properly anchored and there was no glue used per his information and the directions he provided me The old tiles were in intact however they had discolored with time over their year life Ceiling repair estimate $(example F)
In conclusion: I filed this claim on July 8, for the plumbing and ceiling to avoid making multiple claims with a request for the amount of those repairs and supplies I presented my case to the court in detail with all the documents included here Joe Gsdefense was verbal denial, unrelated accusations and character assignation Joe Gclaimed he had evidence but refused to submit any of the documents at my request saying “In the next hearing!” The court did not admonish him for making unsubstantiated claims and slurs or direct him to produce the documents I requested to see
There is an expectation that the magistrate will consider the a lawsuit and base their ruling on solid evidence when adjudicating a case rather than putting the burden back on the injured party requiring them to navigate the complicated appeal process at additional expense with little hope of a successful resolution I turned to the courts for justice and financial compensation for a part of my loss in the amount of $ In the face of my solid evidence the court failed to protect me; the ruling was not a sound finding For this reason I am filing this complaint in hopes of protecting others from this kind of abuse and expense This case represents only a part of the damage Joe Gcommitted against me which are seen in the pictures I provided here and in the court
